ELWOOD, Ind. — An Elwood father, Aaron M. McPhearson, 18, 2700 South “A” St., was arrested Thursday on child neglect and battery charges.

Indiana State Police Detective Tony Klettheimer (Pendleton District) received information on March 14, 2011 from Madison County Child Protection Services that a four-month old boy had been taken to Elwood Mercy Hospital in Elwood, Indiana.

While in the care of doctors at the hospital, it was determined the child suffered from a variety of injuries, and was flown to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, for treatment. Medical officials determined the child’s injuries were not consistent with an accident.

During the course of the investigation it was learned the child’s biological father, McPhearson, had physically injured the child.

Klettheimer turned the completed investigation and his findings over to the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office for their review.

An arrest warrant was issued from Madison Superior Court 1 Thursday preliminarily charging McPhearson with:

• Aggravated battery causing permanent disfigurement, a Class “B” felony

• Battery causing serious bodily injury in any victim less than 14-years old by a defendant at least 18-years old, a class “B” felony

• Neglect of a defendant causing serious bodily injury, a class “B” felony

McPhearson was arrested without incident by ISP Detective Klettheimer and ISP Senior Trooper Shawn Cosgrove, and taken to the Madison County Jail. He is being held on $100,000.00 cash bond.
