Greenfield police have arrested a 25-year-old man who they say beat his infant son.
Police said the baby, described as a couple of months old, was taken to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas about 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Police Chief Joe Grebmeier said the baby received injuries to his head and face.
On Thursday, Grebmeier said, police officers arrested Luis Enrique Tovar on suspicion of willfully harming and injuring the boy.
Greenfield police issued a be-on-the lookout for Tovar on Thursday.
A witness reported seeing Tovar about 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the area of the Mercardo Camp, a labor camp on Apple Avenue just west of Greenfield, the chief said.
Four hours later, he said, police received a tip that Tovar was hiding at an apartment complex on Franscioni Drive.
Tovar was arrested 15 minutes later, Grebmeier said.
The baby boy has been released from the hospital. The mother of the child is Tovar's girlfriend, police said.
