Dad pleads guilty to raping, impregnating teen daughter (Bryan, Texas)

Notice that UNNAMED DAD had a previous criminal history of violence, and that there is NO mention of a mother in this home. Was this a single custodial dad?

A 38-year-old Bryan man convicted of raping and impregnating his teenage daughter was sentenced Thursday to 37 years in prison.

In addition to pleading guilty to sexual assault of a child, the man -- whose name is being withheld to protect his victim's identity -- pleaded guilty to prohibited sexual conduct and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He received a 20-year sentence for the first charge and 37 years each for the latter two charges.

He also was sentenced to 20 years in prison for deadly conduct and was ordered to serve 180 days for each of the six misdemeanor charges to which he pleaded guilty: two counts of family violence, violation of a protective order, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana and driving with an invalid license.

The sentences will run concurrently, meaning they will be served at the same time. The man will not be eligible for parole until 2030 and will be required to register as a sex offender for life once he's released.

According to police reports, the rape occurred in 2009, when the man's daughter was 16.

She told authorities her father began sexually abusing her when she was 14. When asked who the father of her baby was, she said she didn't know, according to the police report.

The victim recalled for investigators a night when she'd received a text from her father instructing her to meet him in the living room because he wanted to have sex, the report states.

She told authorities her father was on top of her for a minute or two before it was over, according to police.

While being pressed by investigators, the father said his daughter had been "brainwashed" and "denied ever touching his daughter," the police report states.

A DNA test revealed that the victim's father also was the father of her baby, according to the report.

The man's aggravated assault and deadly conduct convictions stemmed from a 2007 incident in which he fired a gun at someone during an argument over a game of dominoes, then proceeded to puncture a man's car tires with a knife.

Prosecutor Kevin Capps said by offering a plea agreement, it prevented the rape victim from having to testify in public about the incident and ensured that the defendant would be locked up for a significant period.

"I'm glad this guy isn't going to be able to hurt anyone in this community for a long time," he said. "Nobody has control of what the parole board will do, but I hope they keep him in there every day of his sentence."
