CLEVELAND, Ohio — The 18-year-old father of 3-month-old Anthony Christian Jr. is charged in the baby's death.
Anthony Christian, of Benham Avenue, is charged in Cleveland Municipal Court with child endangering. He was arraigned Friday and held on a $500,000 bond. The case is being sent to the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury for consideration of additional charges.
Anthony Christian Jr. was pronounced dead last Sunday at the Cleveland Clinic, after his 16-year-old mother awoke and found he was not breathing at their Benham home.
According to the police report, the mother alerted her 63-year-old grandmother, the baby's guardian, and she called 9-1-1. Paramedics took Anthony to the Clinic, where he was pronounced dead at 5:53 a.m.
Investigators interviewed the grandmother, mother and 18-year-old father at the hospital, then visited their East Side home and talked to the mother's 63-year-old grandfather and three cousins, ages 12, 6 and 5, who were all at the home when the infant stopped breathing.
Cuyahoga County Children & Family Services had monitored Anthony's mother's mother and her mother in the past, spokeswoman Mary Louise Madigan said.
The agency removed Anthony Jr.'s 8-month-old cousin from the home Tuesday, Madigan said.
