Dad accused of assaulting 4-month-old baby (Ellensburg, Washington)

Appears to be one of those cases where Daddy was babysitting and got "frustrated." The baby is now in intensive care, while UNNAMED DAD has been jailed on assault charges. No word about where Mom was. Another one of those cases where Mom had to work, while Daddy played at caretaking?

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

ELLENSBURG -- A 4-month-old baby is in intensive care in a Seattle hospital, and the father has been jailed on assault charges, police said Friday.

Capt. Dan Hansberry said the case began Thursday when firefighters and police were summoned to a report of an unconscious infant in the 1000 block of North Chamith Lane.

He said rescue personnel found the baby's 24-year-old father performing CPR on the child, who regained consciousness and was taken to the Kittitas Valley Community Hospital.

At the hospital, medical staff reported the baby had suffered an internal head injury commonly described as shaken-baby syndrome, Hansberry said.

The baby was subsequently transferred to Children's Hospital in Seattle, and was in stable condition Friday in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Hansberry said a detective went to the hospital and then returned to Ellensburg, conducting interviews and collecting evidence before arresting the father Friday morning.

The father was booked into the Kittitas County Corrections Center on suspicion of child assault and is being held on $250,000 bail. Prosecutors expect to make a charging decision Monday or Tuesday.

Hansberry said the father was the only adult in the home.
