Dad COREY SNYDER ADMITS he threw his 4-month-old daughter in the air and then "dropped" her on her head. The baby died of a brain hemorrhage. But Daddy walks away with no consequences. Words fail...
Assuming this is even true--and that he didn't "deliberately" hurt her, that he's just a freaking moron--do you think a mother would be acquitted for this kind of "roughhousing?" If you read news accounts like this often enough, it's striking how often daddies get a "boys will be boys" pass on this sort of thing. And yet we're continually told that men are just as nurturing as women. Well, which is it?

Wash. father acquitted in baby's death

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A Thurston County Superior Court jury has acquitted a 21-year-old Olympia, Wash., man of manslaughter in his 4-month-old daughter's death last May. Corey Snyder told authorities he had been throwing little Kylie Marie Snyder in the air and catching her when he dropped the child on her head.
Defense lawyer Jeff Robinson of Seattle called the jury's Wednesday verdict appropriate. He says there was no evidence Snyder "had any clue he was putting his baby in danger of dying." Robinson says there also was no evidence presented at trial that the infant was ever the victim of child abuse.
The Thurston County prosecutor didn't charge Snyder until late August, about three months after the child's death at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The King County medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, saying it was caused by a brain hemorrhage and blunt-force injuries.
