KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) - A Kansas City father is accused of beating his 15-year-old daughter with his fists and a broken automotive fan belt.

The 47-year-old man, who couldn't speak any English, was arrested Wednesday. Child abuse charges have yet to be filed by the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office.

Officers were dispatched just before midnight on Wednesday to 1317 Highland Ave. on a disturbance call.

When officers arrived, they said they found the man sitting in the hallway and crying. His daughter was locked in the family bathroom.

He had called police, he said, because his daughter was out of control. According to a police report, the daughter became involved in a fight with her parents after she came home late and wouldn't say where she had been.

The disagreement escalated and involved the family driving around to find out where the daughter had been, according to the police report.

During the argument, the father allegedly ordered the girl's mother to bring him a belt. He allegedly slammed his daughter to the ground and struck the daughter 10 times with the belt, causing welts to her arms.

"He then began to punch her in the face multiple times. The victim tried to hold his hands to keep him from hitting her, but was unable to do so," according to the police report.

The father allegedly choked his daughter. According to the police report, he told the officers that he slapped his daughter in the face "four times."

The girl was found to have been battered but didn't seek medical attention. The belt was retrieved. Two witnesses, including the girl's mother, weren't immediately forthcoming with details, according to the police report.

Because the father was taken to jail, the girl was allowed to stay in the home with her mother.
