Pedo dad behind bars AGAIN (County Sligo, Ireland)

Pedophile dad JOSEPH MCCOLGAN has been sentenced to only 30 months in jail for his latest escapade, which involved child pornography. McColgan is a "frequent flyer" as it were, and has served prison time before for raping and abusing his children. Honestly, scum like this guy just needs to be drown in the gene pool. They are beyond rehabilitation.

A paedophile father who was given a record 238-year jail sentence for repeatedly raping his children - but was let out after nine years - was back behind bars yesterday.

But the judge who gave Irishman Joseph McColgan, 68, the fresh sentence voiced his fears that the 30-month term was not long enough.

Judge Graham Cottle told him: 'You are quite clearly a very dangerous man but the current state of legislation does not really allow me to give weight to that fact.

'You are a danger to children and upon your release, I very much hope that you are supervised to the highest possible level by the authorities.

'If that is not put in place then children will continue to to be at serious risk from you and your activities.

'The public expect someone like you to be locked up for a considerable time.'

McColgan, dubbed the Beast of Sligo, fled to England after he was released from jail in 2004 after serving just nine years of the concurrent sentence given to him in Ireland.

He was jailed for raping and abusing his children for two decades in his native County Sligo.

He repeatedly raped his children and battered them with his blackthorn stick until they bled.

McColghan fled to Exmouth, east Devon to start a new life as soon as he was freed from Dublin's Arbour Hill prison six years ago.

But earlier this year he was caught in possession of child pornography after he returned to Ireland without informing police.

The 68-year-old was arrested and charged with 17 counts relating to indecent photographs of children and one of not notifying police that he had returned to Ireland.

Yesterday McColghan appeared at Exeter Crown Court where he was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

He was jailed for 18 months for not notifying police of his trip to Ireland and 12 months consecutively for making indecent images of children.

He admitted a total of 18 charges when he appeared from the cells, having already spent 95 days on remand in jail.

Prosecutor Malcolm Galloway said: 'He is a highly dangerous man.'

McColgan should have told police if he was leaving the country for more than three days - but he went back to Ireland to 'visit a friend'.

When he returned, police searched a blue bag and found a memory card which contained images of children in sexual activity with adult males.

He had put those images on his laptop and transferred them onto his mobile phone.

Exeter Crown Court heard there were 51 images seized by police who searched his bag and then his flat in Exmouth.

After the case Det Constable Steve Harris said McColgan was an arrogant man who still could not accept his offending.

He said the 68-year-old even had a copy of the best-selling book written by his daughter about his abuse of her in which he had underlines passages he did not agree with of her account.

DC Harris said: 'He is an extremely dangerous man. The judge is completely right that he deserves longer in jail but that his hands are tied.'
