Dad charged with torturing, abusing 3-year-old daughter (Celina, Ohio)

Dad NATHANIEL C. MADDOX now has a 15 count indictment against him for abusing and torturing his 3-year-old daughter. The child ended up in ICU as a result, with a severe head injury and various bruises and blisters all over her body. Notice that unspecified "family members" were the ones who found her in an unresponsive condition, and transported her to the hospital. No mention of a mom at all. Was there a mother in this home? If there was, she is suspiciously absent from any mention at all. Or is this a single dad? If so, what circumstances made him one? That is always a key question to ask in these abusive father cases.

INVISIBLE MOTHER ALERT.

Father Faces 15 Charges

CELINA — A father accused of abusing his toddler daughter so bad she had to be hospitalized in an intensive care unit appeared in court Friday afternoon.

A Mercer County grand jury this week handed down a 15-count indictment against Nathaniel C. Maddox, 26, including a slew of felony child endangering charges. The charges allege Maddox used corporal punishment, tortured and abused his 3-year-old daughter on dates ranging from Dec. 29-31 and Jan. 5 and 6.

Mercer County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Matt Fox requested Maddox be held on a $100,000 cash bond with no 10 percent provision. Maddox’s defense counsel, Dan Myers, requested a $50,000 bond with a 10 percent cash provision. Myers claimed given his client’s financial situation, he would be unable to post the $100,000 cash.

“He’s a lifelong resident of Mercer County,” Myers said. “I’ve talked to his aunt, who resides in Montezuma, and she indicates if he’s able to make bond and is released he’s got a place to stay with her.”

Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Ingraham granted Fox’s request and set the bond at $100,000 cash. However, the judge said he would consider modifying the bond at an arraignment hearing next week.

Maddox was arrested Jan. 7 after an investigation by the Celina Police Department. Mercer County Children’s Services contacted the department to report a suspected case of child abuse. The victim suffered from a head injury that had led to internal bleeding along with bruising and blisters on her lower body and extremities.

The child was transported to Mercer Health by family members after they found her to be nonresponsive. The child was later transported to Dayton’s Children’s Hospital, where she spent time in the ICU unit. Fox declined to release the current condition of the child to The Evening Leader.

Maddox — who was flanked by several law enforcement officials during his trip in and out of the courtroom — made his initial appearance in Celina Municipal Court Jan. 14 and was ordered held on a $500,000 bond. He is scheduled to enter a plea to the charges during an arraignment hearing at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
