Mom of murdered son speaks out; dad convicted of killing 2-year old during visitation (Charleston, South Carolina)

Our hearts go out to this mom, and to all the moms who have lost their children.

Earlier news reports state that the boy's father, convicted killer ROGER WILLIAMS, had been battling the mother over custody. The boy was murdered during the father's visitation.

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - It's been a heartbreaking couple of years for a North Charleston mother whose 2-year-old son was found dead in a cement-filled trash can.

A hot wheels box that was never opened, keys on a touch-and-teach turtle, and a pre-school report are all the little things Rodricus Williams' tiny hands will never touch again. The items now serve as a reminder of the life he lost.

"He was always a happy smiling person and just always singing," said Shaneka Washington, Rodricus Williams' mother.

"Even if he didn't know you, his favorite words were ‘I love you,'" added Washington.

Those are the words that this mother will never hear again from her son.

"Some days I still cry. Sometimes I find myself talking to myself, asking questions, not really getting an answer," said Washington.

Except for last Thursday. Washington said her prayers were answered when she found out Rodricus' father will be spending the rest of his life behind bars.

"Just to actually hear that he didn't get away with it, it was just a big relief," said Washington. She was in court during the trial, but was so emotional, she was unable to speak until now.

"I wanted to ask the dad, ‘Why? Why do something like that to your son?,' said Williams. "That first day when I was in there, my stomach just hurt so bad," she said.

Throughout the trial, Roger Williams showed no emotion, according to Washington. "His face never ever changed not one day," said Washington.

Washington says that Rodricus has a sister who is now seven and cannot understand what happened to her baby brother. She said, "sometimes we will go to the grocery store and she still grabs the items for him and I'll be like, ‘Who's that for?' And she said ‘it's for Rodricus when he comes back home,' and I'm like ‘What should I tell her?'"

Washington said that she sees her little boy's face everywhere she goes. "If I see an older guy, I'm like maybe he would have looked like that, I just see people and all I have is imagination, and that's scary, too," she said.

Rodricus died in 2010 and his father, Roger Williams, was charged is his death. After being on trial last week, Rodrius' father was sentenced to life in prison. Rodricus was first reported missing by his father and his now ex-girlfriend, Grace Trotman. Authorities later say they found out the duo covered up the two-year-old's death.
