Dad convicted of assault and battery after holding infant son hostage; why has mom lost custody? (Chesterfield, Virginia)

Read this carefully, because there is something bizarre here. Mom calls the police to report being assaulted by her husband. Police arrive, and Dad refuses to come out of the house. Holds infant son hostage in a police standoff. Lotsa popcorn and Daddy Drama bullsh**.

And now Mom no longer has custody? (i.e. "The child is now with other family members.")

Why? Is it now against the law to call the police when you're a mother being assaulted by your child's father? Sure seems like that's the case in Virginia. Notice that we are provided with NO OTHER EXPLANATION for WHY the child is now with "other family members." This is just supposed to make sense on its own?

Dad is identified as GREGORY KEITH MOORE.

Chesterfield Dad Convicted After Holding Son Hostage

CHESTERFIELD, VA— A Chesterfield father was found guilty of assault and battery after he barricaded himself inside a home and held his infant son hostage.

Gregory Keith Moore, 45, of Chesterfield, was convicted of assault and battery. Moore was sentenced to 12 months, with 10 months suspended.

The conviction came after an incident on July, 17. Police went to a home in the 3600 block of South Belmont Road to serve an arrest warrant around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17.

Moore refused to come out of the house, according to police. Moore's one-year-old son was in the home at the time. The standoff was treated as a hostage situation involving a child, police said.

A SWAT team and police talked with Moore for hours, but he refused to come out.

Around 3:30 a.m., Moore surrendered peacefully, police said.

The child is now with other family members. No one was injured during the incident. Police went to the home to serve an arrest warrant after a woman reported being assaulted by her husband.
