A two-month-old baby boy remained in intensive care in Huntsville Hospital following an alleged incident by the child's father Friday.

Scottsboro Lt. Scott Matthews said investigators received a call from the hospital and DHR regarding the child's condition Saturday morning.

Matthews said the baby showed signs of injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome. Shaken baby syndrome is a type of inflicted traumatic brain injury that happens when a baby is violently shaken. Shaking makes a baby's fragile brain bounce back and forth inside the skull causing bruising, swelling and bleeding, which can lead to permanent, severe brain damage or death.

Matthews said the baby was initially taken to Highlands Medical Center, then transported to Huntsville Hospital.

"Right now, we don't know the prognosis [of the baby]" said Matthews.

Matthews said an investigation led to the arrest of the baby's father, Casey Brandon Rose, 30 of Scottsboro, Saturday morning.

Rose was located at a residence on Worthington Street.

"He was brought in for questioning," said Matthews, "and placed under arrest."

Rose was later transferred to the Jackson County Jail, where he remained Monday on a $100,000 bond.
