Can't help but wonder if this is a visitation case. It often is with fathers this young, who are typically unmarried with no previous commitment to the mother or the baby. Notice that there is no mention of a mother in the home. Dad is identified as TYLER S. SCHWING.

PAXTON — A one-month-old baby boy is in the custody of the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services today while his 20-year-old father faces allegations of child abuse.
Tyler S. Schwing, 20, of 335 E. State St., Paxton, was charged on Jan. 14 in Ford County Circuit Court with reckless conduct causing great bodily harm, endangering the life or health of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia. Schwing was arrested Jan. 11 as a result of an investigation by Paxton police into allegations of child abuse.
Police received a report on Jan. 11 that Schwing’s 30-day-old son had been physically abused from Jan. 10-11. The infant was taken to Gibson Area Hospital’s emergency room and later was transferred to Carle Foundation Hospital’s emergency room. The child had numerous broken ribs, fluid between his heart and lungs, and a broken left leg. The child was in Carle’s critical care unit before being upgraded to the pediatrics unit. He was released Jan. 20 to the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services.
Police said the investigation continues, and additional charges may be filed by the Ford County state’s attorney.
