Cape man accused of child abuse
Updated: Dec 20, 2011 10:06 PM CST

CAPE CORAL - A Cape Coral family was ripped apart after an apparent case of child abuse. Police say Thomas Scheurell used his hands to hit his seven-year-old boy as a form of discipline for breaking a water pipe.
The boy's mother, Christine Penwell, says they all just moved to Cape Coral a few weeks ago from up north and that it's been difficult adjusting.
The boy's father, Penwell's boyfriend, recently became a stay at home dad and she says the pressure boiled over."I know in my heart he didn't mean to hurt his child. I know that," Penwell said.
Fighting back tears Tuesday evening, Penwell said Scheurell shouldn't have hit their son.
Scheurell is now behind bars facing abuse charges and their son has welts and a bruise on his back.
"I told the cops I'm shocked that he even whipped him," Penwell said.
Cape police say it all started after the child got on top of a water heater. It subsequently broke and water flooded the apartment.
Then, police say the child fell to the ground and hit his nose and it started to bleed. His dad then got very angry and started to hit him.
In the report, Scheurell states he was not sorry for hitting his son and that he is always misbehaving.
Penwell says Scheurell is new at being a stay at home dad since they just moved to Florida. And she said she thinks he went to far while disciplining the boy for breaking the water heater.
"I think it was just a mixture of everything. The pressure that is building up on top of us," Penwell said.
Penwell says she has the means to get Scheurell out of jail, but added that a judge said she and her son are to have no contact with him.
She says she's trying to find a way through the courts to figure out options for him and that her son wants to see his dad at Christmas.

Dad convicted in Father's Day stabbing deaths of infant son, baby's mother (Watervliet, New York)
Fathers Rights people are always accusing moms of "gatekeeping." If anything, the opposite is true. Moms are basically not allowed or encouraged to use their discretion when it comes to visitation anymore. This mom had an order of protection against dad BRYAN ASHLINE for beating her. Yet she decided to be nice and let daddy visit the baby on Father's Day. He returned the courtesy by stabbing both her and the baby to death.

Watervliet man stabbed to death his ex-girlfriend and their infant son

The Watervliet man who stabbed to death his ex-girlfriend and their infant son during a Father's Day visit to their western New York home was sentenced Wednesday to life without the possibility of parole for his conviction on two counts of first-degree murder.
Bryan Ashline, 25, a Watervliet High school basketball standout, made no comment to Steuben County Judge Joseph W. Latham during his morning sentencing. He was convicted by a jury on Nov. 2 following a 10-day trial.
"I was not surprised he got life without parole on both counts of first-degree murder," Steuben County District Attorney John C. Tunney said later in the day. "It's a nice one to have behind me" he said of the case.
Ashline acknowledged during the trial that he killed Trieste Clayton, 25, and their son, Xavier, 3 months, on June 20, 2010, but maintained he was overcome by "extreme emotional disturbance," a psychiatric defense allowed in New York that, if successful, would have resulted in a conviction on a lesser charge of manslaughter. The jury discounted it and convicted him after less than three hours of deliberations.
On two counts of second-degree murder for which he also was convicted, Ashline received sentences of 25 years to life, all to run concurrently with the first-degree murder sentence, Tunney said. Ashline also was convicted of aggravated criminal contempt and criminal possession of a weapon.
"The bottom line is he is going to spend the rest of his life in prison," he said. "He's in forever."
Tunney, who prosecuted the case, said Ashline's attorney, Assistant Public Defendant Thomas Stahr, asked the judge for a sentence that would give his client some hope that he might be paroled someday.
Tunney told the court, "The only appropriate sentence that would adequately respond to what he did and protect the community was life without parole."
Cynthia Watson, Clayton's mother, gave a victim's statement in court. She was "emotional but composed," Tunney said, as she told the court her daughter was her best friend.
Ashline robbed Watson of her daughter, her best friend and her grandson, Tunney said.
Ashline's mother and at least one sister was in the courtroom for sentencing, the DA said.
He had been held without bail since his arrest by troopers around 5 a.m. June 21, 2010, as he slept in his car at a Unadilla, Otsego County, rest area on Interstate 88. He left the murder scene at the home of his former girlfriend in Bath a few hours earlier.
The 2010 Chevrolet Impala he had borrowed to drive from his Watervliet home to Bath was tracked by the car's OnStar vehicle security system.
Ashline testified at trial that he was holding the baby and intended to run out with the child, but, in an attempt to stop him, Clayton grabbed a paring knife, Tunney had said.
In the confrontation, Ashline testified he dropped the infant and that was so upsetting to him, he killed both the mother and child, Tunney said. Testimony showed he used a butcher knife from the kitchen to stab Clayton 13 times in the back and the infant three times in the chest and abdomen.
The couple met in the Capital Region in 2008. Clayton, a 2006 graduate of Alfred University with a psychology degree, relocated to the area from her small community in the Finger Lakes region.
In August 2009, Clayton obtained an order of protection against Ashline, her live-in boyfriend, because he was drunk and beat her, angry that she was pregnant. The next day, Clayton's family returned her from Watervliet to Bath. Clayton agreed to let Ashline see his son on Father's Day

Dad almost kills 15-month-old son during overnight visitation (Charlotte, North Carolina)
Once again, we see the folly in promoting visitation--especially overnight visitation--between never married sperm donors and babies and toddlers. Dad COREY JOHNSON almost killed this child, apparently while he was teething and cranky.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say 33-year-old Corey Johnson didn't spend a lot of time with his son, but their last visit almost cost the 15-month-old his life.
Police say that Johnson came to Monroe Sunday to pick up his son for an overnight visit. He took him to his Charlotte apartment and that's where investigators think abuse occurred.
Officers say the father told them and the mother that the child fell out of the bed, but his injuries were so serious that CMC Union had him airlifted to CMC main.
“This has broken our heart," said Suzy Rogers, a close friend of the victim's mother.
The child remains in critical but stable condition after suffering from bleeding on his brain and abdomen.
The parents aren't married and court records show that the father had only kept his son for three nights since birth. The mother says the child may have been teething when he was with his dad.
Rogers says the mother is an excellent parent and she feels for her.

PITTSBURG -- A 24-year-old Antioch father accused of fatally punching his 2-month-old son in the head in February was ordered Wednesday to stand trial on murder charges.
Sigifredo Lua was also held to answer on one count of felony child abuse for older injuries suffered by the infant, misdemeanor child abuse for allegedly slapping his older son in 2009 -- when that child was 2 months old -- and felony domestic violence for alleged abuse on the children's mother.
Lua, described by his former partner as having mood swings, told police that he hit the infant on the side of his head with a closed fist on Feb. 15 out of frustration with the baby's crying.
The infant, referred to in court as John Doe, died in his mother's arms at a hospital three days later. He had multiple skull fractures, a lacerated liver and broken ribs in various stages of healing, prosecutor Jason Peck said.
Lua first told police he slipped while holding the infant and that the child's head hit a couch armrest, officers testified. When asked to explain the baby's broken ribs, Lua said it must have been caused on a hot day -- in winter -- when both he and his son were sweaty, and he squeezed the infant's body to stop him from slipping out of his arms.

Police: Salinas Father, 24, Nearly Beat Baby To Death
POSTED: 10:58 am PST December 22, 2011
UPDATED: 4:48 pm PST December 23, 2011
SALINAS, Calif. -- A Salinas father was arrested Wednesday on suspicion that he nearly beat his infant son to death.
On Dec. 14, Salinas hospital workers alerted the Salinas Police Department that they were caring for an infant in the emergency room with "extremely serious head trauma," Sgt. Henry Gomez said.
The two-month-old baby had life-threatening injuries. Doctors determined that the baby's injuries were non-accidental and were likely shaken baby syndrome.
The beaten baby's father, Robert Goetze, 24, was arrested on child abuse and assault charges, Gomez said.
He was booked into the Monterey County Jail with bail set at $500,000.
On Friday, the baby was still in a Bay Area trauma center, Gomez said. Medical workers are required by law to notify law enforcement when they suspect domestic violence has happened.
There has been a disturbing number of suspected baby and child killings and beatings on the Central Coast in recent months.

In early December, a 2-year-old Castroville girl was beaten to death by her mother's boyfriend, deputies said. Pricilla Hernandez was found dead by authorities inside a house on McDougall Street.
David Lee Leonardo, 26, of Castroville, was arrested and charged with murder. Pricilla's mother was not home when her boyfriend killed her daughter, investigators said.
In September, a Greenfield woman's boyfriend beat her 10-month-old baby to death, police said.
Diego Burgos, 20, of Greenfield, had a history of attacking his girlfriend's infant until he ultimately killed him, prosecutors said.
Police arrested Burgos hours after the baby arrived at Standford hospital's trauma center. The baby survived for a few days, but despite doctors' efforts, he died.
The Greenfield baby's mother was pregnant with Burgos' unborn child until she had a miscarriage, and Burgos blamed her infant for causing her to have the miscarriage, prosecutors said.

Dad with history of violence abducts sick 20-month-old daughter during SUPERVISED visitation (Harris County, Texas)
This is why supervised visitation--with few exceptions--totally sucks and is a bad idea.
Dad GREGORY VINCENT DANIELS has a "history of violence" which is not explained in any detail here. But he was granted "supervised visitation" anyway, because daddies must have their rights.
Meanwhile, why is a 20-month-old baby with an upper respiratory infection, a double ear infection, pink eye, and a severe cough being dragged to Chuck E. Cheese's for "supervised" visitation with her criminal father? Why isn't she at home, in bed, and in the care of her mother? Oh right. Because this was court-ordered, and daddies must have their rights (see above). Sick kids don't have the right to stay home and sleep. Moms don't have the right to take care of their children as they see fit. Nope, the courts know better, and what they know always coincides with what Daddy demands. Such a surprise.
So whadya know. Apparently the "supervisor" fell asleep at the wheel--or s/he was a friend of Daddy's--because Daddy absconded with the sick baby. I don't suppose he'll be stopping at a pharmacy for a refill on her prescriptions now, do you? Think he'll be running a vaporizor for her or making her chicken soup? Only in your dreams....

Tasered dad who used 15-month-old son as shield during police standoff gets bail--and supervised visitation (Queensland, Australia)
This is daddy coddling/mother bashing at its highest level.
Frankly, UNNAMED DAD is a useless piece of sh**. This is the SECOND partner with whom he has violated a domestic violence order, and this is the SECOND time he has been tasered by the police.
He has a history of violence with his current partner, who got an order of protection after he assaulted her when she was six months pregnant.
And now this sh** is pulling all the stops on the Daddy Drama crap--and then some. He apparently got drunk and assaulted Mom (since she has a visible bruise on her temple). He then took the baby and used him as a human shield in a standoff with local police. He ASSAULTED A POLICE OFFICER and charged four others.
And yet the magistrate granted this sh** bail--"so he can return home for Christmas." And he gets supervised visitation with the child he used as a shield with police! Great! Let's force more trauma on this little boy! Let's make his safety contingent on whether some nitwit social worker feels like doing his or her job.
Meanwhile, Mom, who is rightfully terrified of retribution, does not have custody of her son. Even though she was the one who had a protection order violated, and there are NO ACCUSATIONS of wrong doing on her part. So why does she have supervised visitation as well?
This shows the real double standard when it comes to men and women, and how male criminals are often treated BETTER than the female victims. Sickening.

Taser dad's violent past
ROANNE JOHNSON December 21st, 2011A FATHER tasered while clutching his baby son to his chest, allegedly as a shield, was granted bail yesterday so he can return home for Christmas.
But it won't be a festive family reunion for the 36-year-old well-known Ingham business owner - after his 15-week old baby was seized by the Department for Child Safety and his 28-year-old defacto partner left him.
Child Safety took the baby just hours after being advised of the weekend's "alleged alcohol-fuelled domestic violence" incident in which the father is accused of picking up the child so "police would not shoot him" - then punching a policeman several times to the head and repeatedly charging at four officers.
At 3am on Saturday, December 17, police tasered the man while he was holding the child, who was not injured. The mother packed her bags and left the shared home immediately afterwards and she is now residing in Townsville awaiting the return of her baby, with whom she can have only supervised contact.
The woman, who has a visible bruise to her temple and is "in fear of retribution", plans to move down south with her family, as it wasn't the first time her partner has allegedly been violent towards her and the child.
He is also accused of breaching a domestic violence order, put in place on June 3 this year in Ingham Magistrates Court, for assaulting her when she was six months' pregnant while they walked home from a local restaurant.
Magistrate Peter Smid recognised the defendant from a different domestic violence order breach against another woman. He was tasered after a 2010 incident incident involving his former partner and their two young children.
"I have a sense of deja vu about you - because back then you also had a similar practice of hanging your head in shame and that's how I recognise you," Mr Smid said.
"You don't fool me because I know what sort of person you are - you are a violent person at times."
The magistrate granted the man bail for the sake of his business, with defence lawyer Tara Payne submitting it would suffer considerably over the busy festive period.
The man has been bailed until January 23, 2012, on five charges including endangering a child by exposure, breaching a domestic violence order, assault or obstruct police, serious assault and wilful damage.
Mr Smid did not impose an alcohol ban, despite police prosecutor Colleen Wainwright submitting "he is a nice man until he drinks", but ordered he have no contact with the mother. he is allowed supervised contact with his son.

Dad raped 9-year-old daughter during his child access time; abuse not caught till she developed STD (Bristol, England)
UNNAMED DAD finally admitted he raped his 9-year-old daughter during his visitation time--but ONLY AFTER the medical evidence implicated him.

Bristol man's rape of daughter, 9, revealed by STD
Tuesday, December 20, 2011 Bristol Evening Post
A FATHER'S rape and sexual abuse of his nine-year-old daughter was uncovered after she caught his sexual disease.
He carried out a series of sickening attacks on the girl at his home, in some woods and at Blaise Castle estate, Bristol Crown Court was told.
The man from north west Bristol, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to six charges of sexually assaulting a child aged under 13, two charges of causing or inciting a girl aged under 16 to engage in sexual activity and a single count of rape yesterday, as he was about to face a trial.
A judge jailed him for nine years.
The court heard the 33-year-old, who lived in Horfield before his arrest, was frequently drunk when he had access to the child.
It was around her ninth birthday when he groped her, forced her to touch him improperly and raped her.
Kerry Barker, prosecuting, said the victim's parents had separated and her mother had custody of the child, with the father having occasional contact.
In August 2009, Mr Barker said, the girl was diagnosed with genital warts. At first she denied anyone had touched her. But in December last year she told her mother she had been sexually abused and police were called.
The child told officers some of the abuse occurred during visits to parkland at Blaise Castle estate, some in woods and some at her father's flat.
The father was arrested and initially denied the abuse, claiming other children would have been present when he saw her.
He also volunteered his medical records and agreed to a medical examination, the court heard.
But when he was examined in January this year he was diagnosed with the same genital virus as contracted by the girl.
Mr Barker said: "The court would have heard from (the girl), her mother and the defendant's father.
"Evidence also included the defendant allowing (the girl) to see pornography in his care.
"(The girl) has undergone treatment for warts and they are slowly dissipating."
Tabitha Macfarlane, defending, said her client had only petty violence on his criminal record.
She said: "He has suffered from alcohol misuse. He acknowledges he has acted in a way that has caused his family great harm.
"He has fractured his family beyond any recovery, with no hope of going back."
Miss Macfarlane said her client would not cope well in prison and had requested that he be put in a safe place.
She said: "(The girl) would have been incredibly upset had this matter been contested.
"This is a very sad day for him."
Jailing the man, Judge Michael Roach told him: "These are dreadful offences. What can be said on your behalf is you avoided this little girl giving evidence. That would have been a traumatic thing for her to do.
"You've put her through considerable trauma already."
The judge ordered the abuser to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
Afterwards Detective Constable Phil Osborne said: "This was a very difficult case for all involved.
"The outcome is, hopefully, one that will allow the victim and her family to move on.
"The child abuse investigation team will always pursue allegations of this nature and this conviction demonstrates that."

Custodial dad accused of severely abusing children, deliberately burning them (Harfield County, Maryland)
Custodial dad STEVEN KENNETH HELGASON has an extensive history of domestic violence and child abuse. So it's no big surprise that he was torturing these kids (torching them with flaming aersosol cans) for his own sadistic kicks. This is what abusers do. AND THIS IS WHY THEY WANT AND DEMAND CUSTODY. So they can keep the pipeline of victims flowing.
I'm disappointed that this reporter suggests as "fact" that the mother willingly walked out on these kids. She doesn't report her source for this information, but I suppose that's what Daddy told the police and the kids, so it's assumed to be true. More often than not, it's a lie. I can't tell you how often I've seen the "mom walked out" story reported as fact, only to find out with subsequent research that Mom was stripped of custody by a corrupt, fathers-rights/abuser-friendly court system. On occasion, these mothers have actually contacted me to set the record straight. In a few cases they were severely beaten and driven away with threats of death if they returned. Then there are the cases where Mom mysteriously "disappeared"--we're told she had supposedly "run off" with some "boyfriend" that nobody remembers her mentioning in any way, shape, or form. And wouldn't you know. No one had actually seen or heard from Mom for years (meaning Daddy hid the body extraordinarily well). Do you really think a guy who torches kids for fun is beyond homicide?

Alert Hairstylist in Abingdon Finds Signs of Child Abuse and Reports It
Gretta DeMennato, Harford County Gifted Children Examiner
December 20, 2011
When a child sits in the hair chair there is some anxiety on both parts - the stylist and the customer. The stylist had no idea that when a pair of young boys came to the Sports Clips in Abingdon that she would find evidence of child abuse, but she did.
While cutting one of the boys' hair, the stylist found evidence that the boy's hair had been burned. Instead of keeping quiet, she informed authorities.
Upon investigation by the Harford County Sheriff's it was discovered that these boys and one other sibling had been suffering terrible abuse at the hands of their father - Steven Kenneth Helgason (44) of Whiteford.
Reports state that Helgason allegedly used aersol cans of deodorant and a lighter to scorch his children. According to reports, Helgason could have burned his children using this method as many as 100 times or more.
One of the children also told authorities that their father once held one of the children upside down and stripped the child naked. In the charging documents it is also stated that one of the older children was ordered by his father to burn his siblings in a similar manner.
Harford County State’s Attorney Joseph Cassilly stated that the motive Helgason had for burning his children is not yet known to investigators.
Cassilly further stated to ABC2News that, "It's very strange. It's not clear, but it does not appear this was an issue of discipline or excess discipline or anything like that,” said Cassilly, “These allegations are very unusual, and that's one of the main reasons we asked for no bond."
In a common theme when it comes to child abusse, this is not Helgason first brush with authorities and child abuse charges. He has a story of prior child abuse incidents and domestic violence charges. Helgason's wife sought divorce from him but, left the seven children to remain in his custody.
"Any child abuse case is troubling, but given the number of children that were involved here, this is certainly something that's very upsetting, because hopefully the mother will get re-engaged in some of this,” Cassilly told ABC2News, “They were separated so what knowledge she had isn't clear and I don't think we've finished our investigation to that point yet."
The children have been placed in protective custody by Social Services during this holiday season. Helgason, their father, remains in the Harford County Detention Center with no bond.

Dad in "custody battle" murders 10-year-old son, 9-year-old daughter, and their mother (Accomack County, Virginia)
Once again, we see that for violent fathers, a child custody "battle" is only a way to continue harassing, threatening, and hurting their family. It has nothing to do with wanting "quality time" with their kids. Because honestly, they don't care if the kids are alive or dead--so long as Daddy is in charge. In fact, I think a lot of these dudes get a sick pleasure out of choosing when or if their so-called loved ones will have a life or not. They crave the final Daddy Drama bloodbath demonstrating Daddy's domination over their very existence. Daddy ESTEBAN QUINTERO-GONZALES shot his kids to death, and then their mother--just so he could show everybody that Daddy's in Charge and that he can do whatever he wants.

Dad convicted of killing mom--with 4-year-old son clinging to mom and begging dad not to kill her (St. Louis, Missouri)
Studies show that fathers who are the most unrelenting in their pursuit of child custody are disproportionately violent and abusive. Don't believe me? Meet dad MELVIN PATTON.
Dad had battled Mom for years over child custody--and this siege was obviously just a way to continue his overal campaign of abuse and control. This piece of sh** was hardly considering the best interests of his child when he shot Mom to death--with their 4-year-old son clinging to her and begging him not to kill Mommy. Daddy also murdered the maternal uncle.
This is pure fathers rights-inspired entitlement. Women and children are nothing but chattel posssessions to these guys, to abuse or use as they wish.

Melvin Patton: Convicted of Killing His Ex In Front of Their Child
By Chad Garrison Fri., Dec. 16 2011 at 7:48 AM
A St. Louis jury yesterday convicted Melvin Patton of two counts of first-degree murder for the killings of 24-year-old Keneka Elliott and her 29-year-old brother Julius Elliott.
Patton, 26, wore a mask when he burst into a home in south St. Louis in April 2010 and shot the victims in front of his then 4-year-old son and other children. A third woman was also shot in the melee but survived.
Prosecutors say that Patton's son begged to no avail for his father to spare the lives of his mother and uncle.
Just prior to the shooting the boy latched onto his mother, reportedly crying "Daddy please don't kill Mommy!" Patton responded "shut up" and pulled the trigger, according to prosecutors.
Family members testified in trial that Elliot and Patton had battled over custody for years and that Patton sent a text message promising to "kill anyone to get my son."
He'll be sentenced in January and is expected to get life without the possibility of parole.

Rapist dad dad sentenced to less than 3 years in prison, though "fathered" three children with daughter (Nuremberg, Germany)

'It wasn't rape': German father who slept with his daughter 500 times from the age of 12 is jailed for less than THREE YEARS
Fathered three children during illicit relationship
Threatened to 'kill her if she told anyone'

A German father who slept with his daughter over 500 times and produced three incest children was jailed for less than three years on Monday after a court declared he did not rape her.
A judge in the case of Adolf B., 69, stunned female and child protection rights groups by declaring that his sexual relationship with his daughter over 30 years was 'by agreement' - even though he first molested her when she was only 12-years-old.
He was accused of brutalising his wife and children, stunning them into a long-term conspiracy of silence. But the judge threw out the rape charge and sentenced him to just two years and eight months in jail for incest.
Prosecutors at the court in Nuremberg had demanded a 14 year sentence for the ordeal he inflicted on his daughter Renate.
In the media he was called the 'German Fritzl' in reference to the Austrian rapist Josef Fritzl who imprisoned his daughter Elisabeth for 24 years and fathered six incest children with her.
Adolf B. was charged with 497 rapes committed over 34 years until his arrest in March this year. His daughter, now 46, had three children by him, two of whom have since died.
'She liked it,' he said of his sexual relationship with her although Renate testified otherwise. She said he threatened to kill her if she told anyone about what happened between them.
She told the court; 'He said; 'Tell a soul and I will kill you. No matter where you go I will find you and kill you.'
The German woman lived in the family home along with her mother and siblings in Willmersbach, a village near Nuremberg.
She spoke of constant beatings, with all members of the family subjected to a routing of aggression and fear.
A prosecutor told the the Nuremberg-Fürth regional court: 'She had three sons by her father, one of whom died as a baby, another of whom died recently, while the third survived.'
Authorities only uncovered the case after the woman was convicted of blackmailing the wife of a doctor she blamed for the disability of one of her sons. She was assigned a parole officer who won her trust and eventually heard her story.
A spokeswoman for a rape crisis centre in Berlin said; 'This is a shocking judgement, for the woman (Adolf's wife and daughter), for women everywhere and for justice. What was this judge thinking? That a 12-year-old girl can make these kinds of choices?'

Drunk dad charged with neglect after 2-year-old son found a quarter mile from home (Brooksville, Florida)
I see no evidence that there was a mother in this home. Did dad RYAN CARTIER have custody, visitation, what? As we often see, the media is extraordinarily vague about what was going on here. A "family member" later "took custody" of the kids? And who was that?

BROOKSVILLE A man was charged Saturday morning with child neglect following allegations he let his 2-year-old son wander from his home.
The boy was discovered by a resident who was driving in the area of Heather Boulevard and Galloway Road, which was about a quarter-mile from the child's home, and authorities were called, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said the boy's father, Ryan Cartier, 27, was awakened by his 5-year-old son and told his youngest son was missing.
A responding deputy saw Cartier by the road, approached him and noticed he was intoxicated, according to an arrest affidavit.
Cartier told the sheriff's office he was out drinking the night before and took something before going to sleep, deputies said.
A family member arrived that morning and took custody of both children, according to the sheriff's office.
Cartier was booked at 10:30 a.m. at the Hernando County Jail. His bail was set at $5,000.

LAKEVILLE, Minn. (AP) - A father accused of punching his 14-year-old son following a basketball game in Lakeville is facing additional charges.
The Dakota County Attorney has charged 52-year-old Steven Ohara Wilson, of Eagan, with malicious punishment of a child and child neglect, both gross misdemeanors. The Lakeville city attorney had previously charged Wilson with misdemeanor domestic assault.
A criminal complaint says Wilson yelled at the boy and pushed him into a wall in the hallway of Lakeville South High School Dec. 10 following an eighth-grade game. The complaint says other parents intervened when the father hit his son several times in the head and upper body and the boy fought back.
A coach told investigating officers Wilson had previously been thrown out of a sporting event for yelling and swearing profusely.
Wilson earlier deferred comment to his attorney, who did not immediately return a call Monday.

Five-year-old son "disappeared" during dad's visitation back in 2008; shrink argues that dad incompetent to stand trial (Lynn, Massachusetts)
We've been following this case for years now. Off the record, dad ERNESTO GONZALEZ has confessed to killing his son during his visitation time. But the body has never been found. It's not like we don't know this guy is violent (he assaulted another guy in jail). But a shrink is arguing that he's incompetent to stand trial. Right....

Lynn father's competency in question

SALEM —The Lynn father who is charged with misleading investigators about his missing son, last seen more than three years ago, refused yesterday to talk to a court staff psychologist.
Ernesto Gonzalez, 39, was in Salem District Court in a separate case stemming from a violent and unprovoked attack on a cellmate at Middleton Jail in October, an assault that left the other inmate with severe eye damage.
Despite a notation on the court docket indicating that he had previously been arraigned, that proceeding had not taken place, after Gonzalez's new attorney raised concerns about his competency.
A court psychologist had been set to meet with the suspect yesterday morning, but after Gonzalez refused to speak to him, his lawyer asked to postpone the arraignment again.
Judge Sabita Singh denied the request and arraigned Gonzalez.
Defense lawyer Russell Sobelman said that on Thursday Gonzalez did sit down for two hours with a defense-hired psychologist, Dr. Robert Joss, who concluded that he is not competent to stand trial in either the Lynn or Middleton Jail cases.
During a hearing earlier this month in Salem Superior Court in the case involving his son, Gonzalez yelled out, "I want to plead guilty," before being led out of the courtroom.
Gonzalez was the last person seen with 5-year-old Giovanni, his son with Daisy Colon, during a weekend visitation at his Lynn apartment in August 2008.

Dad strangles 1-year-old son to death (Nakonde, Nambia)
The U.S. and Zambia are very different countries with very different cultures. And yet remarkably the same. Where ever you go, violent control-freak fathers kill their children to get "revenge" against their partners for leaving them or "betraying" them in some fashion. This is far more common with fathers than mothers, despite popular myths to the contrary.
Fathers rights people will often argue that fathers are "naturally" protective of their own biological offspring, which is nonsense. Notice that dad JOSEPH SICHONE deliberately targeted his biological son, and left his step daughter alone. Maybe because he felt more "entitled" to kill the boy, just to show the mom that Daddy's Not Happy about her alleged transgressions.

A father in Nakonde strangles his biological son to death

POLICE in Nakonde district of Muchinga province have arrested a 37 year old man for allegedly killing his one year old biological child.
According to police sources, the accused Joseph Sichone of Katozi village in chieftainess Waitwika’s area, has been on separation with his wife for more than a week.
Sources said Sichone got a rumour that his wife has been having an affair with another man within the same village.
Sichone is alleged to have strangled his son to death whom he found playing with his three year old elder sister.
The source said Sichone sent the girl to the market to go and buy biscuits before strangling the boy to death.
When the mother to the boy returned from wherever she had gone, she found him bleeding profusely from the nose.
Neighbours told the mother to the deceased toddler that they heard the baby crying inside the house immediately after his father entered the room were he was.
They added that immediately the boy stopped crying, they saw his father walking out and disappearing.
They said this made the people in the entire neighborhood suspicious that Sichone was the one who could have killed the child. Members of the public immediately set out to look for Sichone whom they later found and handed over to the police.
The self-confessing muderer has stunned people when he asked them why they got so concerned when in fact the person he killed is his own biological child and that he spared the other child because she is not his biological child.
This also angered everyone including the onlookers who immediately descended on him and forced him to take the dead body to the police station. The body of the toddler is currently laying in the mortuary awaiting a postmortem. Efforts to get a comment from Muchinga Police Commissioner failed.

Dad held for "head butting" 7-week-old daughter could be released on bail (Peabody, Massachusetts)
Dad RICHARD ELIAS only babysat his 7-week-old daughter twice, but that was enough to give her severe brain injuries and fractured ribs. He has already confessed to "head butting" and violently shaking her.
Daddy's lawyer is blaming it on PTSD, which is total bull****.

Father charged with 'head butting' infant remains held

PEABODY — The Peabody father charged with shaking and head-butting his 7-week-old daughter in October could seek release on bail at his next court appearance, his lawyer suggested during a hearing yesterday.
Richard Elias, 22, pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault and battery on a child causing substantial bodily injury during his arraignment yesterday in Salem Superior Court.
The baby, Isabella, who suffered severe injuries, including some brain death, has been discharged from the hospital, said prosecutor Kate MacDougall. Her long-term prognosis is still unclear, but she is expected to be blind and will likely suffer from severe developmental issues.
Elias allegedly confessed to shaking the child, triggering seizures, while caring for her while his wife was out picking up her other children. Two weeks later, as his wife attended a Halloween party — her first night out since giving birth in September — Elias confessed to shaking and "head butting" the infant, triggering more seizures.
He also allegedly squeezed the infant hard enough to break ribs, MacDougall said.
Elias's wife is now seeking a divorce, the prosecutor said.
Elias had been held without bail as a danger to the child and the public but yesterday, MacDougall opted instead to ask for a high cash bail of $75,000.
MacDougall said she was concerned a dangerousness finding and detention order would expire before the complex case was ready to be tried.
But Elias's attorney, Mark Schmidt, asked Judge Timothy Feeley for more time to prepare a bail argument in the case.
Feeley agreed to set the $75,000 bail requested by MacDougall without prejudice, so Schmidt could return to court at a future hearing and argue for lower bail.
Schmidt said in court yesterday that his client, who served as a Marine in Germany and Iraq, suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, which is likely to be an issue raised again in his defense.
A pre-trial hearing, and possibly a new bail argument, is set for Jan. 30.
If convicted, Elias faces up to 15 years in prison on each of the two counts against him.

BOISE, Idaho — A southwest Idaho man remains jailed on $1 million bond while authorities investigate the homicidal death of his infant son.
The Ada County coroner reported Monday the baby boy, Adrien Sanchez, died Saturday of blunt force trauma to the head and his death was a homicide. Authorities say the baby was born Sept. 20 and fatally injured late last week while in the care of his father.
Jail records show 19-year-old Reynaldo "Lucas" Sanchez remains held on suspicion of felony injury to a child.
Authorities say Sanchez called neighbors in Boise early Friday to say his son had fallen out of an infant bouncy seat. The neighbors then called 911. The infant was first taken to a Meridian hospital and then to St. Luke's in Boise, where he died.

Family, prosecutor say abused child not likely to survive

A 4-month-old Canton boy isn’t expected to survive injuries that led to criminal charges against his father, who has admitted he “messed up bad” following allegations he pushed the infant’s head against the floor of a residence on Michigan Avenue near Sheldon.
Sal Alongi, the maternal grandfather of little Hunter Sewejkis, said doctors have indicated to family members that the child isn’t expected to live.
“Hunter right now is still clinging to life,” Alongi said Monday morning, standing outside a 35th District courtroom, but “he is not expected to survive.”
He spoke moments before a preliminary exam for defendant Anthony Lawrence Sewejkis, 25, was adjourned until Jan. 5.
Inside the courtroom, Lora Weingarden, a lead attorney for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, made statements similar to those of Alongi. She told Judge Ronald Lowe that Hunter isn’t likely to survive and that, if he dies, higher charges will be sought against Sewejkis.
Alongi said young Hunter’s family has kept vigil at the University of Michigan Hospital, where the boy was taken from another hospital after authorities say he was abused on the night of Dec. 7 while Sewejkis was home alone with the infant.
“We’ve been through all kinds of emotions,” Alongi said. “We’ve been standing by the hospital bed, praying and hoping for the best. We’re praying for a miracle.”
Alongi, father of the boy’s mother, Leanne Garlick, described her as “not well” and said she was stunned by what authorities say happened.
“She had no idea that (Sewejkis) was capable of anything like this,” Alongi said.
Hunter has undergone surgeries to alleviate swelling after he suffered a fractured skull, and Alongi said the child has survived the last few days because doctors have used life-supporting machines to keep him alive.
“We’re going to follow this through to the end,” Alongi said, adding that he had only one wish for Sewejkis: “Rot in hell.”
Standing not far from Alongi, Kim Belmont, Sewejkis’ aunt, said she and other relatives also are asking for prayers. “We believe in miracles,” she said.
Sewejkis already has been charged with first-degree child abuse, and he could face 15 years in prison if he is convicted of that charge. Belmont said she doesn’t believe Sewejkis would intentionally hurt Hunter.
“He’s very scared,” Belmont said of Sewejkis. “He’s very worried about his son. He loves his son very much. He would trade places with him in a minute.”
Sewejkis kept his right hand over his face much of the time as he sat in court Monday morning, dressed in a green jail uniform.
His preliminary exam — a hearing to decide if he should stand trial in Wayne County Circuit Court — was adjourned until Jan. 5 after defense attorney Dennis Shrewsbury said he needed time to review evidence related to the case.
Sewejkis broke into tears during his Dec. 9 video arraignment in front of 35th District Judge James Plakas.
“I messed up bad,” said Sewejkis, who was jailed with a $500,000 cash bond.
Canton police had received a phone call from a hospital about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, that it appeared Hunter had been abused.
“It has been alleged that (Sewejkis) caused a fracture to the skull of his son by pushing his head to the floor,” Detective Tim Wright said during the arraignment.
Wright said a prior referral had been made to Child Protective Services.
The mother wasn’t at home when the incident occurred.

DETROIT - A Michigan father who let his 9-year-old daughter drive because he had been drinking has pleading guilty to second-degree child and allowing an unlicensed minor to operate a motor vehicle.
Shawn Weimer's daughter has testified about driving her father's van in the wee hours of Oct. 8. She said she agreed to drive but felt a “little scared” when her dad consumed half a bottle of whiskey.
Surveillance video from a Citgo gas station on Telegraph Road shows Weimer explaining to the clerk that his daughter was his designated driver for the night.
"I got, I got a designated driver," he said. "Nine years old. Nine!"
Weimer told the clerk his daughter is a good driver and that she was driving him around because he was drunk.
"She drives us here. I swear to you. Nine years old. In the truck. We're here. She drove all the way here," he said.
The girl can be heard on the video saying, "And I parked."
Someone called police after spotting the pair stopped at the gas station.
Weimer was arrested after police in Brownstown Township stopped the van and found the girl behind the wheel.
He is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 23.

Nine!"

Dad raped daughter during visitations (Northland, New Zealand)
Note that this rapist UNNAMED DAD carried out his crimes during his visitation time. Who granted this father visitation? Was their prior evidence of abuse that the courts swept under the rug?

'Evil' dad who raped daughter jailed

A Far North man has been jailed for 11 years after he was found guilty of raping and indecently assaulting his daughter.
Passing sentence in the Kaikohe District Court on Friday, Judge John McDonald said the crimes were a serious breach of trust.
"She should have expected love and protection from you, that you would protect her from the evils of the world - instead you were the evil," he said.
The man, who cannot be named because that would identify the victim, was found guilty in a jury trial in October of nine charges of unlawful sexual connection, two of indecent assault and one of rape.
The charges related to six incidents in Kaeo, Auckland and Paihia, the first when the girl was 8 years old, the last six to seven years later. Most occurred when the victim was visiting her father in Northland for holidays and long weekends.During the trial the man maintained his daughter was making up the allegations to get back at him for disapproving of a young man she was seeing, and telling her off for bunking school.
The jury, however, believed the girl's word over her father's, Judge McDonald said.
While there was no overt or gratuitous violence, all but the first incident involved planning and premeditation, and the victim's age made her vulnerable.
The offending was a serious breach of trust and had caused her serious harm, which was clear from her victim impact statement.
"She states that she hates you, and never wants to see you again," the judge told the defendant.
He was sentenced to 11 years in jail with a minimum five-year non-parole period. The judge also imposed a protection order for the victim and her mother.

System fails mom; dad with history of DV gets visitation rights, murders mom during child pickup (Old Bridge, New Jersey)
This was no mysterious "tragedy" with a "perfect couple." That's just the same old bullcrap that's attached to all these cases, and it only works for stupid people in denial. The facts: dad ANTHONY TRAPP had a long history of domestic violence. And Mom's efforts to get obtain safety for herself and her children through the legal system were totally stymied . So now Mom is dead, and two young children are left motherless and traumatized by senseless Daddy Drama.
Who was judge who refused to let Mom relocate?
Was it the same judge who refused her an order of protection 3 TIMES?
Was it the same judge who gave this violent batterer visitation rights?
Because, Daddy got them. So much for daddies being discriminated against, eh? And as it turned out, Trapp slaughtered Mom when she arrrived to pick up the kids. This is not the first time a mom has been slaughtered by a violent father who was granted visitation/custodial rights. This is the not the first time a mother has been put in harm's way during child pickups and drop offs. It's not even the first case of a mother being murdered during a child pickup and dropoff. And yet these father-friendly judges continue this practice without one iota of concern for the safety and well-being of women and children. It's only about what Daddy Demands--thanks to the victory of the fathers rights movement.

Tragedy was waiting to erupt, friends and family say of Old Bridge couple slain in murder-suicide

OLD BRIDGE — They appeared to be the perfect suburban couple, smiling for the camera on their tree-lined street in Old Bridge three years ago as they hugged their 2-year-old daughter dressed up like Minnie Mouse for Halloween.
"Great family pic ..." a friend commented on Facebook.
But interviews with friends and neighbors, as well as court records, show that beneath the smiles and away from the cameras, things were far different for Anthony and Heather Trapp.
They had a volatile and violent relationship that prompted Heather Trapp to twice file for divorce, obtain three restraining orders against her husband and attempt to return to her mother’s home on Staten Island, only to be rebuffed by a judge.
Heather Trapp, 37, was found dead Thursday evening inside the Rose Lane home the couple had shared until about about four months ago. She had been stabbed multiple times, authorities said Friday, allegedly by her husband who then abducted their daughters and fled north.
Early Friday, Anthony Trapp, 39, and his daughters were located at a hotel in Fort Montgomery, N.Y., 80 miles from Old Bridge.
The girls were unharmed when they were coaxed out of the open door of their father’s room around 7:30 a.m. by some of the dozens of New York state troopers who had surrounded the five-room motel. Their father was later found dead inside the room.
Police believe he had already killed himself when Emma, now 5, the toddler wearing the mouse ears and polka dot dress in the Halloween photo, opened the door, New York State Police Maj. Ed Raso said.
"We were able to motion to her, and she came out," followed moments later by her 20-month-old sister, Sophia, he said.
Members of the state police special operations team scooped them up, wrapped them in blankets and carried them to safety before they were placed in the temporary custody of relatives.
Police then spent more than an hour trying to communicate with Trapp by phone and bullhorn. At 8:40, troopers entered the room and found Trapp, 39, dead on a bed, Capt. Joseph Tripodo said.
Authorities said he apparently killed himself; they didn’t release details but said he didn’t shoot himself. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
A MOTHER'S CONCERN
Over the past few months, Heather Trapp’s mother told friends she feared for her daughter’s safety.
"He is sick in the head ... I don’t know what to do," Fran Newman, Heather’s mother, said in August, according to Lorraine Gerbino, a lifelong friend. "I’m scared for my daughter. Pray for her.
"... She knew he was going to kill her — and so did Heather," Gerbino said Friday, breaking down in tears. "Heather said to friends he was going to kill her, and he did."
Few people in Middlesex County took the threats seriously, Newman told friends.
"I guess my daughter would have to be killed for someone to say, ‘Oh, I guess she was right,’" she said in one e-mail to Gerbino.
In another, she wrote, "The laws in Middlesex County are not great for domestic violence. I don’t want my daughter to be a statistic."
Unlimited Exposures
Heather and Anthony Trapp were married in October 2004.
The couple married on Oct. 8, 2004, in Livingston, and separated at least six months before Heather Trapp filed for divorce on Aug. 23, citing irreconcilable differences, court records show.
In her petition, she sought joint legal custody of the two girls, alimony and child support, court records show. She also noted that three restraining orders were filed against her husband this year — the first on March 28 and the others on Aug. 18 — but all were dismissed.
Public records show the Trapps purchased their home on Rose Lane in Old Bridge in August 2004, two months before they married. Heather lived there until August, when she moved to a townhouse on Pendleton Place in Old Bridge, about 3 1/2 miles away.
Heather Trapp was a licensed dental hygienist in Florida, New Jersey and New York. A slight woman with a vibrant personality, she dazzled patients with her ability to always remember a face, friends said. She beamed when talking about her daughters.
But according to co-workers, she lived in fear of her 6-foot, 4-inch husband.
"She was very, very afraid," said Elizabeth Klein, a hygienist in the Old Bridge dental office where Heather Trapp worked part time.
Klein said the Trapps’ marriage had been rocky for years. Several years ago, she said, the couple sought counseling and were urged to resolved their problems. The physical abuse became worse after Anthony Trapp became ill and lost his job, Klein said.
Police said Anthony Trapp had visitation of his daughters on Thursday and when his estranged wife when to pick them up, he attacked her.
After not hearing from her and concerned about Heather Trapp’s safety, a relative phoned police at 8:55 p.m. Thursday. Police arrived at the Rose Lane home and found her dead in the kitchen. She had been stabbed multiple times, authorities said.
Police issued an Amber Alert for the two girls and eventually traced them and their father to the motel in Orange County, N.Y.
"I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE SOMETHING LIKE THIS"
Anthony Dalessio and his family live across the street from the Trapp home on Rose Lane, and said he and his wife were Heather’s "best friends in the neighborhood," but acknowledged the couple was "definitely having problems."
The Dalessios were at a Christmas party Thursday night when they got calls that police cars were everywhere in the neighborhood, he said.
"I can’t even imagine something like this," Dalessio said. "I’ve been up all night.
"She would do anything for her children," Dalessio said of Heather Trapp. "Thank God they’re safe. Now we have to grieve one of our best friends."
Anthony Trapp had been out of work since December 2009, when he was fired from his job at Societe Generale Americas Securities, where he had worked as a senior auditor for three years.
Trapp filed suit against the company, claiming he was unlawfully fired and discriminated against because of an ongoing disability, according to court papers. Trapp said he was diagnosed in 2008 with Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder affecting connective tissues that forced him to undergo open-heart surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm.
Trapp claimed in his suit that when he returned to work after the surgery, his supervisors and colleagues began a continuous campaign of insulting, harassing and giving him unwarranted negative performance reviews. He said his complaints of harassment to supervisors went unheeded — describing in court papers how co-workers would taunt him with insults like ‘you cry more than your daughter’ and ‘stop being a baby’ or teasing him about working a half-day when he left early for medical reasons.
He was fired, he claimed, after a company attorney confronted him and claimed Marfan syndrome was "not a real disorder" and that none of Trapp’s allegations of harassment was substantiated, according to court papers.
The suit claimed Trapp was shocked and devastated by his treatment, had suffered loss of self-confidence and self-esteem and was forced to see a therapist for depression and severe emotional distress. He said his wife had filed for divorce due to the economic harm inflicted on the family by his job loss.
The company denied Trapp’s allegations.

What drives a father to kill?
After the shocking Pudsey case in which a father murdered his whole family, Dr Max Pemberton investigates the psychology behind 'family annihilation'.
7:00AM GMT 17 Dec 2011
They were described as the perfect family: Richard and Clair, married for 13 years and with two sons, Aaron aged one and Ben, nine. Only a few weeks ago they’d posed for a family portrait and smiling into the camera they appear the epitome of a happy suburban family. Friends said that they seemed to have no problems. They had bought their house, in a quiet cul-de-sac in Pudsey, near Leeds, last May and had no money worries. No one could begin to imagine the truly horrendous events that would befall them.
Now, outside the police cordon surrounding their home, people console each other and lay flowers in remembrance. There are touching tributes from friends attached to the bouquets. ‘You were such a beautiful family’ reads one. ‘RIP all of you in heaven’ reads another. Neighbours shake their head in disbelief. In the early hours of last Saturday morning, Richard stabbed his wife and two young children on the marital bed, before setting fire to the room. He died of smoke inhalation. Detectives believe he may have been having an affair and that this may have been a factor in the tragedy. But what drives an otherwise good, upstanding man to kill his whole family?
Of all crimes, a parent killing a child must surely be one of the most harrowing and perplexing. It goes against our very understanding of the role of a parent as the ultimate protector. And yet it happens. Just days before horror in Pudsey, another father reportedly turned on his family. Tobias Day, from Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, had recently lost his job as a policeman. He killed his wife Samantha and his seven-year-old daughter Genevieve and attacked his two other children, Kimberly and Adam, before taking his own life.
To try and understand this phenomenon, it is first important to put child homicide into context. Although these instances are rare, crime figures show that a child is more likely to be murdered by their parent than by a stranger. This means that, statistically, it is more dangerous to leave a child with your spouse than it is to leave them with someone you’ve never met. While the number of child homicides fluctuates each year, the overall child homicide rate in England and Wales has remained broadly similar since 1997. However, in recent years from 2005/06 the numbers have dipped below 60 for the first time. This still means that, according to the NSPCC, on average a child is killed by a parent every 10 days.
However, a further analysis of the statistics reveals interesting differences between the genders. While mothers are responsible for killing children in roughly as many cases as fathers, the circumstances are typically very different. This gives an important insight into what drives a man to murder his family.
According to a Home Office report into child homicides, the proportion of child homicides in which the perpetrator is a parent is exceptionally high among infants – roughly 80 per cent of homicide victims under one year old were killed by a parent. In these very young children women are far more likely to be the perpetrators of infanticide than men. However, research has shown that these women typically have severe, undiagnosed or untreated mental illness, often triggered by the birth.
So, postnatal depression or postpartum psychosis – whereby the mother becomes psychotic after the birth of their child – are felt to be significant factors. This has been recognised for many years in UK legislation with the Infanticide Act (1938), which allows such mothers to be dealt with and punished as if guilty of manslaughter rather than murder.
Of course, mental health problems during or after pregnancy are not uncommon. Research has shown that up to 80 per cent of women experience some degree of depressive illness after giving birth and that new mothers are 25 times more likely to become psychotic within the first month. The vast majority of these women will never harm their baby. But the association is there and, as a result, there has been a drive to screen all new mothers for signs of mental illness and offer intensive support after the birth. Midwives are now specifically trained to ask about a patient’s mental health and to spot any worrying behaviour.
Older children, however, are more likely to be killed by their father and there is often little or no evidence that such men have an identifiable mental illness. We can take some small comfort from the idea that such instances are rare adorations; temporary losses of sanity. Something hideous done in the heat of the moment when someone is not themselves and cannot be held accountable for their actions. This provides a framework in which we can explain the inexplicable. It’s convenient and reassuring. But in many cases, it is not true. Researchers point to the fact that they are virtually all premeditated and typically executed with a chilling calmness and sense of purpose. This is particularly true in the case of ’family annihilations’ as they are referred to by psychiatrists, where the father not only kills his children but his partner and usually himself.
The phrase was first coined in the US, where they have 10 ‘murder-suicides’ a week, proportionally higher than in the UK, where there are only a few a year. Easier access to fire arms in the US may be a factor. It is the calculating nature of these family annihilations that people often find so hard to understand. Psychologists have long puzzled over this phenomenon and in particular why it tends to be fathers, rather than mothers, who are the perpetrators. Family annihilation is an act of extreme aggression; a violent gesture, laden with potent rage. US research shows that family annihilators rarely have a criminal record and will often appear to others as stable, trustworthy and dedicated to their family. The psychological profile they share, however, concerns how they have constructed their sense of ‘self’. According to stereotypical gender roles, while motherhood is often seen as the denial of self by putting one’s children before one’s own needs, fatherhood is more concerned with provision for the family and being seen as the head of it – the family becomes part of the self, rather than supplanting it.
The typical profile of a family annihilator is a middle-aged man, a good provider who appears dedicated, devoted and loyal to his family. However, he is usually quite socially isolated, with few friends and with profound feelings of frustration and inadequacy. The tipping point is some catastrophic loss or impending tragedy that threatens to undermine his sense of self and amplifies his feelings of impotence and powerlessness. In individuals for whom their family is an integral part of their identity – part of themselves, rather than a separate being – murdering the family is akin to a single act of suicide. It is a way of regaining control; of obliterating the impending crisis. This explains why men will often not only kill their partner and children, but also pets and destroy their property by setting fires. It is an eradication of everything that constitutes the self.
In addition to this, they are often motivated by bitterness and anger and a desire to punish the spouse; while killing the partner is an act of revenge, killing the children is an act of love as he believes he – and therefore they – will be better off dead than face the imminent loss of power.
While this points to severe psychological problems with underlying personality issues and maladaptive coping strategies, this, in itself, does not necessarily constitute a mental illness. However, professionals are divided as to whether these men can be held truly culpable for their actions. For the few that survive, jurors tend to find them responsible for their actions and therefore guilty of murder, but some end up detained in secure psychiatric hospitals indefinitely.
Experts, such as Jack Levin, Professor of Sociology and Criminology at the Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts who has studied family annihilators, have argued that they typically do know right from wrong and points to the fact that they are well planned and selective and that if a friend came along, the father wouldn’t kill him or her – instead, he kills his children to get even with his wife because he blames her and hates her.
Others, such as Tony Black, former chief psychologist at Broadmoor, are more circumspect. Black has argued that for anyone to commit such a heinous crime, there must be something fundamentally wrong with them and it is unhelpful just to simply think of them as ‘bad’. But what can be done to prevent such atrocities? Is there the possibility of intervention before such murders take place or ways to identify at risk men?
Scott Mackenzie, a consultant forensic psychiatrist in Essex who has assessed family annihilators for the criminal justice system, feels that often there are underlying anti-social personality traits and fundamental issues with rage and anger management. But these psychological traits are not uncommon in the population, and most will never go on to murder their family. ‘Those who act are often angry and resentful individuals. There is often a prior pattern of domestic abuse. But predicting with any reliability who will suddenly flip and resort to this kind of behaviour is incredibly difficult, if not near impossible. After any such incident there are inevitably questions asked if anything could be done, if someone could have intervened or spotted the signs. Tragically, in most cases, the answer is no.’

Reward boosted to $5,000 for missing baby abducted by dad (Ludington, Michigan)
Remember this case from last summer, where dad SEAN PHILLIPS abducted his 4-month-old daughter, only to have the baby "disappear"? Probably not. The media basically ignored this case in favor of the Casey Anthony Circus.

"Estranged" dad murders mom while their 3 kids sleep, then flees home and abandons kids (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania)
"Estranged" dad DONNELL PRICE stabbed his wife to death, the mother of their three children, then fled the home--effectively abandoning the children. Though the article doesn't point out the abandonment part. I guess the fathers rights people will bray what a great dad he was 'cause he didn't slaughter the kids too? Just left them traumatized, motherless, and alone at a murder scene?
Check out the second killer highlighted here, MICHAEL JAMES SCOTT FETTER. He tells us he just "lost it" in a discussion with the mother as who would have custody of the kids. You know, if the family courts had stuck to the "tender years" doctrine, we wouldn't have all these @$$hole criminals thinking their entitled to ownership/possession of the kids, either through the courts and/or through murdering or "disappearing" the mom.
Note that fathers rights are much stronger than they were 20 years ago, and yet the domestic violence murder rate is WAY UP. Giving them all those daddies "rights" sure didn't satisfy all their abuse and control needs now, did it? It just made all these criminals more narcissistic and entitled than ever.
And we still have the police "scratching their heads" over all the bloodbaths getting on. I'm thinking that mothers under siege need to get a gun and learn how to use it, because the authorities are committed to being clueless.

Estranged husband charged in attack on Harrisburg School District teacher

HARRISBURG — As her children slept, police said Tarina Price became yet another victim at the hands of someone who once shared her life.
During an argument, estranged husband Donnell Price stabbed her more than 10 times and then shot her at least four times in the head, police said, before fleeing her home in the 1600 block of Sycamore Street in Harrisburg.
Emergency crews rushed the 33-year-old Price, a mother of three and an eighth-grade school teacher, to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where she arrived in grave condition. Hospital officials confirmed late Thursday that Price had died.
Donnell Price, 40, later returned to the scene and was arrested, police said. He’s been charged with attempted homicide and related counts. At press time, there was no indication from authorities about what might have caused the incident or whether they had amended the charge to homicide.
It was the second alleged brutal example of domestic violence in the midstate in the last week and something those in law enforcement said they see all too often around the holidays.
On Saturday, police said 36-year-old Karen Marie Stump was killed by her fiance in the couple’s North Middleton Township home while their kids were inside. When officers arrived, they said they found Michael James Scott Fetter hugging the couple’s three children, and he allegedly told police he had strangled Stump.
Fetter, 44, who is charged with homicide, allegedly said to police that “I lost it” when he and Stump were arguing about separating and who would get custody of the kids.
Talking about the latest two cases, Dauphin County District Attorney Edward M. Marsico Jr. said they are examples of the domestic violence that continues to plague society.
“It’s horrible,” he said. “We see this type of case a lot during the holidays.”
Marsico, like many law enforcement officials, has continued to scratch his head at the recent outburst of domestic crimes across the state.
Pennsylvania had 133 domestic-violence deaths in 2010, according to the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Five deaths were reported in Dauphin County in 2010. But this year so far, Dauphin County has seen a decline, logging only one homicide related to domestic violence. On average, about 390 domestic violence cases are reported to the Dauphin County YWCA every month. Yearly, the agency sees about 3,000 cases a year.
While there aren’t as many cases reported in Cumberland County — about 1,368 victims between July 2010 and June 2011 — the number of homicides has soared.
In 2010, authorities linked one death to domestic violence in Cumberland and Perry counties.
But in 2011? Eight.
Almost double the highest number of domestic violence deaths reported in Dauphin County.
Rhonda Hendrickson said you can look at all the statistics you want. But it’s no indication of how bad things are.
Hendrickson, director of Violence Intervention and Prevention Services for the YWCA, said there are hundreds of domestic violence cases that go unreported every year.
“The stats don’t show the whole picture,” she said. “It’s a growing problem.”
But why?
Randy Runkle, business manager at Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland and Perry Counties, believes it’s the crumbling economy that leads people to commit such violent acts.
“It’s harder for everybody,” Runkle said. “Money isn’t coming in like it used to.”
Others, like Hendrickson, believe it’s not money that causes brutal crimes in households but violent tendencies fueled by stress.
It “isn’t the holiday season or alcohol that causes this,” Hendrickson said. “You can’t blame it on those things. It’s the perpetrator’s fault.”
Agencies against domestic violence, such as Runkle’s and Hendrickson’s, do what they can to help. But the challenges have been hard to overcome.
“We continue to educate and help victims, but we’re not in the houses every day,” Runkle said.
Domestic violence agencies have also fallen victim to the economy, Runkle said.
“It’s hard to get money to keep going,” he added. “You can only do so much with what you’ve got.”
Friends of Tarina Price wish they had all the answers.
Donnell Price didn’t have a criminal record, according to court files. Police said he had two guns registered under his name.
On Thursday morning, co-workers at the Rowland School, where Price teaches eighth-grade English, couldn’t absorb what had really happened.
“It’s almost unbelievable,” Harrisburg School District Superintendent Sybil Knight-Burney said.
Knight-Burney held a meeting with Rowland teachers to tell them the news.
They said Price fought for what she believes in.
“She was a very compassionate and caring teacher,” Knight-Burney said.
A graduate of Harrisburg High School, Price grew up wanting to be a teacher.
“She was good,” Knight-Burney said. “She was a great part of this community.”
Thursday night, school officials and community members gathered in Rowland’s gym to pray for Price. Pastors were on hand to provide counseling.
Today, the school’s staff and students plan to wear purple, the color of domestic violence awareness, in honor of their teacher.
Two students addressed the crowd at the gym, and one was overcome with emotions and broke down crying.
Many parents in the crowd were struggling to find answers to give their children about why Tarina Price won’t be in class.
“She is the best teacher a parent could ask for, and her absence will be noticed,” Tammy Hodges said. “Never thought I would have to explain something like this at home.”

Warrant: Dad exposed 7-year-old daughter to porn, nudity during his visitation time (Cornelius, North Carolina)
What is not made explicit here: that this sexual abuse took place during UNNAMED DAD's visitation time. The mother no longer lived in the home. Was this court-ordered visitation? Were there allegations or evidence of previous abuse that were swept under the rug? These are the unanswered questions here.

CORNELIUS, NC (WBTV) - A Charlotte second-grade girl has told FBI agents that her father has exposed her to so much pornography and nudity that she has those images in her head constantly, making her stomach and head hurt.
The girl, 7 years old, first told a teacher on Nov. 14 about her father taking nude photos of her as she finishes showering "and it makes her feel ‘yuck'," according to an FBI search warrant of the man's apartment.
The man and his wife live apart and the girl experiences nudity and masturbation – in real life and digitally – frequently when she visits her Cornelius father's home, she told 2 FBI agents on Nov. 15, the search warrant said. The parents had been married for 9 years but, divorced in July 2011 after 2 years apart.
She told a teacher that her father took photos of her "with a towel around her head and another around her body and daddy had me hold the towel around my body up to take a picture down there," according to the search warrant, which was returned to a magistrate on Dec. 13 said.
At the father's house, which she last visited Nov. 9, she is also exposed to him "shaking his boy parts" while he is defecating in a bathroom and during a trip to a beach-front resort in Myrtle Beach, the warrant said.
"The child said she watched 4 girls lick each other's (breasts) and then touch each other," the search warrant said. She frequently is made to watch her father visit porn websites while he "shakes his boy parts," the warrant said.
The girl also said that her father gave her a cell phone which he has loaded with nude photos of himself that "she is not allowed to take the phone out of the home," the warrant said.
At one point, the girl said she saw her nude photos on her father's computer, the warrant said. The father then joked about putting them on Facebook, the girl told the FBI.
"The child victim ... sees the pictures everywhere in her head -- when she is sleeping, looking at a wall or starring at the playground and that it makes her stomach and head hurt," the warrant said.
On Nov. 18, the FBI seized 12 laptop computers, six external storage devices, including one with 500 GB of storage, 2 iPhones and a Blackberry phone.
The man has not been arrested or charged, but the FBI investigation is continuing as agents sort through massive amounts of computer data.

Officials implore public to seek help for domestic violence during holidays (Towson, Maryland)
It's all very nice for "local officials" to encourage the public (women) to seek help for domestic violence. But in fact, Maryland has one of the worse records in the country for denying women orders of protection, and granting violent fathers access to their children after the divorce or separation.
We've posted on killer dad RICHARD SPICKNALL before. What is not mentioned here is that this father had joint custody when he killed these kids, and that he got joint custody despite a history of domestic violence against the mother.
See our previous posting on this case here:
http://dastardlydads.blogspot.com/2011/01/dastardly-dads-from-archives-easton.html
Maybe instead of piously lecturing moms on "getting help," we need to start holding judges, legislators, and police officers responsible for the consequences of their actions.

Domestic Violence Increases During Holidays
Officials Implore Public To Seek Help
POSTED: 5:00 pm EST December 14, 2011
UPDATED: 7:13 am EST December 15, 2011
TOWSON, Md. -- Local officials hope to help prevent incidents of suicide and domestic violence dramatically, which increase during the holiday season, according to law enforcement officials.
In September 1999, Lisa Spicknall's husband, Richard, drove their two children to a bridge over the Choptank River, killing them all.
"Their father had committed the ultimate act of domestic violence," she said. "He shot and murdered my two beautiful children."
Spicknall, flanked by Baltimore County officials Wednesday morning, shared her nightmare once again in an effort to remind people of the horrors of domestic violence.
"Just within the last two months, we've had several domestic homicides in Baltimore County," Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson said. "What strikes us is many of these cases are committed by family members, loved ones, associates, people that we know and trust and we're with for many, many years."
Baltimore County Health Officer Dr. Gregory Branch said he believes the rise in violent behavior around the holidays is linked to added stress.
"During the holidays, our expectations change -- what we want to give and want to receive -- so because of those, we don't cope very well with those stresses," Branch said.
Health officials said it's vital for people in crisis to take advantage of public services for assistance.
"It took me eight years, but (for) a lot of people, it doesn't take that long anymore because they realize now that the services are there and that there is a way out. They can see the light on the other side," Spicknall said. "I hope, by speaking out, that shows there is a light on the other side they can go to."
As part of her tour to speak against domestic violence, Spicknall said she emphasizes just how important those lifelines of help can be.
"I know, in my case especially, I didn't want to admit what was going on, and anyone who tried to help me I would push away. So, there are lots of resources out there to tell you how to help and what you need to do. The best thing I can tell people is just listen," Spicknall said.
We've posted on killer dad RICHARD SPICKNALL before. What is not mentioned here is that this father had joint custody when he killed these kids, and that he got joint custody despite a history of domestic violence against the mother.
See our previous posting on this case here:

Maybe instead of piously lecturing moms on "getting help," we need to start holding judges, legislators, and police officers responsible for the consequences of their actions.
