Dad indicted on 1st-degree murder charges in death of 2-month-old son (Bridgeton, New Jersey)

When my FR friends claim that mothers and fathers abuse "equally," they are referring to cases like this. Even though Daddy RONALD J. CUFF was the one who "allegedly" assaulted the baby and killed him--while daddy was "caring" for him, no less--Mom is getting nailed for endangerment or failure to protect. Even though she was apparently not present when Daddy was beating the sh** out of the baby!

In the cases where moms were the actual perpetrators of the violence, "absent" dads are virtually never charged with anything. Even when he knowingly dumped four children with a mentally ill/psychotic mother, RANDY YATES was never held responsible for any wrongdoing. Neither was custodial dad ADAM BAKER when he dumped his 10-year-old daughter with the new step, and then claimed he had no idea she had been abusing her. Why do we accept male excuses, but condemn moms? Even when moms are more likely to be threatened with violence or actually beaten if they contact the authorities or health care professionals? Even though moms on average are physically less able to intervene in an assault?

BRIDGETON, N.J. — A southern New Jersey father accused of fatally injuring his infant son last summer has been indicted on first-degree murder charges.

Nineteen-year-old Ronald Cuff Jr. of Vineland also faces an aggravated assault charge and two counts of child endangerment in the indictment recently handed up by a Cumberland County grand jury. The baby's mother, Melina A. Vega, was indicted on two counts of child endangerment.

Prosecutors say the charges stem from the death of the couple's 2-month-old son.

They say Cuff repeatedly shook the child while caring for him, and the boy's maternal grandmother took him to a hospital. The child died a week later.

Cuff remains jailed on $250,000 bail. He could not be reached for comment Sunday, and it was not known if he had retained a lawyer
