Dad with extensive history of DV charged with breaking arm of 3-month-old son (Indianapolis, Indiana)

Dad is identified as JOHN PARKS. No clueless neighbors for once, nobody praising this dude for what a "great guy" he is, or "loving dad." On the contrary, they aren't surprised at all....And why should they be, with this guy's history of assault and violence.

An Indianapolis man is behind bars after allegedly breaking his son's arm and then lying about it to hospital employees.

A three-month long investigation turned up more than a playful accident. It all started when 22-year-old John Parks and his 23-year-old girlfriend, April Thompson, brought their 3-month-old son, Elisha, to Community South Hospital in January.

"(They were) saying that he (Elisha) was favoring his left arm and that something had occurred while the father was playing with the child," said Sgt. Linda Thompson, IMPD Public Information Officer.

However, an x-ray showed Elisha had suffered a severe left bucket handle fracture -- not consistent with simply playing around.

"Hospital personnel determined the story did not match up with the child's injuries," Jackson continued.

The medical staff immediately contacted the Department of Child Services and IMPD and an investigation was launched. Three months later, Parks was arrested on felony battery charges.

His neighbors said they aren't surprised.

"I've heard arguing heavy. I heard her a couple of days ago or someone over there," said Michael Flowers, who lives across the street from Parks.

"I heard her screaming and being beaten on a car or something like that," he said.

And it's not Parks' first brush with the law.

Police records show in June of 2009, Parks was arrested for domestic battery after witnesses saw him, "yelling and grabbing Thompson around the neck area."

That same day, Parks was also charged with neglect of a dependent after he reportedly left his 9-month-old baby at his apartment alone.

When police arrived they found the child, "lying on the floor, completely naked, between the coffee table and the couch. The apartment was unlocked and there was no one inside."

Then, one month later, Thompson filed for a protective order against Parks after witnesses saw him become verbally abusive towards her. Police records state he "grabbed her neck and dragged her down the stairs into his car."

Parks is being held at the Marion County Jail on $40,000 surety.
