Father jailed for sexually abusing his daughter
Friday, August 30, 2013
Leicester Mercury
By Suzy Gibson
A father who repeatedly sexually molested his daughter has been jailed for four years.
The abuse came to light after an anonymous phone call was made to the NSPCC two weeks ago.
.
Social workers visited the family home in the Braunstone area of Leicester and confirmed the abuse was taking place.
The father, in his late 40s, was immediately arrested and made a full confession, Leicester Crown Court was told yesterday .
He pleaded guilty to five counts of sexually assaulting his natural daughter, between the ages of 11 and 14.
Sentencing, Judge Michael Pert QC said: "You've admitted a catalogue of offences against your daughter.
"The one place in the world in which a young girl is entitled to feel safe is her home.
"The one person in the world she's to regard as the guardian of her safety, is her father.
"You've betrayed her trust, as a father, and rendered every room in her home, not as a place of safety, but as a place of abuse – and you did it for four years.
"You can have no idea what effect it's going to have on your daughter, for many years to come.
"I know, from sitting here and dealing with the cases that I do, the potential is always there for long-term damage to be caused to a young child by the destruction of the boundaries you've carried out in this case."
The judge imposed a sexual offences prevention order, banning the man from living in the same house of a child under 18, without social services approval.
The order also forbids unsupervised contact with any female under 16, without permission.
He will have to enlist on a sex offender's register when he is released.
The defendant, who is not being named to protect the victim's identity, has a 1996 conviction for indecently assaulting a nine-year-old girl, who was a friend of his daughter.
Neil Bannister, prosecuting, said the abuse of his daughter involved repeated sexual touching in various rooms of the house, including the lounge, kitchen and bedrooms, between August 2009 and July this year.
The bathroom had no lock and he would pull back the shower curtain to view her naked body.
If she tried to cover herself up, he told her: "It's okay, I've seen it all before."
While abusing her, he would say: "It's only for a minute, I love you."
He also told her not to tell anyone as "the family will be broken up and I'll get into trouble".
In July, the girl told her mother, who confronted her husband which resulted in his confession.
David Charman, mitigating, said: "He's very sorry and regrets anything detrimental towards his daughter as a result of what he's done."

Dad takes 4-year-old daughter on drug buy, leads deputies on chase (Tucson, Arizona)
What happens when you forget to take your kids to preschool...
This crazy piece of sh** could have killed this kid with these antics.

Tucson father takes child on drug buy, leads deputies on chase, authorities say

A Tucson father who is suspected of taking his 4-year-old to a drug buy instead of preschool, led deputies on a low-speed chase before being arrested Thursday afternoon.
Gary Campbell, 35, was supposed to drop off his daughter at preschool. When the little girl did not show up at school by about 12:45 p.m., the child’s mother called Campbell to find out where they were, said Deputy Tracy Suitt, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
“Campbell told her he bought some drugs and the child was with him,” Suitt said.
Deputies tried to call Campbell on his cell phone, but he did not answer. The deputies began searching for him and just after 3 p.m., they spotted his vehicle near the intersection of West Orange Grove Road and North La Cholla Boulevard.
The deputies attempted to stop Campbell, but he would not pull over. Instead he led deputies on a low-speed, 20-miles-per-hour chase with his daughter in the vehicle.
At the intersection of North La Cholla Boulevard and West Hospital Drive, deputies spread tire-deflating spike strips across the road to stop Campbell, but he drove over them and a second set of spikes and continued trying to evade deputies on four flat tires at a rate of 10 miles per hour, Suitt said.
Deputies surrounded Campbell with their vehicles in an attempt to make him stop. Instead, he rammed two patrol cars and continued driving. Deputies, finally, were able to force his vehicle off the road at North Shannon Road and West Giaconda Place, Suitt said.
Because Campbell would not get out of the car after being forced off the road, deputies had to break the driver’s side window to open the door. In the process, Campbell received cuts on the face from shards of glass, Suitt said.
The 4-year-old was unharmed. There was a child car seat in the vehicle, but Suitt did not know if the girl was buckled into it during the pursuit.
Campbell was booked into the Pima County jail and faces one count each of endangerment, aggravated DUI with a child, aggravated DUI with a suspended license, criminal damage, unlawful flight, DUI child abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a dangerous drug, and two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Dad charged with choking 3-year-old son during visitation; also burning him with cigarettes (Purcell, Oklahoma)
Actually, it's not clear what Daddy's custody rights were here: Visitation, shared custody, full custody. But it doesn't look like this glib abuser (slick explanation for everything) should be allowed any contact at all. But some idiot gave him his "rights" anyway, and of course Daddy's rights trump everybody else's.

Man charged in child abuse case
Boy shows how father choked him

A Blanchard man is charged with child abuse by injury after his 3-year-old son demonstrated for investigators how he’d been choked with his security blanket by his father.
A McClain County District Court judge set Brandon K. Drain’s bond at $50,000.
According to an affidavit, the boy’s mother took him to an emergency room in Oklahoma City after picking him up on July 11 and seeing bruises and marks on his head.
A police officer who interviewed the mother reported the boy had several injuries to his neck, as well as bruises under his chin, on his forehead and beneath his left eye.
In addition, the boy had a scrape above the eye and beside his lip.
Drain reportedly told the mother the toddler had the blanket around his neck and was alone in a bedroom when he got the marks.
However, the boy told the staff at the emergency room, “Daddy did this. He was mad,” according to the affidavit.
The mother told police she’s noticed other unexplained injuries to her son after picking him up following prior visits with Drain.
She pointed out a scar from a cigarette burn on the boy’s face.
Drain told police his son fell into a coffee table while playing with his roommate’s son.
He also said the boy slipped in the bathroom, striking his forehead on the doorknob.
Drain also told police he tied blankets around the necks of his son and another child who were playing Superman and Spiderman.
When he later removed the blanket from his son, he saw the marks.
The burn happened when the boy brushed up against a lit cigarette his grandfather was smoking, according to Drain.
During a forensic interview on August 14, the boy repeated that his father wrapped the blanket around his neck and pulled it tight, hurting him.
He also told the interviewer that he feels unsafe at his father’s home.

Dad charged with attempted murder in poisoning of 4-month-old daughter (Queensland, Australia)

Teen dad accused of poisoning his four-month-old daughter
August 29, 2013 - 1:25PM
A Queensland father poisoned his baby daughter with anti-psychotic drugs and forced her to swallow a 10 cent coin, police allege.
The 19-year-old unemployed man, who cannot be named, has been charged with attempted murder and was granted bail in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.
Police said his partner woke late on August 13 to find the couple’s four-month-old daughter struggling to breathe.
She had turned blue and was ‘‘pale and floppy’’ with a temperature of just 34 degrees, according to an affidavit tendered in court.
The infant was taken to hospital from the family’s Morayfield house, north of Brisbane, just after midnight.
Hospital staff noted she had a high heart rate and would scream in bouts.
A urine test found the antipsychotic pericyazine and the attention deficit disorder drug methylphenidate.
The father was on both drugs and suffered attention deficit disorder, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
In hospital the infant vomited up a 10 cent piece, which doctors said she could not have ingested accidentally because she lacked the motor skills.
A day earlier the father had asked his partner and her parents what would happen if the child swallowed a coin and was told she would die.
He had an argument with his partner the night of the incident and had been the last to feed the baby around 11.30pm, according to the affidavit.
Police opposed bail, saying the man had a propensity for violence and was a risk to himself and others.
Legal Aid lawyer Rhianna Batt said he had mental health issues but no significant criminal history that indicated a risk.
She said he had the support of his mother, two sisters and disability advocates, who were all in court.
Magistrate Judy Daley said she was comforted by the man’s support network and did not believe he was a flight risk.
She granted bail on the condition he have no contact with his daughter or partner and that he would stay away from the Morayfield address.
The man has also been charged with use of a controlled drug, possession and stealing.

Father In Custody For Murder Of Infant
August 29, 2013 3:39 PM
CHICAGO (CBS) — The father of a 3-month-old Washington Heights boy who died Sunday has been arrested in connection with the infant’s death, police said.
Tayshaun Dyson’s grandmother called 911 last Thursday afternoon after she found him lying unresponsive on a couch at home in the 1100 block West of 88th Street, police said.
She performed CPR on the baby until the Fire Department arrived and took him to Little Company of Mary Hospital.
Tayshaun was later transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died Sunday at 8:16 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
An autopsy Tuesday ruled the cause of death was a closed head injury and child abuse, and the death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.
The boy’s 19-year-old father was arrested Thursday afternoon and charges are pending, police said.
DCFS is also investigating allegations of abuse against the father, spokesman Dave Clarkin said Monday.
DCFS has had no prior contact with the family, and there are no siblings in the home, he said.
Child porn outrage: Pics often taken by dads (Tampa, Florida)
Gee, wonder why the general public is not familiar with these statistics? Why are we encouraging moms to supervise their kids on Facebook, while telling them to ignore Daddy running around with a video camera? But the system (from government to the media) is hellbent on promoting the "importance" and "involvement" of fathers, no matter who they are or what they are. So maintaining ignorance is crucial to that end.

TAMPA — They always knew he was a lousy father; they just had no idea how horrible he was.
When the FBI began investigating him for trading child pornography, agents came across one CD in his trove of explicit videos and pictures that made his family grateful he had dropped out of their lives.
Turns out he secretly filmed his 8-year-old daughter and her 9-year-old friend naked and in their underwear ten years ago.
One video shows the two girls in the shower. The older girl looks out of the shower and says, “Why are you recording me?”
“I’m not recording you,” the defendant says. “I’m trying to figure out how this camera works.”
He keeps assuring the girl he’s not recording and then tells her to get out of the shower. He tells her where to stand and tells her to take off her towel and dry her hair. Then he tells her to sit on the sink so he can have a better view of her. He zooms in to a shot of her crotch.
On Thursday, the 67-year-old Sarasota man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison, followed by life on probation. The Tampa Tribune is withholding the defendant’s name to protect the identity of his daughter.
The man described by his lawyer as a Vietnam veteran with numerous health problems was only the latest evidence of a fact known by child advocates but not widely recognized by the public: Fathers and father figures comprise one of the biggest categories of producers of child pornography.
In fact, nearly twice as many children in a nationwide child-porn database compiled in 2009 by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children were photographed by their parents as were victims of online enticement. The number victimized by parents was nearly seven times that of children exploited by strangers.
As recently as Wednesday, a 47-year-old Tampa man was sentenced to 10 years in state prison for possessing 10 video and image files and 2 video voyeur files depicting his stepdaughter, who was under 12 years old. His sentence, handed down in Hillsborough Circuit Court, includes a requirement that he serve 10 years of sex offender probation after he is released.
Hillsborough Sheriff’s deputies who searched his house found a concealed camera in the victim’s bedroom. In the case of the Sarasota man sentenced in federal court on Thursday, FBI agents seized nearly 6,000 images of child pornography from his home. The explicit images included babies and toddlers, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Stacie Harris. On the one CD, agents found two files, including the shower video and images of the two girls in various stages of undress, posed and set to music.
Defense lawyer Michael Perry said the defendant didn’t sexually touch any children and didn’t share the images he made of his daughter and her friend with anyone else.
The man had nothing to say before he was sentenced. His victims and their mothers, though, had plenty to tell the judge.
“He may be the father on my birth certificate, but he is far from a dad,” his daughter said in a letter read by Harris. He hasn’t been part of his children’s lives for years, she continued. He didn’t pay child support and said it was up to his children to make the effort to reach out to him.
“I always thought if I tried my best, he would realize what great children he had and step up to the plate and be there for us, but he never did. Knowing what we do now, I’m not sure whether I still hate him for not being in our lives or thank him.”
When she found out what her father had done, she said, she was “completely sick to my stomach” and still feels that way when she thinks about it. “To know I was involved was bad enough, but to find out one of my old friends was, too, is even worse. I had no idea at all what he was doing or that I was part of it. There are no words that can describe the shame, embarrassment and humiliation he has put all of us through.”
The girl’s mother, who also was not in court, said in a letter read by Harris that she has been angry at the defendant since they divorced 10 years ago. She was mad because their children wondered if they were to blame for their father’s absence.
“But now it all makes sense,” she wrote. “He chose to care about one person - himself - he sacrificed the love and respect of his children for all things material...and a sick, perverted obsession we knew nothing about until a phone call in January from the FBI that sent our world into a tailspin.”
As devastating as that news was, she added, “I am now thankful that he was a deadbeat dad in every sense of the word. I’m glad he chose to not be in their lives.”
The other victim and her mother were in court. The mother said she found a torn picture in her garage a decade ago. Piecing it together, she found her daughter and the defendant’s daughter in their underwear.
She said she called police, but nothing ever happened. “But ten years later, it has all caught up to you,” she told the defendant. “You victimized me as well...You had picture of my daughter on your wall and described her as yours...You’re sick. You sucked as a neighbor. You sucked as a father.”

Dad with history of assault, disorderly conduct arrested in trauma death of 7-month-old son; baby;s death took place during Dad's parenting time (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)
Notice that the mother and father do not live together, and that the mother dropped off the baby at the father's home on the day of his death. So obviously this case involves custody/visitation issues--whether they are court-ordered or merely "voluntary" we don't know. If the mother was getting child support, it is almost certain that visitation was mandated by the courts.
Notice how all of Daddy's family makes excuses for him while ignoring the facts.
1) Both the mother and father agree that the baby appeared normal when he was dropped off at Daddy's.
2) The autopsy reveals a death by blunt force trauma. Two brain hemorrhages were found by a trained doctor and certified child abuse specialist. These are typically caused by violent shaking and/or severe impact. Contrary to the deniers, we know how the baby died. And it was not by by a "tragic mystery."
3) This father has a documented history of assault and disorderly conduct. But of course that doesn't mean anything to the deniers either.
I suspect this is yet another couple that was never married and with no commitment to raising children together. And yet somebody deemed it necessary for Daddy to get "involved" anyway. These are the results too many times, especially with young men with trigger-tempers and violent tendencies.

Father charged with abuse, neglect in baby's death
By Ashley Luthern of the Journal Sentinel Aug. 29, 2013 1:40 p.m.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
The family of 7-month-old Deron Darnell Love Jr. say his death is a tragic mystery.
But the boy's father, Deron D. Love, 26, of Milwaukee has been charged with physical abuse of a child and recklessly causing great bodily harm, and child neglect that led to great bodily harm.
He pleaded not guilty Thursday to the charges. A scheduling conference is set for Sept. 19.
"It really was a tragic accident," said Love's uncle, Walt Love, a former radio broadcaster who has run for elected office several times in Milwaukee County. "I know Deron very well and he was so happy to be a father. ... He was proud of his son."
An autopsy has not been completed, so an official cause of death has not been released. Police believe the child died from blunt force trauma. Charges could be upgraded depending on the result of the autopsy.
According to the criminal complaint and testimony from a witness called by Assistant District Attorney Grant Huebner:
The baby's mother dropped him off at Love's residence on the morning of Aug. 13. Love was awake, while a relative and her boyfriend were sleeping in a bedroom. Love and the baby's mother both said the child appeared normal when he was taken to Love's residence.
Love told investigators he propped his son with pillows on a couch, gave him a pacifier and then went into another room to iron his clothes for a meeting. When he checked on his son, he found the baby face-down on the floor next to the couch. Love said his son was not making any movements or noises. Love said he gently shook his son to try to wake him and ran cold water over him to try to get a response. He sent numerous text messages to his girlfriend, who was supposed to come to the house and babysit during Love's meeting, and called 911.
Angela Rabbitt, a physician and a certified child abuse specialist, examined the baby and found two instances of blood on the brain. The first was on the front of the brain and seemed to be a few days old. The second hemorrhage was on the back of the brain, indicating it was a recent injury.
Rabbitt's medical opinion was that a traumatic event occurred moments before the respiratory failure that caused the baby to go limp. She also said a fall from a couch would not cause those injuries; rather, it was the result of severe impact to the child's head or violent shaking.
The child was declared dead at 8:38 a.m. Aug. 17.
In court Thursday, Love, wearing a red jail-issued uniform, was brought in shackled to a wheelchair. He rested his hands together as if he were praying with his head bowed. He looked up to consult with his attorney, Jane Christopherson, who asked Court Commissioner Rosa Barillas to dismiss the charges. Barillas denied that motion and bound Love over for trial.
Outside the courtroom, Walt Love acknowledged his nephew's prior brushes with the law but maintained Deron Love would not have hurt his son.
"He may have some things in his past, but he has never been aggressive or violent when it comes to children," Walt Love said.
Deron Love has prior convictions related to drug possession, battery and disorderly conduct. Walt Love said his nephew, who has been shot before, got into trouble because of his mentality of self-preservation in crime-ridden neighborhoods. Now, he worries his nephew also will face a homicide charge.
"We don't know how the child died," Walt Love said. "The end result is a tragedy. I lost my great-nephew and now they're trying to my take my nephew."

Custodial dad arrested after 3-year-old daughter left home alone found wandering the streets at night (Orlando, Florida)
Oh yea, right. MOM is the one with the drinking problem. Typical abuser daddy finger pointing? After all, that's a successful strategy for stripping the mother of custody, isn't it?
Let's see. We have a custodial dad who abandons a 3-year-old girl in a filthy apartment (full of beer cans!). The girl is found wandering the street at almost 11:00 at night. A neighbor calls the police. Daddy shows up some 45 minutes later, "slurring his words and wreaking of alcohol." But he insists the mother is the one with the booze issues? Check out the mirror, dude.
Who gave this loser custody? And explain to me again how poor daddies are discriminated against in the family courts? Bull malarkey.
Notice that Mom still doesn't get custody back after this. The abuser's family does. Typical.

Police find 3-year-old in parking lot, arrest father
An Orlando man is accused of leaving his 3-year-old daughter alone inside their apartment while he went out with a friend late Wednesday, according to police.
Nathan Lloyd Peterson, 28, was charged with child neglect after Orlando Police found his child wandering around in the 4000 block of Middlebrook Pointe Drive about 10:44 p.m., said Lt. Daniel Schad, a police spokesman.
Neighbor Melissa Harvey was bemused by the stomping she heard in the apartment above and when she checked, the child was walking down the stairwell alone into the parking lot.
Harvey called police after she couldn't find the girl's father, she said in the report.
Inside their Coconuts Palms apartment, officers found beer cans strewn about and a plate of old food on the girl's play table, according to an arrest report.
Peterson arrived at the apartment 45 minutes later with a friend, slurring his words and wreaking of alcohol. He said he had custody of his daughter because the girl's mother has a drinking problem.
He told police his twin brother Timothy Peterson was supposed to be watching the girl.
But when officers contacted the brother at work he refuted Nathan Peterson's story. He told police his brother was in the apartment with his niece when he left for work.
Timothy Peterson said he would never leave his niece alone if his brother wasn't there.
Police noted in their report that an hour and a half passed before Nathan Peterson inquired about his daughter's well-being.
The Department of Children and Families placed the child with Peterson's cousin.
Peterson is being held in the Orange County Jail.

Father accused of burning daughter's hand on hot stove as punishment
Girl, 7, has disfigured hand, judge said
August 28, 2013|By Wayne K. Roustan, Sun Sentinel
A father was charged with aggravated child abuse Tuesday after being accused of punishing his 7-year-old daughter by holding her hand on a hot stove, according to Broward court records.
Roberto Paul, 31, was also charged with resisting arrest with violence and his bond was set at more than $100,000 on Wednesday.
According to the arrest report read in court, Paul was, "maliciously punishing the child and knowingly causing permanent disfigurement to the child."
The girl was punished for wearing her sister's shirt, Broward Judge John "Jay" Hurley read. "[Paul] took her left hand, held it to a hot stove coil and permanently disfigured the child's hand by burning the child's hand," he said. "The child struggled to be released from [Paul's] grip."
The judge paused and took a deep breath after reading the arrest report.
Hurley pointed out there were no other witnesses to the child abuse so he ordered Paul to stay away from his daughter if he bonds out of jail.
"There is a certain level of danger she is in right now if you're released from custody," Hurley said during Paul's Wednesday morning court appearance.
Paul also was ordered not to make contact, directly or indirectly, with his daughter.

Dona Ana Father Charged With Child Abuse
By KRWG News And Partners
A Dona Ana man suspected of causing serious head injuries to his 5-month-old daughter has been arrested on multiple counts of child abuse.
Jerry M. Marquez, 24, of the 5500 block of north Ledesma Drive in Dona Ana, is charged with four counts of intentional child abuse resulting in great bodily harm.
Marquez’s daughter is recovering from her injuries and is in stable condition at El Paso Children’s Hospital.
Shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the 1600 block of Capitan Avenue where a 5-month-old girl was said to be choking or having difficulty breathing. The child was quickly transported to Memorial Medical Center and then University Medical Center of El Paso for more advanced care.
The girl has since been transferred to El Paso Children’s Hospital.
Las Cruces Police detectives began investigating the circumstances that led to the young girl’s condition and learned that Marquez, on multiple occasions, dropped his daughter or otherwise struck the child’s head against furniture. Marquez is also suspected of shaking the girl out of frustration.
Detectives learned that late Tuesday evening Marquez called his girlfriend, the child’s mother, and indicated that he was going to commit suicide. Marquez was located at the Capitan Avenue residence and transported to a local hospital.
Marquez was subsequently arrested Wednesday morning and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $150,000.

Dad indicted in baby’s death

CROSSVILLE — The father of an infant who died from trauma after being transferred to a regional trauma center earlier this month has been indicted in connection with the baby’s death, an assistant state prosecutor confirmed.
Kevin David Hastings was served the two-count indictment from a special grand jury that convened Friday at the Warren County Jail in McMinnville where he is serving a 30-day probation violation on an unrelated charge. Hastings, 29, is specifically charged with felony murder and aggravated child abuse in the death of his daughter, Grace Hastings, who died Aug. 2 at Children’s Hospital in Knoxville.
Hastings is being held without bond and will be returned to the Cumberland County Justice Center jail upon completion of his sentence in Warren County.
No other arrests are anticipated at this time.
“The indictment alleges that Kevin Hastings committed the felony of aggravated child abuse by inflicting serious bodily injury on the infant on July 20, 2013,” Assistant District Attorney General Carolyn Knight said in a press release. “In the second count, it is alleged that the injuries sustained during the perpetration of the aggravated child abuse resulted in the infant’s death on Aug. 2.”
The baby was born in April and in July was rushed from its apartment home on Burnett St. to Cumberland Medical Center with injuries that required transfer to the trauma center, sparking an investigation by the Crossville Police Department and the Department of Children’s Services.
District Attorney General Randy York followed up with a predication letter to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, requesting a formal investigation after the child died.
After the TBI completed its investigation, including the interviewing of witnesses and the infant’s medical records, the case was returned to the DA’s Office and the special grand jury convened Friday.
“We appreciate the service of the grand jurors, who took time away from their busy schedules, to convene on short notice,” Knight said. “We also appreciate the TBI, the Crossville Police Department and the Investigative Unit of the DA’s Office, all of which contributed to the investigation of this case.”
Hastings is scheduled to appear in Cumberland County Criminal Court for arraignment on the charges on Sept. 18.

Rapist dad gets sentenced reduced; daughter was impregnated at age 12 during his overnight visitation (Newborough, Australia)
Typical coddling of a pedophile, particularly a father pedophile. Lucky this girl had an abortion. Otherwise this sh** of a father would be suing for custody of or visitation with the baby.

Sentence reduced for father of five who raped girl, 12
Date August 28, 2013 - 1:37PM
Mark Russell
A father of five who repeatedly sexually abused the daughter of his former defacto partner and got her pregnant when she was 12 years old has had his jail term reduced.
The man, now aged 64, was jailed for 11 years with a non-parole period of seven years and nine months after being found guilty by a County Court jury of one charge of committing an indecent act with a child under 16, nine charges of sexual penetration of a child under 16, one charge of attempted sexual penetration of a child under 16, and one charge of making a threat to kill.
The Court of Appeal’s Justices Peter Buchanan, Marcia Neave and Phillip Priest found a conviction on one of the charges was unsafe and should be quashed, so the man was re-sentenced to 10 years and 10 months jail with a non-parole period of seven years.
Justice Buchanan said in his decision handed down on Wednesday that the man’s relationship with his victim’s mother ended in 1997 and he moved into a flat in Newborough, and later into a house in Traralgon.
The young girl frequently visited the man at the flat and the house and stayed overnight with him.
She gave evidence at the man’s trial that she was sexually assaulted by the man on a regular basis when she stayed with him.
In December 1998, when the girl was 10, she stayed overnight in the spare room at the Newborough flat when the man woke her by putting his hand over her mouth.
‘‘He held one hand to her chest and told her to keep quiet,’’ Justice Buchanan said.
‘‘He opened a condom with his mouth and said, ‘This is so you won’t get pregnant’.’’
The man then had sex with the young girl and told her if she ever told anyone, he would kill her.
On December 31, 1999, the girl and her brother stayed overnight at the Newborough flat.
The girl got out of bed to watch the fireworks. When the fireworks finished, she saw the man standing in the doorway. He said something like, ‘‘Why don’t you come in. I was waiting for you’’ before he took her hand and led her back to her room and had sex with her.
In December 2000, the girl stayed overnight at the flat and the man again had sex with her but the condom slipped off.
The man later asked the girl on a regular basis whether she had her period before he obtained a pregnancy test kit which tested positive.
In early 2001, when the girl was about six weeks pregnant, the man had sex with her without wearing a condom.
He told the girl ‘‘the only good thing about her being pregnant was that he did not have to wear a condom’’, Justice Buchanan said.
The man took the girl to a doctor in Newborough to discuss the pregnancy.
He then told the girl’s mother that he was going to take the girl to Brisbane to find a new home for the family.
Instead, the man took the girl to his sister’s house in New South Wales where they stayed for about a week.
On February 20, 2001, when the girl was 12 years old, she had an abortion.
In January 2003 the girl moved to Brisbane with her mother and her siblings.
She went to the police on February 2, 2005.
In October 2005, the girl was at a police station in Queensland when she made a recorded phone call to the man telling him her counsellor had advised her to speak to him about what had happened in Victoria.
The man apologised and told her she was not to blame herself for what happened.
He could not explain why he had acted as he did except that he ‘‘might have been lonely’’.

Dad arrested for DWI while two kids in the car (College Station, Texas)
I suspect that this is one of those cases where Daddy had his visitation that night. If he had been living with the children's mother, I bet he would have left the kids at home, and gone out alone or with his buddies. At any rate, there is no mention of where the mom was while Daddy was out "partying" with the kids.
Dad is identified as BYRON SIC-TZUNUM.

Dad leaves 7-year-old daughter in car while at strip club; what happened to this child's mother? (Orange County, Florida)
Is ELLIUT GONZALEZ a custodial father? Notice that after he was caught leaving his young daughter alone in a car outside a STRIP CLUB long AFTER MIDNIGHT, the girl was placed in the "custody" of his "girlfriend." Why his freaking girlfriend? What happened to this girl's mother, and why did this sh**head have access to this young girl in the first place? Unfortunately, this kind of crap has become so common, that reporters don't even think to ask basic questions like this.

Dad strips Mom of custody, gives away daughter to female relative, then returns when girl is 17 and rapes her (Ghana)
This is not an uncommon pattern. A sexually/physically abusive father who is intent on stripping the mother of custody so he can punish mom and maintain total control over the child victim. Notice that Dad JONATHAN SAMUEL OTTO HUGHES totally skipped out on the actual work of raising the child. Nah, he handed over the child to his (enabling?) sister who participated in this sick charade of keeping this girl from her mother. And then when he decided he was ready, he moved in to take possession of the girl so he could rape her.

Takoradi Circuit Court remands father for incest
A 37-year-old father, Jonathan Samuel Otto Hughes, was on Tuesday remanded into police custody by a Takoradi Circuit Court, for allegedly abusing his 17-year-old daughter sexually.
The accused was charged for incest and child abuse.
His plea was not taken and would reappear on September 4.
Prosecuting, Inspector Fuseini Yakubu, told the court presided over by Mr Charles Bamfo Nimako that the complainant, Emmanuel Opoku, a Journalist with the Daily Guide Newspaper in Takoradi while the accused is a businessman who resides at Adiembra, near Sekondi with his daughter.
Inspector Yakubu said the victim was the second child of the accused with his ex-wife.
After the divorce, Hughes took custody of the child at the age of five and gave her to his elder sister, Grace Hughes and left for Spain.
When Hughes returned from Spain last year, the daughter was 17 years old.
The accused inquired from the daughter whether she was a virgin, and she answered in the affirmative.
Inspector Yakubu said Hughes took advantage of her and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her on a number of occasions.
In spite of the pains she went through anytime the father had sex with her, the accused continued the act with an explanation that he was preparing her for future marriage.
The victim became fed-up with the sexual abuse and narrated her ordeal to one Yahaya, a neighbour and family friend.
Yahaya confronted the victim’s father about the accusation leveled against him, but he vehemently denied it.
Later, the victim left the father’s house and sought refuge at Yahaya’s home, but Hughes went to his house and threatened Yahaya with two eggs and a bottle of locally manufactured gin popularly called ‘Akpeteshie’, to release the daughter to him or else he would curse him.
Yahaya informed Mr Opoku who lodged a complaint with the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of Ghana Police Service at Sekondi, and Hughes was subsequently arrested.
The accused denied sleeping with the daughter in his caution statement but was charged with the offence and arraigned.

Dad with history of DV threatens Mom because she took child to school when he was late; why is this idiot allowed any custody/visitation at all? (United Kingdom)
Why co-parenting with an abusive idiot is impossible.
Dad LEWIS MILLER had been CONVICTED of battering the mom before. Nevertheless, she still tried to cooperate with him in terms of co-parenting. One day Dad is late to take the son to nursery school so Mom took him herself (the horror!). For this "crime" she is threatened with a pipe wrench. For his part, Daddy only gets a suspended sentence. Mom gets an order of protection, but check this out: Daddy STILL GETS SUPERVISED VISITATION. Daddy coddling at its finest.
This is why mothers and children can never heal from trauma. They are just re-traumatized again and again by a system that values Daddy's rights over everybody else.

Suspended sentence for father, Lewis Miller, who threatened former partner with wrench in Bushey
1:10pm Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News By Court Reporter
Angry Lewis Miller saw red when he was unable to take his child by his former partner to nursery school. He had arrived late at her home in Bushey and she and the child had left.
But a short while later, when he spotted Louise Oliver sitting in a car outside a parade of shops in Bushey Mill Lane, there was an ugly confrontation.
St Albans Crown Court heard he shouted and swore at her before making a threatening gesture to her with a wheel nut wrench.
Lewis of Bromfield, Stanmore, pleaded guilty to having an offensive weapon and assault by beating. David Chrimes, prosecuting, said it was on the morning of July 12 this year when Lewis arrived at his ex's home intending to take their young son to nursery school.
It was an arrangement they had, but that morning he was running late and the mum and child left before he got there.
Miss Oliver had asked a female friend if she would give them a lift in her car to the nursery school.
The court heard after the little boy was dropped off the women went to a nearby parade of shops in Bushey Mill Lane.
The other woman got out of the vehicle leaving her own child on the back seat and Miss Oliver sitting in the front passenger seat.
It was then that the defendant drove past and saw Miss Oliver in the car.
He was still fuming that he had not been able to take his son to school and decided to confront her, swearing and shouting abuse.
Lewis then grabbed the wrench from his own car and jabbed it through the open window towards Miss Oliver before leaving the scene.
The court was told Lewis had a previous conviction for battery on Miss Oliver in 2012, for which he was fined £500 and ordered to pay her £100 compensation.
For the latest offence Lewis was sentenced to four months imprisonment suspended for 18 months and placed on supervision for 18 months.
He was also made the subject of a five year restraining order not to have any contact with Miss Oliver accept through a mutually acceptable third party so that he can continue to see his son.

Big Daddy Drama as police and Coast Guard resources are utilized to recover this jerk--before the kids got sick or died from hypothermia or dehydration.

Wanted Mich. Father, 3 Famished Children Found Safe At National Park

GLEN HAVEN, Mich. — A man who was the target of a 12-hour manhunt at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in northern Michigan remains in custody and an official said he will be formally charged Wednesday.
Daniel Gerard Elliott, 50, will remain in the Emmet County Jail on $10,000 cash bond on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence that was authorized by a county prosecutor in a warrant. Elliott is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday, Sheriff Peter Wallin said.
The magistrate's order included a requirement that Elliott get a mental health evaluation before being released. A district court official said Elliott had not retained an attorney.
The case developed over the weekend when the family from the Detroit suburb of Orchard Lake was visiting friends and relatives in the northern Michigan town of Petoskey, police said.
Wallin said Elliott and his wife had a physical confrontation Sunday and she was left on the side of a road, where she called police. Wallin would not provide further details of the incident, but a blog posting by the sheriff's office in Leelanau County, where the national lakeshore is located, said she was "forced out of the family vehicle by her husband."
Elliott then drove about 90 miles south to the lakeshore with the couple's three children, where they spent the night in the woods without food, water or shelter. Heavy rain fell Monday morning, followed by scorching, muggy weather.
Searchers found the family Monday night walking down a sandy hillside. Authorities said the children were hungry, thirsty, exhausted and covered with mosquito bites but otherwise in good health.
"I feared for the worst," Leelanau County Sheriff Mike Borkovich said. "It all turned out well, but something was wrong with this picture."
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter repeatedly swept over the lakeshore, while dozens of officers with several law enforcement agencies combed the shoreline and swampy woodlands.
The children – 14- and 10-year-old girls and a 9-year-old boy – said they knew there was a helicopter looking for them and that they'd been hiding all day, Borkovich said.
Borkovich said the search had been expensive but couldn't provide an estimated cost.
The children told rescuers their father had described the outing as a camping trip, even though they had few supplies or equipment, said Phil Akers, chief ranger at the national lakeshore.
A park ranger spotted a car with a dented door parked near the Coast Guard Maritime Heritage Museum Monday morning. Borkovich said the ranger ran a check on the license plate and learned there was an alert for the vehicle.
Authorities believe Elliott had no criminal intent in taking the children, Borkovich said. He also said that no other charges are expected.
Elliott's wife "said she was concerned for the welfare of her children because of her husband's mental state but did not believe he would harm them," Borkovich said in a blog posting.
Even so, he said Elliott had acted unwisely.
"If you take off in 90-degree heat without plans, without water, without food, you're gone in a rainstorm without ... a tent, I would call that somewhat of a rogue camping event," Borkovich said. "Very risky."

Dad arrested after kids found barricaded in home, malnourished and covered in bruises (Midwest City, Oklahoma)
If Mom was mentally ill, then why is she getting pregnant every year (three kids under three)? Sounds like this guy may be abusing the wife as well. Dad is identified as KYLER KEEL.

Father arrested for child abuse after a neighbor finds kids barricaded
Posted on: 5:58 pm, August 27, 2013, by Paige Hill
MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — A metro father was arrested Monday after a startling discovery by a neighbor. On July 30th, Kyler Keel asked his neighbor to watch his three children ranging in ages from 3- to 1-year-old, while he went to look for his wife. Once in the apartment his neighbor couldn’t find the kids. \
According to court documents she finally found two of them behind a “mattress barricading the bedroom door,” and the youngest “in the master bedroom closet lying on the floor with the door shut.” Keel told officers he did that so the kids wouldn’t get out and get hurt but when Midwest City police arrived they felt the kids just weren’t being taken care of properly.
Assistant Police Chief Sid Porter says, “The children were in diapers that were soiled. There wasn`t any food in the house. I believe one of the children appeared to be malnourished.”
Court documents say DHS found “knives, sharp tools, medications, and house hold cleaners within reach of their children,” and that the kids “had bruises all down their legs.”
Keel told officers he left the children locked in a bedroom so he could go look for his wife who police say has a “mental illness and doesn’t remember anything.”
We are not revealing her name but we found this post on Facebook right after the incident saying quote, “Today and yesterday was the worse days of my life.”
We stopped by the keel`s apartment, but no one was home.
Police are still looking for the children’s mother. In the meantime, the children remain in protective custody. “They’re not being taken care of. A three-year-old, a two-year-old and a one-year-old cannot take care of themselves,” says Porter.
“They count on a parent to take care of them.”
Kyler Keel is facing child abuse and enabling child abuse charges. His bail is set at $20,000 while Midwest City police keep investigating to possibly file additional charges.

Mom discusses events leading to 15-year-old daughter's 2009 murder by custodial dad (Dyersburg, Tennessee)
We've reported on this case before. After all these years, the mother has won a $300,000 judgement against the Tennessee Department of Children's Servcies. The killer dad was CHRIS MILBURN.
A case where the mother encouraged her daughter to have a relationship with the father (contrary to fathers rights propaganda), and got totally burned. Dad ended up seizing full custody, shutting off all contact with the mother, and sexually and physically abusing the girl. He then killed her after she attempted to report the abuse and went into foster care.

Mother speaks about life events leading up to daughter's 2009 murder
Saturday, August 24, 2013
Dyersburg State Gazette
The mother of a murdered child was recently awarded a $300,000 judgment against the state of Tennessee in a wrongful-death suit. She hopes the judgment brings about a positive change in the state's troubled Department of Children's Services. She also wants the memory of her daughter to be one of strength and determination and an inspiration to others that are too afraid to speak up.
In the summer of 2009, Jessica Readen's 15-year-old daughter, whose identity cannot be released, but is known as SNM in the legal case, was living in Dyersburg, Tenn. with her father Chris Milburn. The child reported as being physically and sexually abused by her father to the Tennessee Department of Children's Services in July 2009. DCS removed the teen from her father's custody and placed her in the home of neighbors, Todd and Susan Randolph, who lived just two doors down from Milburn on Blake Cove in Dyersburg. On Aug. 2, 2009, Milburn walked over to the Randolphs' house and shot his daughter and both of the Randolphs and then committed suicide in a nearby field. Susan Randolph, who was shot multiple times, was the only survivor.
Readen, who was living in Reedsport, Ore. at the time of the incident, says no matter how much money the state awards her it cannot bring her daughter back, but at least the judgment shows the state was at fault. Attorneys Dean Dedmon and Lewis Jenkins Jr. of Wilkerson Gauldin Hayes & Jenkins in Dyersburg represented Readen in the wrongful-death suit against the state. Susan Randolph was also part of the same suit. On April 19 -- 20, a trial was held in Dyersburg to determine if the state was at fault for the murders. In November of 2012, Tennessee Claims Commissioner Nancy C. Miller-Herron handed down a judgment to Readen in the amount of $300,000. Dyersburg resident Susan Randolph was also awarded $275,000 from injuries she received from the incident and the estate of her late husband received $300,000.
To hear Readen recall the events leading up to her daughter's death, a person can tell she deeply loved her daughter and regrets ever letting her daughter go with the man who denied he was her father for the first half of her life.
Readen and Milburn were never married. She says that when she told Milburn she was pregnant with his child he denied being the father. Readen had the child in 1994 and the couple separated.
"The day I got her home from the hospital, (Milburn) came over to my house and he held her for about five minutes," said Readen. "He looked at her face and looked at me and he said 'is she really mine?' and I said 'yeah' and he said 'I've got to go,' and he handed her back to me and I didn't see him again (until eight years later)."
Milburn reportedly moved from the area while Readen stayed and married another man. The couple then began raising SNM as their own.
"She was being raised as my husband's daughter," said Readen.
Readen says one day, out of the blue, she received a phone call from Milburn who reportedly said he had grown up and had two daughters, he wanted SNM to meet them and he also wanted to get to know his daughter. Readen was reluctant, but through Milburn's persistence she gave in and allowed him to come to Oregon to visit their daughter. He flew out multiple times to visit his daughter and the two grew closer. During this time, Milburn gained Readen's trust and looked as if he was sincere in rebuilding a relationship with his daughter.
"He put up a real good front he was going to be a dad to her," said Readen.
When SNM was around 9 years old, Readen allowed her daughter to travel with Milburn to Dyersburg and be introduced to her extended family. That was the last time she saw her daughter alive and when the nightmare began.
"She was supposed to go there for three weeks and (Milburn) just basically stole her from me," said Readen. "(SNM) called me and said she wanted (to extend her visit) to go to a concert and two weeks later I got orders in the mail to come to Dyersburg and fight for custody of her."
Milburn, who had a family of his own in Dyersburg, had filed custody papers and decided SNM would live with him and not return her to Oregon.
At the time, Readen had just gotten divorced from her husband and was raising three children. She had been a housewife and mother and was not working at the time. She said she found herself in a situation where she felt helpless and didn't have the resources to travel across the country and regain custody of her child.
"I was devastated when he took her from me," said Readen. "I had been raising her."
Readen's attorney Dean Dedmon says there have been misconceptions in the community about Readen's involvement in her daughter's life. He says Milburn was to blame for taking the child back to Tennessee with him knowing Readen couldn't afford to get to Dyersburg to try to get her back.
"If anybody gets anything out of this, I want people to know Jessica didn't abandon her child," said Dedmon. "Far from it, she did everything she could do to get the father to let her to come back into her life. (Milburn) fooled everyone and essentially developed an entire protocol to do nothing, but eliminate this woman from this child's life. And that's the hell she has to live with on a daily basis. She did everything she could do under the circumstance. She just didn't have the resources."
Dedmon added that while SNM was in Tennessee, Readen developed significant health issues, which debilitated her and put further strain on her finances.
Over the next several years, Readen says Milburn systematically began to turn their daughter against her. She said Milburn regulated SNM's contact with her and he would sit next to SNM whenever they spoke and told her what to say, including calling Milburn's wife "mom".
"(Milburn) was telling me over periods of time that (SNM) had forgotten about me and she didn't want to talk to me, and that she had a mother," said Readen. "The whole time I was (telling him) you need to let her talk for herself and you need to let me talk to her."
Readen says it wasn't until SNM was in junior high school that she was able to use a friend's cell phone to call Readen and the two of them speak freely. It was during these conversations that Readen says she was able to reconnect with her daughter. Readen was also able to secretly send her a cell phone she could use to call her without fear of Milburn interfering.
A case where the mother encouraged her daughter to have a relationship with the father (contrary to fathers rights propaganda), and got totally burned. Dad ended up seizing full custody, shutting off all contact with the mother, and sexually and physically abusing the girl. Dad hands teen daughter loaded shotgun, tells her to kill herself--all because she wanted to date (North Platte, Nebraska)
Dad SHANE HALCOTT isn't "overly protective"--he's a psycho. Is Nebraska the new Afganistan or something? Potential "honor killings" on the high plains?

Overly protective dad charged with child abuse
by George Lauby (North Platte Bulletin) - 8/26/2013
A parent in Sutherland carried his inclination to protect his teenage daughter too far, landing him in jail, the Lincoln County Sheriff's office said Monday.
Just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning, sheriff’s deputies received a report of a girl in Sutherland wanting to harm herself.
Deputies responded and contacted the girl, her parents and several other witnesses at the girl's home. The girl, a juvenile, said she had met a boy at the Hershey teen dance. When she got home she told her father, 42-year-old Shane Halcott, about the boy, according to a sheriff’s statement.
Halcott began to berate the girl and told her she could not date any boys.
The girl grew distressed and an argument began. At one point, in passing, the juvenile said she wanted to hurt herself, the sheriff’s statement said. The girl and other witnesses told investigators that Halcott retrieved a pump shotgun, loaded it and tried to hand the gun to the girl. He allegedly told her to use the gun to kill herself and attempted to give it to her several times.
When questioned, Halcott did not deny the story, the sheriff said.
Halcott was charged with felony child abuse (class 3) and jailed. The maximum sentence is 20 years imprisonment.

1-year-old son dies after Dad attacks his would-be rescuers (Dallas, Texas)

1-Year-Old Boy Dies After Dad Knocks Firefighter Unconscious, Assaults Home Nurse — Both Tried to Help Child Who Was Struggling to Breathe
Aug. 24, 2013 6:57pm
A 1-year-old boy died Saturday after his father attacked the boy’s home-care nurse and a firefighter, both who were trying to save his son’s life during a medical emergency.
The boy was under 24-hour home nursing care for an undisclosed medical condition, according to the Dallas Morning News.
The child began struggling with his breathing Saturday morning. The nurse on duty, Lisa Decatur, tried to help, police said, but the boy’s father assaulted her. Decatur called 911 and two firefighters arrived, the Morning News reports.
Firefighter Michael Barrett tried to intervene, but the father punched him in the face, knocking Barrett unconscious. The other firefighter radioed for help, police responded, the father was handcuffed and removed from the boy’s room, and then rescuers were able to perform CPR on the child.
The boy was then rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, the Morning News says.
It isn’t clear why the father fought his son’s rescuers, police said, adding that the case is being investigated by child-abuse detectives.
The father, whose name wasn’t released, will be charged with assault and aggravated assault of a public servant, the Morning News says.
The injured firefighter was treated for his wounds at a hospital and was released.

An eight-week-old baby had at least 10 fractured ribs and a broken leg after he was abused by his teenage father who was overwhelmed by the demands of work and parenthood, a Perth court was told yesterday.
The baby's 19-year-old father was given a two-year suspended jail term after he admitted reckless conduct that caused a child in his care or control to suffer harm.
The infant's multiple fractures, including a fractured shin bone and the broken ribs, were detected in October after the baby was taken to hospital by its parents for another reason.
Doctors also found other possible injuries that were healing at different rates, indicating they were inflicted at different times, the District Court was told.
The court was told the teenager admitted to handling the child roughly three times, including squeezing him thinking it would calm him. He said he "snapped" but admitted that afterwards, he knew what he had done was wrong.
Defence lawyer Anthony Eyers said the teen had been struggling with the demands of becoming a parent, was under pressure at work and had lacked the maturity and experience to cope.
He said the incidents came out of despair and frustration and were a "clear illustration of someone with the best intentions but not the ability to put those best intentions into effect".
The court was told the father confessed to child abuse squad officers, telling them he was angry and frustrated and took it out on the child.
Judge Anette Schoombee said she accepted the man had not intended to hurt his son and had not been prepared for the demands of having a baby.
The court was told the baby did not have permanent injuries and the teen now had only supervised access to his son. Judge Schoombee said there was a need to send a strong message that mistreatment of children was a serious offence and there would be suitable punishment.

Jessamine County Father Accused Of Running Over Child's Leg

A Jessamine county man is accused of running over his child with a car, and then refusing to get her medical treatment.
The accident happened on Peachtree Street Wednesday evening.
Police say the small child that fell out of the car was not even two years old. They say this whole incident could have been prevented. Investigators say the toddler was not properly restrained at the time of the accident - she wasn't wearing a seat belt nor was she in a child safety seat.
We're told a witness saw the driver, Viktor Grishchuk, turn onto Peachtree St. That's when police say a car door opened followed by the toddler falling out. Grishchuk is accused of then backing up the car and running over his daughter's leg. When police came to investigate, they found there were six people, mostly kids, inside the five-seat car.
"She did have some abrasions to her foot. It didn't look too serious, but we wanted to make sure there wasn't any underlying issues to her foot because she was favoring it. So when EMS arrived, dad refused medical treatment for the child," said Sergeant Scott Harvey.
LEX18 stopped by to get Grishchuk's side of the story but no one came to the door. A family member called LEX18 newsroom and disputed what the witness said, but did not want to speak on camera.
Vicktor Grishchuk was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment. He has since been released from the Jessamine county jail.

After a 3-year-old girl was raped and abandoned in India early Wednesday, Jaipur police took her father into custody because he was acting odd.
Later during questioning, the 35-year-old father said he raped his daughter while inebriated after his wife refused sex, police reported.
According to the Press Trust of India, passersby discovered the girl and took her to a local hospital, where she was admitted in critical condition. After the young girl's mother awoke and noticed her daughter was missing, she contacted police and was later taken to the hospital where she identified the sexual assault victim as her daughter.
Doctors confirmed the 3-year-old had been raped and suffered a considerable amount of blood loss from the assault.
"While the mother was crying, the man left the hospital saying he was going out for a shave at the barber's shop. The behavior was unusual for a man whose daughter had been raped like this," Mahendra Singh, the local deputy commissioner of police, told the Times News Network.
Police were also suspicious because the girl's mother noted that her husband had a history of misconduct and altercations with women. But it wasn't until authorities questioned the man about the last time he had sex that the evidence began to implicate him in the crime.
The man reportedly said he last had sex four days ago. However, a medical examination indicated that he likely had intercourse within the past few hours.
It was at that time that the father confessed to raping his child after drinking several quarter-bottles of liquor. Even worse, he admitted he had no regrets for the sexual assault and blamed his wife for denying him.
Police confirmed the father raped his daughter through blood sampling and arrested him, DNA India reports. Though the 3-year-old is in stable condition, doctors said she is not out of the woods just yet.

Crying 3-year old leads to arrest of drunk dad (Kingsport, Tennessee)
The childcare arrangements aren't clear in the slightest.
Did the parents live together? Was Dad babysitting while Mom was away?
Or did the parents not live together? If so, is this a custodial father? A "sharing" arrangment that was court-ordered? Voluntary? What?
Dad is identified as RAYMOND O. MENYA.

KINGSPORT — A three-year-old’s cries outside a Kingsport apartment complex at 4 a.m., upset because she couldn’t wake her father, have led to charges of child abuse and neglect.
An affidavit filed in Kingsport court says the man was located in a car with two empty bottles of alcohol — and he asked officers who roused him why they were “in his house.”
At 4:10 a.m. Thursday, Kingsport police responded to Cloud Apartments, 1220 Reedy Place, in reference to a screaming girl. Court records say that outside of apartment 100 officers located a Saturn with a man “slumped in the driver’s seat.”
The suspect was later identified as Raymond O. Menya, 23, of the residence. Police say two empty bottles of alcohol were observed in the car, with Menya believing he was inside his apartment.
Menya was allegedly unsteady on his feet and emitted a strong odor of alcohol. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication and child abuse and neglect of the girl, his 3-year-old daughter.
Child Protective Services were called to the scene, with police later learning the girl had been left in the care of Menya. At the time of the early morning incident, police attempted to locate her mother but were unsuccessful.

Police: Father opens fire on family in Shaler Township
James Edwards kills daughter, self on Winterset Drive
UPDATED 11:08 PM EDT Aug 22, 2013
SHALER TOWNSHIP, Pa. —Allegheny County homicide detectives said they're looking for a motive after a man shot his daughter, son and wife, and then himself early Thursday morning.
James Edwards, 52, and daughter Laurin Edwards, 19, died in the shooting at the family's house on Winterset Drive. The family dog was also killed.
Taken to Allegheny General Hospital were Edwards' son, Jimmy, 21, and wife, Charlene, 51. Both victims were listed in critical condition Thursday afternoon.
The Allegheny County Airport Authority said James Edwards worked as an electrician at Pittsburgh International Airport. Neighbors said his wife is a nurse and the couple's son is a pharmacy student at Duquesne University. The daughter was also a college student at Saint Francis University who just had celebrated her birthday one day ago.
Police said the mother called 911 from inside the house at about 3 a.m. When officers arrived, they found James Edwards and Laurin Edwards dead in the hallway, and Charlene Edwards and Jimmy Edwards alive but badly wounded.
"She lives for those kids. She is a perfect mother with them, and I just can't believe that this happened," said neighbor Linda Behrhorst.
Police said the victims were shot in different rooms, as the son was playing Xbox online at the time. A second 911 call was made by someone who heard the shooting while playing video games with the son, police said.
"There was an open audio connection via the gaming system, so whoever was playing games heard some of the events," Lt. Andy Schurman said.
The father had been suspended from work on Friday, police said, but they don't know if that played a role.
"We are in the early stages of the investigation trying to determine what may have caused this," Schurman said.

Dad jailed over suffocation death of 6-week-old son (Edinburgh, Scotland)

Father jailed over death of six-week-old baby

Published on the 22 August 2013
A SIX-week-old baby suffocated under a plastic sheet after his drunk dad left him alone on a sofa for six hours.
Little Ruaridh McLeod had been taken into the living room after waking up in the night, but dad Roderick Hunter – who had binged on booze and drugs – went to the toilet and didn’t return.
The boy’s mum, hairdresser Ashleigh McLeod, woke the next morning to find him trapped under a cover used to protect furniture while they decorated their Ferry Road Avenue home.
She frantically tried to resuscitate her son while Hunter called for an ambulance, but Ruaridh – described as a “healthy, happy baby” – was already dead.
Neighbours in the street today described tragic Ruaridh as a “bonnie wee thing”.
One said: “I’d only really seen them on the stair as they’d only been here for a few weeks when it happened.
“He was a bonnie wee thing. I’d seen him and his mum but not the dad. It’s such a tragic thing to happen.”
Another said: “They were just in and I knew they’d been decorating. I heard what had happened the next day when police came around asking questions. It’s an absolute tragedy.”
Hunter, 30, was yesterday jailed for 27 months at Edinburgh Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to neglecting his son while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, leaving him unattended for more than six hours and failing to provide for his physical safety and emotional wellbeing on November 23, 2011.
The court heard how chef Hunter had been sipping alcohol secretly from a juice bottle while at work that night, before drinking with a colleague after his shift. He then bought cider on his way home but stopped at a bar for more drinks. When he got back, he continued to knock back booze and smoked cannabis.
Prosecutor Karon Rollo said that when Ruaridh woke at around 3am, Hunter took him into the living room for a feed, but added that the dad now had no memory of placing his son on the sofa.
Ms Rollo said that when Ms McLeod woke up at 10am “she panicked and asked the accused where the child was” before finding him “lying on the settee on his back with the plastic sheeting over his head and face”.
Defence counsel Neil Murray QC told the court that the couple were still together and that Hunter was seeking help for a “long-standing drink problem”.
Jailing Hunter, who now lives in Nichollfield, Newhaven, Sheriff McColl told him: “I accept you are truly remorseful. I expect it is something with you every waking moment.”

‘Sadistic’ dad jailed for baby cruelty
Published on the 22 August 2013 08:23
A dad has been jailed for carrying out a series of “sadistic” assaults on his newborn daughter.
Joshua Stephens, 22, was told by a judge that he posed a significant risk to the public as he imposed an extended prison sentence on him.
A court heard Stephens was violent to the baby from her being born until she was six weeks old when he confessed to his wife that he had hit her.
Leeds Crown Court heard Stephens slapped the girl “as hard as you would hit a man”.
On other occasions he held a pillow over her face and forced her head under water while he was giving her a bath.
After admitting to his wife what he had done, Stephens went to a police station and told officers he had an overwhelming desire to hurt his daughter.
He was jailed for four years and told must serve an extended licence period of four years upon his release after pleading guilty to cruelty to a child and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Judge Geoffrey Marson, QC, told Stephens: “It is obvious that these incidents occurred as a result of your sadistic desire to cause pain and distress to your daughter.
“This was a gross breach of trust on a vulnerable child.”
The abuse came to light on September 4 last year when Stephens hit the youngster “as hard as he could” when she woke up crying for a feed.
The baby was left with a bruised cheek from the blow. Stephen’s wife was out of the room at the time and he admitted what he had done when she returned. Stephens, of Crowlees Road, Mirfield, also told his wife’s father about what he had done before going to Dewsbury police station and telling officers: “I hit my daughter and smothered her.”
Stephens underwent a psychiatric assessment and told a doctor that he had a history of self harming from the age of 14 and had strong urges to punch objects and use knives.
The doctor diagnosed Stephens as suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder and was prone to impulsive and unpredictable behaviour.
Judge Marson added: “There is at the moment a significant risk of serious harm to the public.”

Dad gets 6 months in jail for raping 8-year-old daughter, forcing her to watch porn (Cayman Islands)
There is mention of UNNAMED DAD's girlfriend (the one in the sex-tape) but NO mention of this girl having a mother? Why? Didn't she have one? Did this rapist have full custody? Shared custody? What? He obviously had some sort of access.

Crown appeals sentence for father who abused 8-year-old daughter
By: James Whittaker
A man who forced his 8-year-old daughter to watch pornography while he indecently assaulted her faces the possibility of having his jail sentence increased.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions confirmed this week that it will appeal the six-month prison sentence given to the 44-year-old, who admitted to a string of sexual offences against his daughter.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced recently by Cayman Islands Chief Magistrate Nova Hall. The sentence sparked public outrage. An online petition calling for a review gathered more than 400 signatures within a few days.
Cheryll Richards, director of public prosecutions, said, “An internal review of the matter has already been undertaken and a decision made that the matter is to be the subject of an appeal.”
She did not comment on whether the public response had influenced the decision.
The original court hearing heard how the man had made his victim watch pornography, including a sex-tape of himself and his girlfriend, before indecently assaulting her.
Passing sentence, the magistrate said the victim had suffered emotional and psychological problems as a result of the abuse and will require long-term counseling.
The defendant, a Grand Cayman resident, admitted two counts of indecent assault, one of common assault, one of insulting the modesty of a woman and two counts of making obscene publications.
Magistrate Hall sentenced him to nine months in prison for the “most serious” of the indecent assaults. She gave separate custodial sentences for two of the other offences, but ordered they run concurrently, meaning he will serve no additional jail time.
She also suspended three months of the sentence for two years, meaning he will serve six months behind bars in total. If he commits another offence within two years, he will be liable to serve the remaining three months of his sentence. Ms Hall said she had taken into consideration the fact that the man had entered a guilty plea, had apparently been abused himself as a teenager and was undergoing psychotherapy and taking medication to “address his situation”.
Sandra Catron, a community activist who has campaigned for tougher sentences and public exposure of sex offenders through a national register, said many in the community felt the sentence was far too lenient.
She set up the petition to call for an appeal of sentence and for the Legislative Assembly to insist on minimum sentences being imposed in such cases.
She said, “The petition was started because yet again as an activist on this issue I am outraged at the low sentences that these child molesters continue to receive from the judiciary. It appears to me that their judges are more sympathetic to the plight of the offender that that of the victim. Many people in this community are disappointed in the judiciary and that’s why I started this petition.”

Police: Father Left Young Children Alone For Weekend
August 21, 2013 2:00 PM
Reporting Joan Murray
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Two young brothers walked a mile alone from their dad’s home where police say they were left alone by their father for a weekend.
A driver on his way to work passed by the boys and took the scared and hungry brothers to police. A six-year-old, along with his 4 year-old brother, were on a weekend visit with their father—except their father was not home.
The boys’ father, 48-year-old Jean Claude Maxime, turned himself in at police headquarters on Monday. He admitted in a statement to leaving his children home alone, police said, and remains in jail facing two counts of child neglect.
Adam Alper, according to the Sun Sentinel, saw the boys on his way to work early Sunday at Broward Boulevard and Southwest 18th Avenue about cross a busy street alone. He stopped to help.
“They were crying, in the street, one of them hysterical,” Alper, 30, told the paper.
On Tuesday, the boys, who were unharmed, were home with their mother Joanne Maxime.
The boys left their dad’s home Sunday “because they were scared” said Broward County Judge John “Jay” Hurley.
“(They) advised they were terrified of you and they were not to tell anyone about being left at home,” Judge Hurley said.
The judge also said that Alper, the stranger who picked them up, took them to the police station because they didn’t know where their mother lived.
When they arrived the police station, Judge Hurley said, the boys told police that they were left home alone for the two days with no supervision or food.
Judge Hurley set bond for the father at $2,000. If he is released on bond he is to be fitted with an ankle monitor and not permitted to have contact with his children.

Dad beat 7-year-old daughter for kissing boy at birthday party; attacked girl's mother when she questioned his actions, apparently during custody exchange (Indianapolis, Indiana)
Notice that the parents do not live together, and that the mother was picking up the daughter at the father's home. So it appears that this was a custody/visitation situation.
In addition, notice that the mother was also attacked with a belt during the custody exchange.
The exact nature of the custody situation, as is typical, is not explained. Did the belt-obsessed UNNAMED DAD have physical or legal custody? Was this a "joint" situation? We don't know, we aren't told.
Also notice that even with physical evidence of abuse, the police refuse to make an arrest. Typical of a state which is beholden to the fathers rights movement. How much you want to bet that this father had a history of domestic violence/child abuse that was ignored by the courts in their rush to give this nutball his "rights"?

Indianapolis man suspected of whipping 7-year-old daughter with belt for kissing boy

Police are investigating allegations that a Westside Indianapolis father beat his 7-year-old daughter with a belt because she kissed a boy at a birthday party.
The 26-year-old man also wielded the belt against the girl’s mother, the woman told police, when the woman became angry about the man’s actions toward the girl.
Both the girl and the woman had welt marks on their legs when police spoke with them an hour after Sunday’s incident, according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report.
The mother told police she learned of the belt-whipping about 6:20 p.m. Sunday when she stopped at the man’s home north of 21st Street near the White River. She was there to pick up the couple’s daughter.
The woman noticed marks on the girl’s legs, the IMPD report said, and when she asked the man about it, he “stated that they were at a birthday party earlier (Sunday) and she had kissed a boy so he punished her by whipping her with a belt when they got home.”
At that point, the man started to whip the girl again, the woman told police. The girl hid between a couch and closet door, she said.
At one point, the man struck the woman on her left leg with the belt as the two argued over the girl’s treatment.
The man then suggested the two sit down and more calmly discuss the situation, the woman said, but the woman refused and left the man’s home with her daughter.
An evidence technician took photos of the belt marks, an IMPD officer wrote, and the case has been turned over to a child abuse detective. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.
Anytime Indianapolis police encounter cases of suspected child abuse, the Marion County prosecutor gives those reports high priority, said Peg McLeish, spokeswoman for the prosecutor.
“Incidents involving suspected child abuse, neglect or battery are reviewed for potential criminal charges on a case-by-case basis,” McLeish said.
“It is important that anyone suspecting child abuse report their concerns to the Indiana Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-800-800-5556 and request an investigation by the Indiana Department of Child Services. “If a child may be in immediate danger, call 911,” she said.
