Dad arrested following police stand-off (Baraboo, Wisconsin)

The media has the tendency to report crimes as being committed by random "men" when they are actually committed by men in some relationship to being fathers. This is one of those cases. KENNETH B. SLATON JR. was in a stand-off where he was threatening to knife any police officer who tried to enter his home. But this was AFTER his 16-year-old son contacted police for being abused in a "physical confrontation."

On May 22, 2011 at 8:40pm the Baraboo Police Department received a call from a juvenile male who reported his father had struck him in the eye. Upon officers arrival to the residence located on the 300 block of 8th street they contacted a 16-year-old male victim who stated his father was inside the residence and his father had struck the 16 year old in the eye during a physical confrontation. Officers approached the home and observed a male step outside of an exterior door and yell that he would stab any officers who entered the home. Two adult female relatives of the suspect were able to exit the residence and did confirm the male was in possession of a knife.

The male continued to yell that he would stab officers if approached. The Sauk County Emergency Response Team along with the Sauk County Crisis Negotiation Team were summoned. Contact was made with the male several times who refused to cooperate initially with requests to exit the residence. The male did continue the threats to stab officers.

Following approximately an hour and a half of negotiating, the male did exit the residence and was taken into custody by members of the Sauk County Emergency Response Team. No injuries were reported in the incident; however, the male was transported to St. Clare Hospital for an unrelated medical issue.

Taken into custody was KENNETH B. SLATON, JR, a 51 year old Baraboo man. Slaton has been referred to the Sauk County District Attorney’s office on charges of Child Abuse and Disorderly Conduct. Slaton is currently under guard at St. Clare Hospital for his unrelated medical condition.
