Police took dad TEVISS TURNER into custody after he was seen in the middle of the street, "flinging a baby above his head." When ordered at gunpoint to put the baby down, Daddy refused, and started throwing the baby to the pavement. An officer eventually tackled Daddy and rescued the child, who had "minor" abrasions. According to the mother, Dad was mentally ill and hadn't taken his meds. One thing I've noticed: nearly all the cases involving parents and police standoffs--or parents throwing babies into the street--seem to involve fathers.

Indianapolis — A passerby called police Monday afternoon, saying a man was in the middle of 10th Street flinging a baby above his head.
Metro police had already been called to the home of the man's girlfriend, who told officers her boyfriend had taken the child and left. The man, identified as 25-year-old Teviss Turner, reportedly suffers from a mental illness and had refused to take his prescription medication.
An officer saw Turner swinging the baby and ordered him at gunpoint to put the baby down. According to police, Turner refused and instead began throwing the baby on the pavement causing concern for the baby and the potential for severe injuries.
The special deputy officer, who feared for the baby, put away her weapon and tackled Turner. Several other "good citizens" helped officers take the subject into custody without further incident.
The baby was taken to Riley Hospital in good condition. Police say the baby suffered only minor abrasions and is expected to make a full recovery.
