Dad kills mom, grandmother; daughter forced to call 911 (Bakersfield, California)

Dad ROBERT DALE FULLER is charged with two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of his "estranged" wife and her mother. Their young daughter, age not given, was forced into doing the 911 call. Like many of these cases, the mother had a restraining order, but it didn't do her a whit of good. Yet another case where the authorities basically allowed this woman's murder to proceed with no interference.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- It's been nearly a year since two women were shot to death -- after a long history of domestic violence and harassment.

Loved ones gathered Monday night to honor the memories of Suzan Annette Sowders and her mother, Sharon Sue Cannon.

Family and friends gathered in Oildale off of Plymouth Avenue near Riverwalk Park.

On Aug. 8, 2009, a child dialed 911 and told them that her mother and grandmother had been shot at their home on the 200 block of South Plymouth Street.

Deputies said that the children said their father, 56-year-old Robert Dale Fuller, was the alleged shooter.

The kids told deputies that he had fled the area.

Fuller was later caught and arrested.

According to court documents, Sowders had a restraining order against her estranged husband with a laundry list of complaints.

Family friends said Robert kept violating the restraining order and kept harassing the family, court documents said.

Sowders married Fuller in 2001, but they went through domestic issues and legally separated last August.

Fuller was arrested at least three times on charges of violating a restraining orders issued against him before he was accused of killing Sowders.

Those who knew Sowders said the system failed her.

Fuller is charged with two counts of murder.

His trial is scheduled to begin on Friday.
