Sexually abused daughter urges judge to learn more about sexual abuse (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada)

We've posted on this case before. How UNNAMED DAD basically got a wrist tap for sexually abusing his daughter for three years--and this despite having a PREVIOUS record as a sexual predator. The now adult daughter would like to see judges held accountable for these decisions.

Saskatoon woman urges judges to learn more about sexual abuse

A victim of sexual abuse at the hands of her father wants judges to learn more about the trauma of such crimes because she says the verdict in her case sends pedophiles the wrong message.

Her father was sentenced months ago, but a Saskatoon woman sexually abused as a child is still angry.

"If all they know is corporate law, maybe they need to read a book before they prosecute crimes of sexual abuse," she added.

The woman was victimized between the ages of 10 to 13. Her father, who cannot be identified, pleaded guilty to incident assault. He was given 100 hours of community service and a conditional sentence, despite having a previous conviction on a similar charge involving a little girl at a swimming pool. He was also acquitted of charges relating to a second daughter.

"Try your luck. Your chances are pretty good of getting away with it," says the victim.

She wants judges to be held accountable for the decisions they make. She suggests a system within which victims of sexual abuse can follow up after they've been through the court system.

"It works in manufacturing, where they take the supervisors, a person from each line, they meet once a week, talk about what's working, what's not," she added.

She also wants judges to receive sensitively training on crimes of sexual abuse before they sentence people convicted of them.
