A Lexington man charged with murder in the death of his 2-month-old daughter pleaded guilty Friday in Fayette Circuit Court.
Michael Lee Reed, 22, is accused of killing his daughter Brionna Brown in 2007. Police say Reed intentionally abused Brionna at Prall Place Apartments on Winnie Drive, causing head injuries.
Brionna died from her injuries March 27, 2007, at the University of Kentucky Hospital, according to Lexington police.
A preliminary report from the Fayette County coroner's office indicated the cause of death to be a brain injury.
Reed said in court Friday that he shook his daughter, which caused her injuries.
Prosecutors recommended a 20-year sentence for Reed. Fayette Circuit Judge Ernesto Scorsone scheduled Reed's sentencing for Jan. 28.
Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Andrea Mattingly Williams requested that the families of Reed and Brionna be escorted from the courtroom separately by sheriff's deputies to prevent confrontation between the families.
