Father faces murder charge in girl's death

A Shreveport man was charged Thursday afternoon in connection with the death of his 23-month-old daughter.
Marquice McNeil, 37, of the 2000 block of Milam Street, was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of his daughter Aliyah West.
The child was found unconscious and unresponsive by fire department EMS crews about 6 p.m.
Wednesday at the home on Milam Street. West was taken to Willis Knighton Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
Police said there were no immediate, overt signs of foul play at the home, but the investigation and ongoing inquiry produced evidence leading to the arrest.
West is the fourth Shreveport-area child whose death resulted in murder charges being brought against a parent or other person in the last seven months.
Ja'Marsay Summerfield, was found dead in a storage closet adjacent to his family's home Oct. 21. Police arrested his mother's boyfriend Tristan Anderson, 26, charging him with first-degree murder. Charges against Anderson subsequently were dropped in December. Police have not made any new arrests in the case, and the Caddo coroner has not released a cause of death.
Denise Avery, 1, died Oct. 22. Police arrested her mother, Alasundria Avery, 19, charging her with the beating death of her daughter. Alasundria Avery, who faces a first-degree murder charge, remains in Caddo Correctional Center.
Roderius Lott, 1, died Feb. 16. An autopsy revealed the Mooretown infant, who had numerous bruises on his face and head, was smothered. Police charged his father, Rodricus Crawford, with first-degree murder.
