YORK — A 29-year-old York man has been charged with felony child abuse and the case has been bound over to District Court.
According to court documents, the York Police Department received a call from a woman on Nov. 26, who said her 17-month-old son had severe bruising on his buttocks.
Officers responded to her call and confirmed in their report that the “entire buttocks region was bruised.”
The woman said the young boy, along with two siblings, had spent the prior evening with their father while she was at work. While officers were in the home, the boy’s three-year-old sister told them her father had hit the boy “with a stick,” and indicated it was on top of the television. Officers said they found a board on the TV stand, which the girl said was used on her young brother.
The boy was taken to York General Hospital for an examination where staff said the bruises “were not normal.”
The man in question was arrested — but he continues to deny that he hit the child. He said, rather, that it was the three-year-old girl who hit the young boy with the board. He told officers that when he discovered she was hitting the 17-month-old with the board, he took it away from her and put it on top of the refrigerator.
The defendant’s name is not being released in order to protect the identity of the children.
Bond was set at $10,000, 10 percent, with the stipulation that if the defendant is able to leave jail, he can have no contact with any of the children in question.
A court hearing in the matter has been set for Jan. 3.
