A 32-year-old man under a court order to stay away from his 13-year-old daughter was arrested Tuesday on a charge of aggravated child abuse against the girl.
The girl and her 7-year-old brother said they fought with the 5-foot-7-inch, 180-pound man until he left their home.
The girl told investigators from the Gainesville Police Department her father had a pizza to share when he arrived at the home where she lives with her mother and two younger half brothers. The children’s mother was asleep in another room when the father arrived.
The girl said her father wanted to go see the mother and that when the girl told him not to disturb her, the man got physical.
The children said he told the younger brother to leave the room because things were going to get “aggressive,” according to a report by Officer Lorraine Fair.
The girl said she told her brothers to stay with her and then told her father she would respect him. The children said the man responded by throwing the girl on the couch and choking her so she could not breath or talk. The girl’s 7-year-old brother tried to intervene and was shoved into a table, but was able to run to his mother’s room.
The girl said her father punched her and then ran from the home.
The father was charged with aggravated child abuse, child abuse, and violating an injunction involving domestic violence. Court records show he also is facing a drug charge in another case.
He is not being named to avoid identifying the abuse victim.
