Trip to pick up son for visitation ends with dad arrested on assault, battery charges (Palm Beach, Florida)

Once again we see why sperm donors don't deserve visitation, especially when they are violent felons. No indication here whether this visitation trip was court-ordered or not. Or what the mother of this boy thought of this visitation arrangement with Thug Daddy. Nice omission....

Daddy is identified as CHRISTOPHER CALVERA,

Trip to pick up son ends with father arrested on assault, battery charges

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

As Christopher Calvera drove from his home in Sevierville, Tenn., to South Florida to pick up his son last month, he hoped to establish a better relationship with the child.

But while driving back to Tennessee, an argument with a woman who accompanied him on the trip landed Calvera in jail on assault and battery charges.

Calvera, 36, was in police custody Wednesday night after authorities alleged that he assaulted the woman while driving through Broward County and into Palm Beach County. He was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail after initially being located and arrested by authorities in Georgia.

In addition to aggravated battery and assault charges, police also alleged that Calvera left a young child abandoned in his van.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Calvera and the woman drove to Broward County to pick up Calvera’s son. The couple also had another child in the back seat.

On the night of March 16, the couple and the children were returning to Tennessee when an altercation began on Interstate 95 in Broward County.

Calvera allegedly hit the woman in the back of her head with a semi-automatic handgun. He then put the gun to her head and said he would kill her, the report said.

The woman, who is not identified in the report, told investigators that she was able to get the gun away and throw it out the window. The act infuriated Calvera, a convicted felon who worried he could face more jail time if police found the gun, according the arrest report. The report does not say whether police recovered the weapon.

Calvera’s son said that he did not want to go any further with the couple, so Calvera dropped him off with a relative, the report said. The woman said that Calvera then became even more upset.

As they continued to drive, the woman demanded to be let out of the van. When Calvera refused, she kicked out a passenger window in an attempt to escape, the report said.

Calvera exited the interstate and stopped on an unknown off ramp. The woman got out and tried to remove the other child from a car seat in the back. Calvera allegedly struck the woman repeatedly with his hands and then slammed the door on her arm.

He forced the woman to get back into the van and began to drive again. He stopped at a red light at Glades Road and State Road 7 in suburban Boca Raton and demanded the woman give him her money, the report said. The woman got out of the van through a sliding door.

She tried to reach for the car seat, but Calvera grabbed it and refused to let her take the child. As another car approached, Calvera drove away with the child still inside, the report said.

The woman asked the other driver for help, They called police, who issued an Amber Alert. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent found the van in a church parking lot near Yamato Road and U.S. 441. The child was still in his car seat.

Police searched the area but did not find Calvera.
