Sheriff’s deputies arrested James Stauffer, 35, resident of Anaheim after he fled the scene of an assault with a six-month-old infant.

Deputies from the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station responded to a reported domestic dispute in the 27700 block of Peninsula Drive, Lake Arrowhead on Thursday night shortly after 8:00 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Emergency Dispatch Center in Rialto received a call from the female victim stating that she and her boyfriend had been involved in a fight and was requesting the Sheriff’s Department. The caller also said that her boyfriend, identified as Stauffer, had been drinking, kicked her and left in their 2007 Chevrolet Silverado with their six-month-old baby.

While searching the area for Stauffer and the vehicle, deputies found him driving southbound on Highway 18 at Lake Gregory Drive.

When deputies stopped the vehicle, Stauffer was found to have been driving while intoxicated and reportedly started yelling and screaming at the deputies. After Stauffer was arrested, handcuffed and placed in the Sheriff’s vehicle, he reportedly started banging his head on the window. The infant was returned to the mother, uninjured.

Stauffer was arrested for violation of California Penal Code (PC) Section 273.5 (spousal abuse), PC 273a (a), (child endangering likely to cause injury or death), PC 22210 (possession of a blackjack or sap) and PC 3056 (a State of California Parole Violation warrant.) Bail for the other charges was set at $100,000 dollars. The parole violation is a non-bailable charge.

When the District Attorney’s Office reviewed the accumulated charges, complaints of violation of PC 243(e) (1), (Spousal abuse) PC 148(a) (1), (Delaying or resisting an officer in the performance of his duties and California Vehicle Code Section 23152(a) (driving while intoxicated) and 23152 (b), (person driving with a BA of more than 0.08%) were filed in the Superior Court against Stauffer.

At his arraignment on Monday, a not guilty plea was entered and a request for release on his Own Recognizance (OR) was denied. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for July 2 at 8:30 a.m.
