Dad charged in battery of infant son (Garden Prairie, Illinois)

Dad ANDREW GARZA has been jailed on aggravated battery charges for injuries sustained by his infant son. The baby was hospitalized with fractured ribs and a head injury. Mom has lost custody to CPS too--probably for "failure to protect" the baby from this aggressive thug.

Man Charged in Child Battery Case

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A 19-year-old man from Garden Prairie is facing an aggravated battery of a child charge.

Andrew Garza is currently being held in the Boone County jail on a no bond.

On January 31, police were notified that an infant child had been brought to SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford with serious injuries. The child, who had been brought to the hospital by the parents, had fractured ribs and a head injury. The child was later transported and admitted to Rockford Memorial Hospital.

The arrest of Garza came after a one week long investigation by Belvidere Police Detectives. Garza is the father of the child.

The investigation is on going and additional charges are possible. The child has since been released from the hospital and is currently in foster care.

A class X felony is punishable by six to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Members of the public are reminded that these are only charges and are not proof of the defendant’s guilt. Every defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the State’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
