Dad arrested for choking, slapping 6-year-old son (Crockett, Texas)

Is this a single dad? Is there a mother in this home? If there is, why were interviews set up with all four children but not the mom?

Dad is identified as TOMAS TREVINO.

CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) - An arrest affidavit stated that the 40-year-old Crockett man arrested earlier this week for injury to a child allegedly choked and slapped his 6-year-old son. In addition, the man reportedly also threw the boy onto a bed and made him sit on a stool for 50 hours.

Tomas Trevino was arrested earlier this week and charged with injury to a child, a first-degree felony. He is still being held in the Houston County Jail. His bond has been set at $30,000.

According to the arrest affidavit, the incident occurred on Oct. 28 at Trevino's residence in the 8400 block of State Highway 21 in Crockett.

A Crockett ISD teacher met with a Houston County Sheriff's Office deputy and told him that a male student told her that his dad had choked and slapped him. As the 6-year-old explained what happened, the boy allegedly made a "gagging sound," according to the affidavit.

In addition, the boy told his teacher that his father had made him sit on a stool for 50 hours, "and that he was cold because there was no heat."

The deputy then set up interviews with all four of Tomas Trevino's children at the Kalin Center, according to the affidavit.

The victim told the deputy that his father had slapped him in the face, knocking him to the ground, the affidavit stated. He also said that his father grabbed him around the throat with one hand and lifted him into the air until his feet came off the ground. Then Trevino allegedly threw his son onto a bed.

A sister of the victim backed up what he said to the HCSO deputy, according to the affidavit. She said, that her father is "always mean to (the victim), and she doesn't understand why." Trevino's daughter also told the deputy that her father had gotten angry because her brother had accidentally turned on the alarm clock radio. In addition, she said that after Trevino threw her brother onto the bed, he grabbed the boy under the armpit and "slammed him back on the metal stool he was sitting on."

According to the affidavit, the HCSO deputy observed bruising on the boy's neck and the right side of his face.
