Dad in "custody battle" over 10-year-old son gets felony child abuse charges dropped, even though victim is undergoing surgery (Bay City, Michigan)

This has fathers' rights influence written all over it. Dad blames his arrest on his "custody battle" even though the boy was choked and had his head slammed against a wall. Does Dad want to say this never happened? So the medical findings are all fabricated too? And what about the "surgery for an unspecified reason"? That's all for show? And despite all of Daddy's lying bullsh**, the judge DROPS the felony child abuse charges.

Shame on Judge Timothy J. Kelly.

Notice that the "custody battle" is with what are no doubt some very worried and concerned grandparents. Interesting. What happened to this boy's mother? Just sort of "disappeared," eh? Or is she deceased? With a hothead like Daddy, you got to wonder what he did to her.

Dad is identified as TROY M. EDWARDS.

Child abuse charge dismissed against Essexville man accused of attacking son

BAY CITY, MI — An Essexville father is no longer facing a felony in connection with an assault police say he perpetrated against his 10-year-old son.

At a scheduled preliminary examination for 37-year-old Troy M. Edwards on Tuesday, Aug. 5, Bay County Assistant Prosecutor Jordan E. Case asked Bay County Chief District Judge Timothy J. Kelly to dismiss one count of third-degree child abuse. The charge is punishable by up to two years' incarceration.

Case said the alleged victim in the case is undergoing surgery for an unspecified reason and will be convalescing for some time. He said the case has already sustained numerous adjournments, and thus he moved for the felony to be dismissed.

Edwards, however, remains charged with a one-year misdemeanor count of domestic violence, second offense. Both charges stem from the same incident, which police say occurred Feb. 26 at a home in the 100 block of South Main Street.

On that day, police say Edwards grabbed his 10-year-old son by his shirt, which he ripped. He then grabbed the boy under his chin until the child started to choke, court records show.

Edwards proceeded to bang the boy's head against a wall and pushed him in his privates, police allege.

Court records indicate the boy received medical treatment and suffered a laceration to his left axilla (armpit), tenderness over his occipital scalp and soft tissue swelling and tenderness around his wrist.

Edwards is free on bond, a condition of which is that he have no contact with his son.

Edwards on Tuesday told the judge that he believes the charges are the result of a custody battle he's been having with his son's grandparents. He asked Kelly to expedite court matters and get his forthcoming trial over with so he could see his son again.

"We'll put it on the trial docket as soon as we can do it," Kelly assured him.

Edwards' trial date is pending.
