Hmm. Notice that there is no mention of the mother, just an (unidentified) "woman in the residence." Also notice the father's pattern of coercive control, in not letting the boy out of the house for several days.
The evidence strongly leans towards this being a single or custodial father. But as usually happens, the media is quite circumspect about reporting the custodial arrangements behind crimes against kids. Except when it's mom's boyfriend. Everybody likes to jump on those.
Dad is identified as JASON ROGER MOORE.

Man arraigned on allegations he beat his son with PVC pipe, sauce pan

A Laramie man pleaded not guilty Friday to a child abuse charge stemming from allegations he beat his son.
Jason Roger Moore, 36, was arrested after his son showed up at the Laramie Youth Crisis Center and said his father beat him with his hands, a section of black PVC pipe and a metal sauce pan, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
The son’s age was not given in court documents.
An Albany County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived at the Youth Crisis Center on Jan. 17 and saw “extensive bruising on the backs of both arms, upper back, right abdomen and right thigh” of the minor, according to the affidavit.
The deputy also noted a one-inch cut between the child’s eyes.
During questioning, the boy told the deputy his father beat him Jan. 15, according to the affidavit.
The boy told the deputy he could not get away from the residence or use a phone without his father noticing for a couple of days, according to the affidavit.
The deputy and a Sheriff’s Office corporal interviewed Moore on Jan. 17.
During questioning, Moore said the boy had taken cookies and other items from a room in the house without permission, according to the affidavit.
As a result, Moore said he struck the boy with his hands and hit him with a PVC pipe “across his arms and legs.”
A woman in the residence intervened and pulled Moore off the child, according to the affidavit.
Moore told officers “he couldn’t remember striking (the child) with a sauce pan, but agreed it was possible,” according to the affidavit.
On Jan. 18, officers interviewed the woman who was in the residence.
She stated Moore beat the boy “excessively with an unknown object” before she pulled him off, according to the affidavit.
Officers later searched the residence and found a metal sauce pan and a section of black PVC pipe, both of which were consistent with the boy’s description, according to the affidavit.
If convicted, Moore faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
He remains in custody on a $15,000 cash bond, and his trial is set for June 23.
