We posted on dad ANDY ROY GORECKI just recently. Now we find out this abusive father is also a CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER. Does anybody really think that somehow, a sex offender is just too nice of a guy to violently shake a 1-month-old infant son, leaving the baby with such severe brain injuries that he's on life support? Did the mom know about Dad's past when she started seeing him? Did she have even an inkling of his history when she decided it was okay to leave the baby in Daddy's "care"? I would think this would be obvious but it bears repeating: Folks with a history of violent felonies do not make good caretakers, especially of infants and young children. Is this too hard to understand?

Cedar City man accused of shaking infant son

CEDAR CITY — A convicted sex offender has been charged with shaking his infant son, inflicting injuries that have left the child on life support.
Andy Roy Gorecki, 25, was charged in 5th District Court with child abuse, a second-degree felony. The charge could be amended if Gorecki's son dies as a result of his injuries, said Cedar City Police Sgt. JR Robinson.
"It's an ugly deal," Robinson said.
Police were contacted Friday by the staff at Valley View Medical Center after the infant was brought to the hospital by his grandmother. The woman said that when she found the baby, he was not breathing. The 1-month-old was in Gorecki's care when he was injured, Robinson said.
"From the injuries, the medical specialists say this is an injury typical of shaken baby syndrome," the sergeant said.
The child was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center in critical condition. His prognosis is "not good," Robinson said.
Court records show that Gorecki pleaded guilty in 2006 to forcible sex abuse, a third-degree felony. Robinson said the charge stemmed from the sexual assault of a woman by Gorecki and two other men. Gorecki was also convicted in 2007 of attempted failure to register as a sex offender, a class A misdemeanor, according to court records.
Gorecki remains in the Iron County Jail. His preliminary hearing is slated for Dec. 30.
