Dad murders 7-year-old daughter, critically injures 9-year-old son (Oxford, Massachusetts)

Yet another daddy who got all pissy because mom left his sorry @SS. So we have to make sure everybody knows Daddy's Not Happy by shooting the kids. Still, you have all the nitwits saying how "wonderful" Daddy is, all the people who really know jacksh** but got to open their mouths anyway.

Notice that Daddy HAD TEMPORARY CUSTODY  of these kids, that MOM WAS NOT LIVING in the home. And he still killed his daughter and critically wounded his son.

Just goes to show, ONCE AGAIN, that the fathers' rights people are dead wrong. You can never make a terrorist happy. We've been told for 30 years now that daddies wouldn't pull this crap if they were treated "fairly." Well, now days, they DO get child access. Even if they have a criminal record. And they are still murdering people.

This killer dad is identified as DARYL BENWAY.

Vigil held for Oxford kids who were shot by father

Boy who survived Mass. shooting remains critical
Father shoots his daughter and son, then kills himself

OXFORD, Mass. (WHDH) -- A vigil was held in Oxford Monday night after a man fatally shot his 7-year-old daughter and critically wounded his 9-year-old son before turning the gun on himself Saturday.

It was a somber evening in Oxford. Hundreds packed a local park, many wearing green and pink, the favorite colors of 9-year old Owen Benway and his little sister, 7-year-old Abigail.

“Great family, both of them. Wonderful people -- we’re just all in shock over this,” said Nadia Pavao.

The district attorney says on Saturday 51-year old Daryl Benway shot and critically injured his son Owen, then shot and killed his daughter Abigail before turning the gun on himself. There is a report that nine years ago the Department of Children's and Families investigated an allegation of abuse and neglect involving an older child in the family.

Owen, who was a cub scout, remains in the intensive care unit at the hospital.

“We’re not here to judge people, we’re here to bring our kids and let everyone know what Oxford’s all about. And we’re just trying the best we can to get through this,” said Mike Elliot.

The vigil was put together in less than 48 hours, but it still drew hundreds in this small close-knit town.

Many brought their children too -- although some Oxford parents admit, it's been difficult explaining what happened.

“I just tell her that she’s up in heaven with an angel. That’s all I say,” said Kimberly Shays.

“I’m almost 50 and I can’t comprehend it. How does an 8-year-old comprehend what has happened,” said Tom Barter.

Long-time friends of the Benway's say they were a happy, normal family, and recently fell on hard times. But no one could imagine it would come to this.
“When I just heard about it I just -- I couldn’t believe it. Even to this day, we’re here and it still just doesn’t seem real,” said Pavao.

Friends and neighbors told 7News the Benways were separated and the mother wasn’t even living at the home. They told 7News the mother has spent the entire time since Saturday night at her son’s side in the hospital. She was not at Monday night's vigil.

Dad murders mom, two others over "custody arrangements;' abducts 4-year-old daughter (Quincy, Pennsylvania)

Another violent control freak dad. This time three people are dead. And once again, we see that child custody is just a means for terrorizing the victim; dad  KEVIN CLEEVES then "closed the deal" with a mass slaughter. Do you think in all this that his daughter's best interest ever crossed his sicko brain for even one second? Of course not. It's all about Daddy and his terroristic treatment of others. That's all it ever is.

Question: Who gave a father who was this volatile visitation rights with a child? Was this court-ordered? How much you want to bet that this father has a criminal record and/or a history of domestic violence, and some judge deliberatly put mom and anybody else in dad's "way" in danger? If there was a judge in all this, let's see the name(s).

3 shot dead in Pa.; girl taken, found safe in Ohio
Associated Press – 1 hr 31 mins ago.. .

QUINCY, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man confronting his estranged wife about custody arrangements for their daughter shot the woman to death and killed her boyfriend and his mother, then fled with the 4-year-old girl before the two were found about 250 miles away in Ohio, authorities said.

Kevin Cleeves, 35, of Waynesboro was charged Saturday with three counts of criminal homicide and was awaiting an extradition hearing in the Friday night deaths of 25-year-old Brandi Cleeves, 28-year-old Vincent Santucci and 55-year-old Rosemary Holma.

Pennsylvania state police said in an affidavit that Cleeves told relatives he had been trying to contact his wife to make arrangements to pick his daughter up and went to Santucci's house in Quincy Township to make sure the girl was safe.

Police said Cleeves saw his wife, Santucci and the girl in a car and confronted the couple in the driveway but was ordered off the property.

Authorities said he then opened fire around 9 p.m. Friday, shooting Santucci in the car and then his wife when she jumped out, and finally the older woman as she ran toward him. Police said he took the girl and fled, later telling authorities he was trying to get to a relative's house in Michigan.

An Amber Alert was issued in which authorities said Cleeves should be considered "armed and dangerous as well as suicidal." The alert was canceled hours later, on Saturday, after police in Austintown in northeastern Ohio, outside Youngstown, said the car was spotted in a hotel parking lot off Interstate 80 and later stopped in the parking lot of the Weston Plaza on Route 46, where Cleeves was arrested without incident.

"His 4-year-old daughter was located in the vehicle and was unharmed," police said in a statement.

Court records did not list an attorney for Cleeves, who was in the Mahoning County Jail, police said.

A detective with the Austintown Township police department in Ohio told The (Chambersburg) Public Opinion that an extradition hearing was scheduled for Monday.

Dad to be charged with homicide in beating death of 2-month-old daughter; was "angered" by her crying (New Brighton, Pennsylvania)

So basically, Daddy got pissed because the baby was crying and beat her death. A common scenario with fathers who kill babies. They either lack the instincts or the socialization to deal with crying infants, so they attack them. Poor impulse control fits in there somewhere too.

Dad is identified here as ROBERT HEIBERT.

Father charged in death of infant daughter

NEW BRIGHTON, Pa. -
A Beaver County father is expected to be charged with homicide in the death of his 2-month-old daughter.

Investigators said Robert Heibert, 28, of New Brighton, beat his daughter to death, and that he may have assaulted her several more times in the days before she died.

According to police, Heibert shook his daughter in their New Brighton apartment Tuesday evening while the child’s mother was at bingo.

Heibert said he shook the girl because her lips were blue and she wasn’t breathing, according to court papers.

Heibert confessed to shaking the girl three times, according to the criminal complaint.

Police said Heibert told investigators he spent 15-30 minutes looking up how to perform CPR on the Internet before finally calling 911.

Investigators said Heibert admitted his daughter’s crying angered him and that he shook her four times in the past week because she wouldn’t stop.

Heibert is being held in the Beaver County Jail on several charges, including aggravated assault.

Investigators said they plan to add homicide to the list of charges filed against him.

Dad suspected of murdering mom gets to "supervise" kids' access to ex-wfe's estate administrators (Salt Lake City, Utah)

Shades of JOSH POWELL. Yet another dad "suspected" of killing the mother of his children, yet the police don't do sh** or arrest him or anything. Meanwhile, of course dad JOHN WALL gets custody of the kids. Notice, however, that the eldest moved out as soon as he turned 18, and tried to get custody of his younger siblings. He claims Dad is violent and abusive, and that he used to arm himself with knives for his own protection. Daddy--in a manner that's common among control freaks/abusers-- shut off all contact with Mom's family. Now in a "compromise" he'll be allowed to "monitor" (censor) contact.

Communication plan reached in custody case involving bathtub death of scientist

By Pat Reavy, Deseret News

Published: Wednesday, July 25 2012 3:25 p.m. MDT

SALT LAKE CITY — The father of the children of a Salt Lake scientist who died under mysterious circumstances says they can email and Skype with the administrators of his ex-wife's estate, but only under supervision.

A communication agreement between John Wall and Almut von Schwedler, who oversees the estate of her deceased sister, 49-year-old Uta von Schwedler, was announced in 3rd District Court documents on Wednesday.

Uta von Schwedler was mysteriously found dead in an overflowing bathtub in her house on Sept. 27, 2011. She and John Wall were divorced in 2006, but a bitter custody battle over their children continued until the day she was found dead. The medical examiner listed von Schwedler's cause of death as drowning. But the manner of death "could not be determined," leaving open the possibilities of both murder and suicide.

Uta von Schwedler's four children moved in with their father full-time after her death. That's when Almut von Schwedler, who lives in Australia, said her communication with them was cut off.
Uta von Schwedler's oldest son, Pelle, moved out of his father's house when he turned 18.

After struggling for months to reach a compromise, attorneys for both sides announced a settlement Wednesday on communication with the three remaining children, ages 16, 13 and 11.

With the help of a guardian ad litem, Wall agreed to allow written communication between the children and Almut von Schwedler, as well as Skype conversations "from time to time," but only to talk about administration of the estate. Wall must be given at least 48 hours advance notice of all Skype communication as well as a description of the items that will be talked about, the agreement states.

The Skype conversations will be supervised by Wall or the guardian ad litem who will also have power to end the conversation, "if the subject of the contact strays from estate administrative matters," according to court records.

In addition, Wall must be copied on all emails and written letters between the children and Almut von Schwedler, the agreement states.

The agreement applies to three of von Schwedler's children until they turn 17. One of those three siblings turns 17 on Sunday.

Currently, the three children are living at an undisclosed location outside of their father's home, under the custody of 3rd District Juvenile Court.

After Pelle Wall moved out, he filed a motion in court to have his siblings removed from his father's house until a Salt Lake police investigation into his father over whether he had any involvement in his wife's death, is completed.

Wall, before moving out, said in court documents that he was "so fearful for his physical safety around his father he has, on occasion, armed himself with knives." He filed a petition in court to have his siblings removed from the house, saying he was concerned about their safety and that they were "suffering physical, emotional or development injury or damage."

Also in court, Wall has asked a judge to set a hearing to force Almut von Schwedler to turn over all the photo albums, videos and negatives she has "reflecting the shared marital life" of himself and Uta von Schwedler.

When they were divorced, a judge ruled Uta von Schwedler could be in charge of the family photo albums at her house while all videos and film negatives could be watched by Wall at his house.

Not only is Wall demanding all pictures being held by Almut von Schwedler be returned to him, but all copies made of the albums after his ex-wife's death without his permission be turned over.

On the day Uta von Schwedler was found dead in her bathtub, her youngest child's photo album was also found in the water next to her body.

Almust von Schwedler claims her sister would never have taken that album in the water with her. She said each of Uta's children had an album with both pictures and memorabilia from their early years. Possession of the albums was reportedly a "bone of contention" between her and Wall, she said.

Lawyer: Dad didn't murder 3-year-old son (Memphis, Tennessee)

Accused father's lawyer: Innocent in son's death

ADRIAN SAINZ, Associated Press

Updated 10:38 a.m., Thursday, July 26, 2012

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The lawyer for a man charged with fatally beating his 3-year-old son and dumping the body in a trash bin said Thursday that his client is not guilty.

Maurice Brown Sr., 28, was in court on murder charges in the death of his son, Maurice Brown Jr. Brown Sr. is being held on $1 million bond.

He told the judge that John Perry, a lawyer from Southaven, Miss., is going to represent him in the case.

He told police on July 1 that he had awakened from a nap in his Memphis apartment and found that his son was missing. Authorities began an intensive search, using police dogs and a helicopter. The boy's body was found in a large trash bin two days later.

Police found blood in the father's apartment and a witness said he saw Brown Sr. carrying what appeared to be a small child's body outside of the apartment house the night the boy disappeared, according to an affidavit.

An autopsy showed that the boy died of blunt force trauma. Brown Sr. was charged July 6 with murder in perpetration of aggravated child neglect or endangerment and murder in perpetration of aggravated child abuse.

Perry told reporters outside the courtroom that his client is feeling horrible that his son is dead.

"I do adamantly say my client is not guilty," Perry said.

A formal plea won't be entered until Brown Sr. is indicted by a grand jury.

Brown Sr. had been employed at a fast food restaurant and wanted to work in the music industry, Perry said.

Dad kills 4-month-old son and gets just 5 years in prison (Maidstone, England)

Thanks to DS for sending this to me.

This is such a typical killer dad story--and the way that media treats it is typical too.

The reality? This vicious punk, a father named WAYNE ACOTT, assaulted his 4-month-old son and killed him. His injuries, the doctors say, were akin to those seen in an automobile accident. Apparently Daddy was all tuckered out from staying up late playing computer games, so he vented all his frustration and hostility on a helpless infant.

The spin? We're told not one, not twice, BUT THREE TIMES, what a "loving father" this punk was. If this is "loving," I'll take "indifference" for $100. Plus, not once, but TWICE, Daddy's criminal assault and subsequent murder of his infant son was minimized and trivialized by the (male) authorities as a "momentarily loss of control." You see, daddies are never really responsible for their violence. It was all just a lapse, see.

That's why Daddy gets just 5 years in prison for the murder of a baby. Typically, mothers get longer sentences than that for "failing to protect" the baby from punks like Acott.

Father who killed his four-month-old son during 'momentary lapse of control' jailed for just five years

Injuries of the baby boy were likened to those of a car accident by doctors

Wayne Acott, 22, previously described as loving father

By Emma Clark

A father who killed his baby son, inflicting injuries on him that are normally seen in car crash victims, has been jailed for just five years.

Wayne Acott, 22, of, Maidstone, Kent, killed four-month-old Mackenzie after staying up late playing computer games at a neighbour’s flat.

Detectives said Acott had a ‘momentary lapse of control’ at the time of the attack and had previously been described as a loving father.

After returning from his neighbour’s home in the early hours, Acott’s partner woke him hours later, asking him to feed the baby while she dropped her daughter off at school.

When she returned home and pulled into the parking bay on January 21 last year, Acott rang her mobile in a panicked state, saying Mackenzie had collapsed.

As she ran into their flat, Acott was standing with the baby in his arms.

She rang an ambulance and was told to perform CPR on Mackenzie as he had stopped breathing.

The stricken baby was in a critical condition when he arrived at Maidstone Hospital, from where he was transferred to a special baby care unit at King’s College Hospital in London.

He remained on life support for the following seven days but died from the trauma suffered to his head after failing to regain consciousness.

Doctors told the parents that Mackenzie’s injuries were like those normally seen in victims of a high-speed car accident, Kent Police said.

A post-mortem examination found he had suffered a significant traumatic event such as an impact or impacts to his head or a shaking injury.

Acott was charged with manslaughter on August 9 and pleaded not guilty on October 28.

He was found guilty yesterday following a trial at Maidstone Crown Court which started on July 9, police said.

Detective Inspector Trevor Fleming, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said afterwards: ‘It is very sad when such a young life is ended by a parent. ‘It is the case that many parents feel the strain of the early months of a new baby.

‘Unfortunately it would appear this young man had a momentary lapse of control.

He had before that been described as a loving father.

‘A number of agencies are available to help new parents and they should not be afraid to ask for help.’

HUDSON, Wis. -- The attorney for a North Dakota man charged with killing his three young daughters in Wisconsin says the defense will provide evidence that shows the defendant was delusional and depressed before the girls were slain.

Defense lawyer John Kucinski (kuh-SIN'-skee) says Aaron Schaffhausen had been depressed for quite a while and was taking medication. Kucinski tells the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram ( http://bit.ly/MHXQh9) there were people who were concerned about his abnormal behavior, including his ex-wife who told relatives Schaffhausen had serious problems.

The Minot, N.D., construction worker, who turns 35 Wednesday, is being held in the St. Croix (kroy) County Jail on $2 million cash bond. A judge on Tuesday ruled there's enough evidence to hold Schaffhausen for trial.

Eleven-year-old Amara, 8-year-old Sophie and 5-year-old Cecilia Schaffhausen were found slain in their River Falls home July 10.

Portageville, MO Father Charged In Infant Son’s Death

Posted on: 6:19 pm, July 23, 2012, by Mike Suriani, updated on: 06:41am, July 24, 2012

(New Madrid County, MO) Investigators say a one-month-old child died of severe injuries and now his father is charged with second degree murder.

It happened in Portageville, MO last week.

23-year-old Kade Stringfellow was arraigned in New Madrid County Court Monday in the death of Karson Stringfellow.

Forrest Bell’s living room is just a few steps from the apartment where police say an unspeakable case of child abuse took place, “First of all I couldn’t believe it. Then I was absolutely devastated.”

Bell says she has no mercy for whoever is responsible, “I believe that if anybody does that to a child, they should have that done to them.”

The infant was taken to a Missouri hospital July 16th with a brain injury, four broken ribs and other injuries.

Stringfellow’s story to deputies was he fell while holding Karson but doctors say the baby’s injuries and the father’s story don’t match.

News of the baby’s death brought emotional response from people we talked with Monday in Portageville.

Tom Lewis is a friend of Karson’s mother and says there’s no way she could have been involved in the tragedy, “You couldn’t ask for a better mother than what Cayla is to her children. She loves them very much and I know there was no abuse from her to her kids.”

Lewis said if Stringfellow is responsible for the abuse, he deserves to be punished, “I don’t think he needs the death sentence. I think he needs to spend the rest of his natural-born life in prison because they’ll take care of him in there.”

The infant’s death is hard on Forrest Bell, a mother and grandmother. She vividly recalls the day Cayla Stringfellow brought newborn son Karson home for the first time, “Of course we run over there, ‘Oh I want to see the baby’. And the baby was gorgeous, I mean just absolutely gorgeous.”

Kade Stringfellow is being held on $100,000 cash bond.

He is scheduled to be back in court August 9th.

Father charged after twin babies injured

Sun, 22 Jul 2012

A father has been charged with injuring his 9-week-old twins, one of who is recovering from a fractured shoulder.

The Herald on Sunday understands the injuries happened when the babies were shaken during an argument between the parents.

Police have indicated more charges are likely to follow.

The 33-year-old man, who has been granted name suppression, faces two counts of intentionally injuring the twins - a boy and a girl - and one count of grievous bodily harm against another person.

In Tauranga, a woman was stabbed to death on Friday in a domestic altercation.

These are textbook examples of why Owen Glenn made an $80-million pledge this week to end domestic violence and child abuse in New Zealand. He also offered to fund a commission of inquiry into family violence, which the Government turned down.

Glenn told the Herald on Sunday he was "astonished" the Government had not taken up his offer, saying family violence needed serious attention.

"If someone came and bashed your kids, would you think it is urgent? What else could possibly be more urgent?" he said.

"If the Government does not want to spend public money, then I am sending a courtesy to the Government.

"If they don't support it I will exercise my right as a citizen to do it, and I will decide who to put on the board. I don't have to share the view of the people we put in power to make decisions on our lives."

Glenn said he was willing to part with 10 per cent of his wealth because he didn't like seeing people who couldn't defend themselves get hurt.

"I despair and I feel sorry; some of the women should help themselves a lot more, but the kids can't do it. The kids are the ones that suffer, that have no way of seeking help."

Social Development Minister Paula Bennett said several inquiries were already under way and pouring money into another one was not the answer.

"I thank him for his generosity and injection of money going right to the coalface. Donations like his can help cut through some of the bureaucracy ... but as for the inquiry, I personally think the money would be better spent on the frontline," Bennett said.

"But who am I to tell him how to spend his money?"

She also had a message for violent family members: "Take a breath and get help; please take it; it will be without judgment."

A neighbour of the twins told the Herald on Sunday the defendant's family, including six children, had moved out of their home of eight years on Wednesday.

"She has gone to her mum's in Manurewa and the kids were taken away by CYFs," she said.

She said the twins' mother was found crying on the front lawn.

When asked why she was upset, she was told the defendant allegedly shook their twins during an argument about what to name the babies.

"She wanted to name them after her parents but he didn't want that," she claimed.

Child, Youth and Family northern regional director Grant Bennett confirmed all of the children were living with appointed caregivers.

The father is in custody and due to appear in the Auckland District Court on July 31.

Woman sues father over 10 years of sex abuse as child

By Tim Healy

Wednesday July 18 2012

A WOMAN is suing her father over sustained sexual abuse he carried out on her from the ages of two to 12.

The father was convicted and sentenced in 2006 to six years’ imprisonment, with two suspended, after he pleaded guilty to five sample charges related to the most serious incidents of abuse which occurred in the 1980s when his wife was out of the house.

The now 38-year-old woman claims that when she eventually told her mother, at around 17 years of age, her mother told her not to tell anyone and said: "It was not that bad, he did not rape you."

The woman said the abuse initially involved touching her genitals, but he later got her to perform oral sex and he lay on top of her naked after getting her to also remove some of her clothing. Apart from one other incident, the abuse stopped around the age of 12 after she had her first period.

Mr Justice Eamon de Valera was told yesterday that liability was not being contested but the defence were arguing the case had been brought outside time limits provided by the statute of limitations. The hearing continues.
The woman, a mother of three, told the court the abuse had a devastating effect on her, leaving her feeling as though she was "just existing and there was no life". She always needed to be with her own children when they went out, never trusted anyone and only recently started trusting her own partner of 20 years.

She never told anyone what was happening at the time because she was afraid of her father, who was an "extremely violent" man and who gave her mother very bad beatings, particularly after drinking a lot. He also warned her not to tell anyone, that she would be taken away and no one would believe her.
"When he came home, we would be terrified because we knew he would start hitting us.

"His way was The Way and everything was about what my Dad wanted, whether it was what we watched on TV, or going down to the kitchen to get a drink."

Around 17, when she was doing her Leaving Certificate, she said there was a lot of fighting between her parents and there was constant pressure on her about the exams. One morning, she said, she left a note for her mother saying she was running away and to "ask Dad what he did to me on the days you were not there."
She left but her father searched for her and picked her up later and brought her back home.

When she spoke to her mother about the note, she was told not to tell anyone and that if her father had to leave home, the mother would not be able to afford to look after the family.

The woman said she was crestfallen by her mother's response. Later that day, after her parents had gone out in the car and then returned, her mother then gave her the response that the abuse was not that bad and she had not been raped.

Subsequently, her father threatened to have her put into a psychiatric hospital, she said.

She had her first child at 18 years of age, but it was not until 2004, when there was a crisis in the family, that she told her siblings about what happened and they said if she went to gardai, they would support her. She made a 16-page statement to gardai and her father was convicted in 2006.

Mom gets 15 years to life for "failing to protect" 22-month-old son from killer dad (Sacramento, California)

This case illustrates in a nutshell the double standards used to judge mothers and fathers.

This mother, despite being charged and convicted of 2nd-degree murder, just as the baby's father was, didn't actually inflict direct violence on this infant child. It was the sicko daddy,
PAUL HARPER SR., who beat the baby to death. Mom was found guilty of "failure to protect" against a man she was terrified of. (And who very likely beat her himself.) Mom is serving more years in prison than many of the killer dads we've posted about here at Dastardly Dads. Of course we don't even know that Mom realistically had the opportunity to save this child, despite all the history of abuse she had suffered herself. And even then, had she bravely left her husband, would Dad have been given joint custody/visitation by the California family courts? Would the court-appointed shrinks have found her "depressed" or "alienating" or "a liar"? Very possibly. Or might dad have killed both of them out of control/revenge? Also very likely.

We all like to imagine that we would be the hero in a situation where lives are threatened. In Aurora, Colorado, all the NRA fantasy people like to think they would have been the big brave action hero who would have brought the shooter down. Despite the fact that it was a dark theater with a movie going which included gunfire sounds, despite the smoke bombs the killer allegedly threw into the crowd before he started shooting. Despite the confusion, and the screams. Dream on.

Even in the the most violent of political regimes, only a small number of people will ever directly confront the powers that be. Most people--for better or for worse--just keep their heads low and try to get by. After the regime is finally overthrown, future generations--who never experienced the terror--often denounce these survivors as cowards who "allowed" the state-sanctioned violence to happen. But even if these survivors are guilty of moral cowardice on some abstract level, they are seldom sent to prison. But mothers are.

And in cases where the mother, girlfriend, or stepmother committed the actual abuse or murder, the fathers are seldom found guilty of "failure to protect" even when they knowingly dumped or abandoned the child to a female caretaker with a documented history of mental illness or abuse. Very often, we see that fathers pull the "clueless daddy" card--"I had no idea she was beating those kids!"--and the courts buy it.

Sacramento mother given prison term, writes emotional letter to dead son

By Andy Furillo
afurillo@sacbee.com

The letter contained misspellings and bad grammar, but the emotion expressed by Theresa Harper rang true and clear, even if the thought behind it came too late to save her baby's life.

To her 22-month-old son, Paul Harper Jr., the incarcerated mother said, "I am so very very sorry."

It was his father – her husband – who beat the boy to death in their Del Paso Heights apartment. On Friday, Theresa Harper, 26, paid for her failure to protect when Sacramento Superior Court Judge Steve White handed her a 15-to-life prison term.

Paul Harper Sr., 31, like his wife, pleaded no contest May 29 to second-degree murder in the Aug. 20, 2009, killing. Harper told police he slugged his son in the head because he thought the little boy was "mean mugging" him – shooting him dirty looks. The toddler prompted the standoff by refusing to eat his lunch.

The calendar called for Paul Harper to be sentenced Friday, too. But when he was brought into the courtroom, he asked to withdraw his plea and fire his lawyer, Kenneth L. Rosenfeld.

Following a closed hearing, Harper Sr. decided to stay the course. He will be sentenced Aug. 31. Rosenfeld remained on the case.

"People taking a significant amount of medicine for mental conditions, they tend to have mindsets that ebb and flow," Rosenfeld said outside court. "Today is an ebb. Tomorrow might be a flow."

Police and prosecutors said Harper Sr. assaulted his boy when the defendant admittedly got the impression his son was trying to act like the man of the house.

"I told him to stop acting like you('re) running things," Harper told police. Then, "I popped him in the side with my knuckles." Then he hit him again.

The coroner said Paul Jr. died of blunt head injuries and "battered child syndrome" leading to fatal aspiration.

In comments to her dead son she put in her letter to the court, Theresa Harper said she was "so scared of your father." She said she should have protected him "like a real mother is supposed to do."

"If I did," she wrote, "you (would) still be alive."

She said "there is no excuse good enough in this world for not protecting my baby."

She said she took full responsibility for the death. She apologized to the rest of her family "for not listening to you guys when you said I should have divorced him because he is no good."

She said she is glad her three other kids, who have been placed in other homes by Child Protective Services, are safe.

Theresa Harper's lawyer, Karol Martin Repkow, said her client "was abused herself, throughout her whole childhood. Abused. Neglected. Abandoned. This is what she knows, to get together with people who are abusive."

Like Theresa Harper said, it didn't amount to an excuse, according to an emailed statement by Deputy District Attorney Chris Ore.

"Both Ms. Harper and Mr. Harper were responsible for the death of their child," Ore said. "Ms. Harper appropriately accepted that responsibility. While Mr. Harper inflicted the physical injuries to the child, a mother has a duty to protect her children."

A man faces years in prison for his role in his baby girl’s death last summer.

Guillermo Ascension Flores was sentenced earlier this month to 20 years in prison, with 16 years suspended. He was also ordered to serve eight years on probation.

He was arrested after his 4-month-old-daughter, Irdessa Vazquez, died in June 2011 at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. The Marion County coroner’s office ruled the child’s death from blunt force trauma a homicide.

Dad breaks into home of estranged mom, takes daughter hostage at gunpoint (Del City, Oklahoma)

Notice that apart from the reporting of the actual facts of this siege, that all the "explanation" for this father's actions come from his enabler family of origin. Of course, all they do is make excuses for him. How he was a "good kid," blah blah. How he was "in love" and "wanted to be with his kids." We even BLAME MOM for the actions of this piece of sh**, with vague accusations of her being "tired" of him. Sickening. But of course, the end result is that the father is stripped of any responsibility for his own actions.

As usual, Mom's point of view isn't represented at all. Or the point of view of other mothers who endure the terroristic threats (and actions) of criminal abusers and control freaks. Unfortunately, this is typical of the mainstream media, which is tends to be sympathetic to the male abuser point of view.

Frankly, it is very likely that this guy had a history of domestic violence which isn't explored here. The fact that he was once convicted of having a loaded gun in this car is telling. Usually guys like this who have guns had a pattern of using them to threaten their families all the time, either openly or subtly. Mom finally broke free and left him. But as we all know, leaving these bastards is the most dangerous time of all. All their control buttons are being punched at once, and they're freaking out.

So in this case, dad SHALWAN LESHORE broke into the mom's house and took her and their two children hostage at gunpoint. Mom and the 2-year-old daughter managed to escape. But Daddy kept the 6-year-old hostage. Then we get the Daddy Drama police standoff SWAT team thing. Same old crap. This piece of sh** never thought of anybody but himself. These narcissists never do. Never gave a thought to the trauma he was inflicting on this girl. This type never does.

It's always about Daddy and his freaking drama. I'm just glad we don't have dead mother and children for once. But you can bet that the survivors will be dealing with the emotional fallout from this for years.

Heart-stopping moment girl, 6, escapes siege house to run into arms of SWAT team officer during stand off with her father... before he shot himself dead

By Daily Mail Reporter

PUBLISHED: 07:49 EST, 19 July 2012 | UPDATED: 15:07 EST, 19 July 2012

A six-year-old girl has been captured running into the arms of a SWAT team officer after her father held her hostage for hours in their home, before killing himself with a single shot. T

The amazing rescue occurred after Shalwan Leshore, 29, broke into his girlfriend's home in Del City, Oklahoma overnight, taking her and their two young children hostage.

The frightened woman managed to call 911 around 7 a.m. before escaping with her two-year-old daughter, but her eldest daughter remained inside with the man.

A SWAT team swooped on the home at 7.30 a.m. and heard a gun shot. They smashed a window to throw a communication device inside to talk with Leshore but only heard the child.

In an amazing video filmed by local station KOCO.com, three hours later, the girl was seen at the door of the house and ran outside to the open arms of a gun-wielding officer.

The team then stormed the home and found Leshore dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, NewsOK reported.

It is believed the couple, who had been together for 10 years, had recently separated and Leshore had been unable to accept it.

His mother, Wanda Frazier, said: 'I guess she's getting tired of him and she put him and and he can't accept that. I guess he love her and love do strange things to people.'

She continued: 'I tried to talk to him and tell him to move on. I think he fell in love. He had two kids by her and his deal was he wanted to be with his kids.'

Moments before she learned of her son's death, she said: 'He's not going to hurt his kids.' 'All I know is that was my baby. That was my baby,' Leshore’s aunt Roberta Cooper added. 'He’s always been a good kid. Always.'

The stand off situation ended just before 10:30 a.m. at the home in the 1900 block of Karen Drive. But officers believe Leshore may have been dead by the time most of the team arrived as the first officer had heard the single gunshot.

'We believe now that was the shot taking his life but we couldn’t anticipate that until we actually made entry into the residence,' Del City Police Capt. Jody Suit said.

The young girl was taken into the care of her mother, and all victims escaped without injury.

Authorities added that she may have been asleep throughout some of the fracas.

Records show Leshore was charged with carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol last year.

He also pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana in 2006 and to possession of a loaded weapon in a vehicle in 2003, NewsOk reported.

"Stressed" dad violently shakes 9-month-old son, leaving baby in critical condition; dad has previous history of infant battering (Indianapolis, Indiana)

Police: Dad Admits To Shaking, Critically Injuring Baby

Man Told Police He Was Stressed Caring For Children

POSTED: 2:50 pm EDT July 17, 2012

UPDATED: 2:55 pm EDT July 17, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis father has admitted to violently shaking and critically injuring his 9-month-old son, police said.

Johnny Bishop Jr., 30, was charged Tuesday with two counts of aggravated battery, one count of battery and one count of neglect of a dependent.

Police were called to Z Auto at 1149 E. Troy Ave. on July 11 on a report of a child not breathing, where they found Bishop performing CPR on the baby.

The 9-month-old was taken to Indiana University Health Riley Hospital for Children in critical condition with bleeding on the brain and a possible skull fracture.

Bishop, who works at the car lot, told police he had been bringing his son and his 3-year-old daughter to work with him because his wife is in the hospital and that he was very stressed.

According to the probable cause affidavit, he originally told police that the 9-month-old had fallen out of his car seat, but Bishop later changed his story, admitting that he had shaken the boy twice that day.

"I shook him, like a (expletive)," he said, using a slur for mentally disabled people, according to the probable cause affidavit. "It is my fault. I need to control my stupid temper."

Police said Bishop has a previous conviction for battery on a child involving another infant.

His trial is set for Sept. 17.

Dad who shot and killed 3-year-old son had "violent past" against boy's mother, other women (Grifton, North Carolina)

Nobody ever learns, do they....
Dad CAREY ADAMS had a history of violence against women, including his son's mother. We're told (with striking naivete) that up till now he had never harmed any children. SO?

Actually, just by abusing the mother a batterer is in fact abusing the child. This is the child's caretaker, and if the child witnesses abuse or experiences the stress that the mother is living with, that child is impacted.

Studies have shown over and over again that violent men who have abused the mother are at very high risk of directly hurting the kids as well, even if they haven't (knowingly) hurt the child up until now. Abusers are narcissists. They see people as extensions of themselves. Even if they aren't pissed off at the kid per se, they still see abusing or killing the child as a way to get back at Mom for leaving his sorry @$$, and as a way to reassert his "control" over the situation. That is why abusers ESPECIALLLY ABUSERS WITH HISTORIES OF MURDER/SUICIDE THREATS should NEVER have access to the kids. But the courts still do this all the time. And mothers know if they don't "cooperate" with these terrorists, that the courts will come down on THEM for being "alienating." We've set up a situation where a mother can seldom win.

Toddler Shooting Suspect Had Violent Past

By Jasmine Spencer, Reporter

POSTED: Jul 14 2012 05:04:02 AM EDT UPDATED: 9:13 PM Jul 17 2012

GRIFTON -
The father who deputies say shot and killed his three-year-old son in Grifton Friday had a violent past, according to court records.

Pitt County investigators now say the shooting was motivated by an ongoing domestic dispute between Carey Adams and his estranged wife, the toddler's mother. Her identity has not been released to the public, but investigators say she did take a restraining order out against Adams in the past.

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections website, in 2006, Adams was convicted of Assault With a Deadly Weapon and Felony Breaking and Entering. In 2008, Adams was convicted of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Communicating Threats.

Pitt County Sheriff's investigators said in a news conference Adams had three different domestic violence protective orders filed against him in the past. The different woman files protective orders against Adams in 2001, 2002 and 2010, including the mother of the Jesse Adams, the son deputies say Adams killed.

In all three orders, officials said Adams either threatened or attempted suicide over the phone. In 2001, Adams shot himself in the chest after a domestic argument but survived.

Officials said there is no report of any domestic violence to Adam's children, until the shooting on Friday.

According to deputies, the child's mother called 911 on Friday after receiving a call from Adams, in which Adams said he had just shot the couple's child. Deputies rushed to the scene, and as they walked toward the home, they heard Adams fire the final shot. They say that was the shot with which he killed himself.

Carey Adams initially survived that shooting, but deputies say he died Sunday afternoon at the hospital.

Dad shoots mom to death as part of "custody dispute" (Walnut Park, California)

I wish the media would get this straight. Mom wasn't killed because of an "argument" or a "dispute" over child custody. She was killed because the authorities forced her into contact with a domestic terrorist, JULIO RAMON SOLANO, who was more than happy to use child custody as a way of maintaining contact and control over his victim. Joint custody forces mothers to stay in contact with abuser dads, putting them and the children in harm's way. When are we going to rank the basic safety and security of women and children over father's rights?

Custody Dispute Leads To Fatal Shooting Of Walnut Park Mother

July 15, 2012 11:59 PM WALNUT PARK (CBS) — A Walnut Park man has been arrested in the shooting death of his estranged wife, authorities said Monday. Julio Ramon Solano allegedly shot his wife at a home in the 2800 block of Olive Street at 8 p.m. Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Solano, 34, and his wife were reportedly arguing over custody of their children, ages 6 and 11, when the shooting occurred, officials said.

“I was watching TV and suddenly I heard three gunshots. I went outside and I saw the victim walking towards the white truck and she collapsed,” neighbor Evelyn Tinoco said.

The woman, who was shot in the upper torso, later died at a hospital. Solano reportedly fled the scene following the shooting, but later returned and was arrested by deputies around 3 a.m., officials said.

The children were not harmed in the incident and have been placed with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.

Dad stabs three children to death (Milkwall, England, United Kingdom)

Seems to me that talk of mom's so-called midlife crisis is pretty much irrelevant. SHE'S not the one who murdered three children. It's the FATHER, CERI FULLER, who stabbed them to death. Another example of where fathers are not held fully accountable for their violence, and where blame is diffused in every direction but where it belongs.

Knife recovered from woods where 'father stabbed three children to death'

A knife has today been recovered from the scene where Ceri Fuller is said to have stabbed his three children to death before killing himself as relatives struggled for answers to explain the tragedy.

By Andrew Hough, Hannah Furness and Nick Britten

11:15AM BST 17 Jul 2012

The 35 year-old is thought to have stabbed his 12-year-old son Sam and daughters Rebecca, eight, and Charlotte, seven, before falling to his death from an 80ft cliff in what police described as a “tragic family situation”.

It has been disclosed that Ruth Fuller, his 34 year-old wife and the children's mother, wrote about a "completely bonkers" midlife crisis just the day before.

On Tuesday, as relatives admitted they would "love to know" what provoked the killings, West Mercia Police disclosed that they had recovered a knife, believed to be the murder weapon, at the scene.

It will now be the subject of forensic testing.

Officers continued to search an old quarry and surrounding woodland at Poles Coppice, Pontesbury, near Shrewsbury as the area remained sealed off.

All four bodies of the dead were found at the bottom of trhedisused quarry and may have lain there for days.

Det Ch Insp Neil Jamieson, the officer in charge of the investigation, said today: "I can disclose that a weapon has been recovered from the scene.

"Officers involved in the search found a knife in the vicinity of where the bodies were found. It will now be forensically examined."

Post mortem examinations will be conducted later on Tuesday. Several witnesses have come forward with "helpful information", which detectives will now use to track the vehicle's movements.

The disclosures came as relatives struggled to explain how the tragic circumstances unfolded.

Her brother-in-law Nicholas Ballard told The Daily Telegraph that the family would "love to know" what had happened to provoke Mr Fuller into such actions.

Asked whether the family had any idea what could have had happened, he said: "We'd love to know as well. I don't know yet." He declined to comment on Mrs Fuller's Facebook posts.

The day before the deaths, Mrs Fuller, an artist, wrote that her "midlife crisis" was over with only a "few completely bonkers things done".

At the same time she was seen by neighbours looking anxious and "pacing up and down the road" as if she was waiting for someone.

She wrote on Facebook: "Whew, that's midlife crisis over with then – and only a few completely bonkers things done.

"Still, very glad of the urge to reach out to people, loved that."

Several bouquets of flowers have been left outside the family's home, in which they moved into in June last year, expressing sympathy at the loss.

Crime Scene Investigators attended the the property this morning.

One card read: "To Sam, Rebecca and Charlotte. You will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with your family at this very sad time, love Will x."

Another sad message read: "Sam, Rebecca, Charlotte. Three angels. God bless. Soraya, Aaron, Bithan."

A third tribute left outside the now-empty home said: "Sleep tight little ones. Peter, Janice, Lee and Scott xxx."

Mr Fuller's colleagues said he had not told them of any personal or financial problems.

A spokesman for the company said: “Everyone at Glatfelter CFBU is saddened by the news of the tragic and sudden death of Ceri Fuller and his children.

"The thoughts of all of the people here at Glatfelter Lydney are with Ceri’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

"Glatfelter CFBU is continuing to assist police in any way it can with their ongoing investigation.”

Police have said Mr Fuller’s red Land Rover Freelander had been parked since last Thursday at the entrance to the woodland in Pontesbury, 300 yards from where the discovery was made.

Detectives believe he travelled with the children from the family home in Milkwall, Glos, less than 24 hours before, setting out either earlier that morning or late the previous night.

There were sightings of the vehicle in Leominster and Welshpool during the day, before it was parked at the beauty spot where the bodies were found, known as Poles Coppice.

Ch Insp Jamieson said the four bodies were found “within 30 or 40 yards of each other”.

“We are conducting a murder investigation and at this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident,” he said. “Although the investigation is in its early stages, it appears to be a tragic family situation.”

Detectives have refused to speculate on whether the children were still alive when the car reached the woods. Police are appealing for information about possible sightings of the vehicle and its four occupants on Thursday.

CCTV footage has been seized by police as detectives piece together Fuller's final movements.

Mr Jamieson said: "We believe this vehicle left Gloucestershire at some point last Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning and we are anxious to establish its movements since then, especially in the Pontesbury area.

"We believe it was in the Leominster area at around midday on Thursday before making its way up towards Welshpool later that day."

"I am still urging people to call Shrewsbury police station on 101 or our other number, 0300 333 3000, with any details which could help the investigation."

While police work continues in Shropshire, a team of West Mercia detectives have travelled to Gloucestershire to make further inquiries, including speaking to family members.

"We are working very closely with our colleagues in Gloucestershire to try to establish the full circumstances leading up to this tragedy," Mr Jamieson added.

Mr Fuller was a supervisor at Glatfelter paper mill in Lydney, Glos, where he had worked for 10 years.

He went to university in Huddersfield and Samuel, his first child with his future wife, Ruth Tocknell, was born in the West Yorkshire town.

His daughters Rebecca and Charlotte followed after the couple moved back to the Gloucestershire area where both were originally from, marrying in 2009.

They moved into their semi-detached home in Milkwall, near Coleford in the Forest of Dean, in July 2011.

All three children had gone to St John’s Church of England Primary School. Samuel went on to Lakers School, also in Coleford.

Distraught pupils at their school were due to attend a leavers' ceremony on Tuesday before the end of term on Thursday.

Instead, they attended a 40 minute service at their local church, St John the Evangelist, to remember the children.

A spokeswoman for Gloucester Diocese said: "It was a time to remember the children and to reflect and remember the happy things about them.

"It was so that the children had some time to let go of the terrible anger some of them might have about the tragedy."

Jan Wagstaff, head teacher at St John’s, said Becka and Charlie were “absolutely delightful” and Sam always had a “ready smile”.

She added: "Rebecca and Charlotte were absolutely delightful children and a pleasure to have in school.

"Sam was also a pupil here before he moved on to Lakers. He was a lot of fun and always had a ready smile. They will all be very sadly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family."

A former neighbour of Mr Fuller described him as a “quiet and reserved” man. “We’re in shock,” he said.

Mr Fuller’s mother, Geraldine, 64, and stepfather, Geoffrey Petheram, who live in nearby Blakeney, were too upset to comment. Mrs Fuller’s parents, Anne and Ronald Tocknell, of Lydney, were believed to be with their daughter.

Alison Elliott, head of Lakers School in Coleford, added: "We are desperately sad to hear the family is having to face such a dreadful situation.

"Sam was a well loved member of our extended family here at Lakers. Our thoughts are with the family at this very tragic time.

"We have arrangements in place to support students, staff, friends and family at this very difficult time."

Mr Fuller married his wife Ruth in August 2009 and neighbours said they had lived in a cream pebbledash semi-detached home on Station Road in the village of Milkwall for about a year.

Neighbours said the family "kept themselves to themselves" but spoke of their shock.

Janice Ayres, who lives next door to the Fuller family, said: "Very, very sad, I just cannot say any more.

"I didn't even know her name (mother of children). I have children of my own and I would just be devastated. "I am surprised. They kept themselves to themselves.

"It's so sad for three young children.

"Being out at work all day you don't really know your neighbours. We would speak if we saw each other in the garden but we never socialised together.

"They were no trouble at all. They've lived here about a year and as far I know they bought the house as we knew the man who lived there before and he was selling it.

"It is dreadful really to think about it. It's the way life is these days.

"You just live your own life."

Another neighbour, who did not wish to give their name, added: "They hadn't lived here all that long. They kept themselves to themselves."

Rachel Annis, whose daughter went to the same school as Charlotte, told 5 News: "Charlotte was in my daughter's class at St John's. She was just a beautiful little girl. (They were) such characters.

"Sam would often come round and play with my son and so would Charlotte who was in my daughter's class.

"She just had an angelic face, such a little angel."

Mrs Fuller's father, Ron Tocknell, from Lydney, Gloucestershire, appealed for information when his son-in-law and grandchildren disappeared.

He wrote on his Facebook page: "If anyone who knows Ceri has any idea of his whereabouts, please contact Glos. police immediately. We are all so worried."

Dad murders mom, 5- and 6-year-old sons; dad had extensive history of domestic violence (Louisville, Kentucky)

Police are being pretty mealy-mouthed about it, but it's pretty clear that Dad JOHN DEVISE was the killer. Notice how a triple killer is still treated as a loving father. Puke. These guys may be on an act of being the big loving father, but if they're sociopathic abusers, they're socipathic abusers. In their obsession with slaughtering mom, the babies are just collateral damage, just the cost of doing business.

Father of two boys killed with woman had been convicted of domestic violence

Mother, 2 boys died; man injured in PRP

9:23 PM, Jul 16, 2012

Sadé Goldsmith and her two young sons moved into her Pleasure Ridge Park home a couple of weeks ago, but her sister believes trouble followed her.

“She did the best she could to protect herself, protect her boys,” the sister, Omega Goldsmith, said Monday.

A panic alarm sounded in Sadé Goldsmith’s new home shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday, said Lt. Barry Wilkerson, commander of the Louisville Metro Police Homicide Unit. When police arrived, they found the back door had been broken into and four people inside, all shot, he said.

Dead were Sadé Goldsmith, 26, and her sons, 6-year-old John Devine Jr. and 5-year-old Jon’Tee Devine, according to the coroner’s office.

The boys’ father was injured and taken to University Hospital, Wilkerson said. Police did not release any further information about his condition or his injuries.

Homicide detectives are investigating, but no charges have been filed. Wilkerson said police still have interviews to conduct, including with the father, whom he declined to identify.

Police are also not naming whom they suspect is the shooter.

Omega Goldsmith identified the boys’ father as John Device. She said Devine and Sadé Goldsmith dated off and on for years.

Court and police records show that Devine has been convicted three times on domestic violence charges where Sadé Goldsmith was the victim.

The earliest record is from 2004, when police accused Devine of pushing and striking Goldsmith after they began arguing, according to an arrest report. Devine was sentenced to 100 days in jail, 90 of which were conditionally discharged.

In 2005, Devine was sentenced to 365 days in jail, with all but eight conditionally discharged. And in 2006, Devine was sentenced again to 365 days in jail, with 215 conditionally discharged.

Omega Goldsmith said she believed her sister had taken out protective orders against Devine, but Wilkerson said no “standing” domestic violence order had ever been taken out between Devine and Goldsmith.

Another woman took out a domestic violence order against Devine in 2011 that expired in September that year, according to court records. In a petition for that domestic violence order, the woman accused Devine of grabbing her by the neck and forcing her to have sex with him.

Devine took out a protective order against the same woman in 2011, accusing her of hitting him with a “starch can,” coming at him with a knife and pouring paint onto his car, according to court records.

The most dangerous time in a relationship in which domestic violence is an issue is when the victim separates from the perpetrator, who is seeking power and control over the victim, said Marcia Roth, executive director of the Mary Byron Project, an activist group against domestic violence.

Victims of domestic violence are sometimes reluctant to seek protective orders, and abusers are often angered by them, Roth said.

“It is not always incumbent on the victim to take out a protective order — a protective order can be very powerful, but she may have been scared to death,” she said.

Goldsmith was the sole owner of the home in the 6100 block of Maravian Drive, off Lower Hunters Trace, according to real estate documents from June.

Devine and Sadé Goldsmith had lived together over the course of their relationship, but Omega Goldsmith did not know how long they’d been living apart. A December 2004 arrest report listed both as residents of 817 McCawley Road.

Omega Goldsmith said she didn’t know of any incidents where Devine was violent toward the two boys. To the contrary, she said Devine loved them — and the sentiment was mutual.

“When it was time to visit Daddy,” she said, “it was something special to them.”

Custodial dad, step to have child abuse case go to grand jury (Middletown, Ohio)

SHAWN BLACKSTON is obviously a custodial father, but there is not one word here on how he got custody. Nor is there one word as to what happened to the mother of this child.

Middletown child abuse case to grand jury

Staff Writer

MIDDLETOWN — The father and stepmother of a 12-year-old girl police say was locked in a basement for nearly a month will have their case heard by a Butler County grand jury.

Shawn Blackston, 40, and his wife Joanna Blackston, 36, are charged with first-degree felony kidnapping, third-degree felony child endangering and unlawful restraint, a misdemeanor.

Middletown police Detective Fred Shuemake and Ashley Fritz, a Butler County Children Services intake case worker, testified at a preliminary hearing in Middletown Municipal Court on Monday afternoon that the Blackstons, of 1606 Philadelphia Ave., locked their 12-year-old daughter in the basement from June 18 until July 3 — the day children services removed all six of the couple’s children.

Fritz said after police had talked with Shawn Blackston — Joanna Blackston was not at the house — the decision to remove the children was made, and Shuemake said he was close to pursuing charges on July 3, but wanted to investigate further.

Fritz testified she was told by the girl that she had not been allowed to eat as much as the other children.

The day before the girl was freed from the basement, she said the girl had a bowl of cereal and a slice of pizza. The day she was freed — the afternoon of July 3 — she had only eaten a bowl of cereal five hours earlier.

Dad arrested for abusing 4- and 6-year-old sons (Paulden, Arizona)

Dad is identified as JACCOB BILLITER. Was there a mother in this home? It sure doesn't sound like it. As for hanging a child upside down and whipping him, wouldn't this be considered torture?

PAULDEN, AZ (CBS5) - A Paulden man was arrested on two counts of child abuse after his two boys, ages 4 and 6, were found with head injuries and welts, authorities said.

Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said Jaccob Billiter, 34, abused and injured both of his sons. Billiter hung his 6-year-old upside down and whipped him with a hose after he drank from their irrigation system, said YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn. Deputies reportedly found welts on his back from punishment. The head injury was apparently caused when the boy was dropped head first on the ground, D'Evelyn said.

The younger boy also had visible injury to his forehead, D'Evelyn said.

Neighbors told deputies Billiter ran from the scene when deputies arrived, but Billiter was later arrested and booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center.

YCSO said Billiter was charged with two counts of child abuse, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and neglect or abuse to a minor.

The children were transported to the hospital for treatment and remain in protective custody.

Children suing father for murder of mother (Alameda County, California)

The convicted killer dad is HANS REISER.

Children suing father for death of mother

By: Bay City News | 07/11/12 5:53 PM

Hans Reiser is being charged with a wrongful death lawsuit over the 2006 murder of his wife. A lawyer for the son and daughter of convicted killer Hans Reiser told jurors in his civil trial Wednesday that the children should be compensated for the murder of their mother.

Arturo Gonzalez, who represents 12-year-old Rory and 11-year-old Niorline Reiser in their wrongful death lawsuit, said in his opening statement that the value of a mother-child relationship is “priceless.”

Gonzalez said Hans Reiser claims that he is now indigent but said he doesn’t know if that is true. The lawyer said Reiser, a computer engineer who once owned a small software company, may have money and could possibly develop valuable software while in prison.

Reiser, 48, is serving 15 years to life in state prison for killing his wife, 31-year-old Nina Reiser, at his home in the Oakland hills Sept. 3, 2006.

She remained missing until 2008, when Hans Reiser led them to a spot near his home where he had buried her.

Nina Reiser’s close friend Ellen Doren testified Wednesday how Nina was an involved parent, volunteering at the children’s schools, reading to them, cooking for them and taking them to doctor’s appointments.

Doren said that before Nina’s death, the children were “very outgoing, social and happy.” After Nina’s disappearance, the children were placed with a foster family. “The kids looked awful,” she said, noting that Niorline had been chewing on her hair and looked nervous.

Alameda County Superior Court Judge Dennis Hayashi told jurors that they should focus narrowly on what damages, if any, should be awarded to the children.

Reiser, who is acting as his own attorney, didn’t address the issue of damages in his opening statement and instead attacked Nina Reiser’s character.

Dad on trial for murder of daughter (Edwardsville, Illinois)

Edwardsville man on trial in shaken-baby case

Jul 11, 2012 12:20pm

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois man faces up to 60 years in prison if he is convicted of murder in the death of his daughter, who prosecutors say lived roughly a decade after being shaken so severely by her father that she lost most of her brain function.

Torrance "Tyrone" Rogers, 31, of Edwardsville, already spent roughly seven years in prison on a felony attempted aggravated battery charge related to the injuries he inflicted on infant Taylor Rogers in 1999 after she wouldn't stop crying. Left nearly blind in that attack and requiring around-the-clock care, the girl eventually died of bronchial pneumonia in 2009 at the age of 9.

Rogers, who pleaded guilty to the lesser count in 2001 and was paroled from a 15-year sentence in 2007, went on trial Tuesday in Madison County on a first-degree murder charge related to the girl's death.
A prosecutor said that based on previous Illinois court rulings, it isn't a violation of Rogers' constitutional right against double jeopardy to try him for murder after he's been convicted of a lesser crime.

Circuit Judge Richard Tognarelli, who heard the case after Rogers waived his right to a jury trial, is deliberating the verdict.

Susan Jensen, a prosecutor, told the judge that Rogers admitted in the earlier case that he shook Taylor. Jensen also cited medical records, autopsy findings and determinations by the St. Louis medical examiner's office in saying Taylor's death was a homicide.

"The reason Taylor died was the injury she received at the hands of (Rogers)," Jensen said. "(Doctors) were surprised that she lived as long as she did."

Rogers' attorney, Lyndon Evanko, countered that an otherwise healthy child could have died of bronchial pneumonia as Taylor did, noting that a Cook County medical examiner who reviewed the girl's records at the defense's request questioned whether the child suffered shaken-baby syndrome.

"We still don't know exactly what happened to the child in 1999," Evanko said. "I see no way Mr. Rogers can be held accountable."

Evanko urged Tognarelli to acquit Rogers or find him guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

Dad murders 3-year-old son; given that mom had previously taken out restraining orders, why did dad have child access? (Greenville, North Carolina)

The very definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and hoping for different results. Why did a dad like CAREY ADAMS JR. have access to his young son? Was it court-ordered? Was Mom bullied into it? What?

Because it is clearly a disaster for guys like this to be around young children, especially when they have violent criminal records, a history of domestic violence, and a lot of "punish/control" issues when it comes to the mother of the children And we see over and over again that mothers and children are at particular risk when the mother finally leaves the abuser, as this mother had done.

And yet the freaking media frames this as a "domestic dispute" as if the problem were one of mutual antogonism (when there is NO evidence presented here that Mom was also engaging in tit-for-tat threats and acts of violence). We don't have a "domestic dispute" here. We have a father who was an intimate terrorist. The mother had filed for multiple restraining orders, and yet, somehow, dad still had some sort of access or visitation rights AT MINIMUM. Who allowed this? Let's have names.

Because this is insane. No child access for batterers and abusers. Period. It's the only way to stop the murders of these kids.

And yet we still have the bleating idiot brigade. "Happy family" blah blah blah. And we're just "shocked" blah blah blah. "Seemed like a good dad" blah blah blah. Why can't people ever admit that they just didn't know jacksh** about what was going on behind closed doors? And that appearances are meaningless?

Update: Family making funeral arrangements for toddler shot by father

By: WNCT Staff | WNCT

Published: July 13, 2012 Updated: July 16, 2012 - 11:56 AM

GREENVILLE, N.C. - Family members say they're making funeral arrangements for Jesse Adams, the 3-year-old boy shot by his father.

Pitt County deputies say Jesse's father, 34-year-old Carey Adams Jr., shot the toddler and then turned the gun on himself just after 10 o'clock Friday night in Grifton.

Carey Adams underwent surgery at Vidant Medical Center Sunday and later died.

Deputies say the situation escalated from an ongoing domestic dispute with the boy's mother. They say Adams called her right before, and told her he was going to shoot his son. She called 9-1-1 but by the time deputies arrived, Adams had already fired the shots. Jesse died at Vidant Medical Center.

Neighbors 9 On Your Side talked with say they're shocked and saddened by what happened.

"Looks like a happy family. You know, I didn't see anything that would tell otherwise," said Trace Yarbrough, neighbor.

"I didn't sleep much knowing that a kid is involved like that, an innocent child. So, I can't fathom it to be right honest," said Ben Gaskins, neighbor.

Deputies say the investigation is ongoing.

No official date has been set for Jesse's funeral, but his mother says she wants to set up a fundraiser to help cover the funeral costs.

GRIFTON, N.C. – The father who shot and killed his 3-year-old son has died Sunday.

Deputies are investigating the shooting that happened at 1072 Wiley Gaskins Road in Grifton Friday just after 10 p.m.

First responders took 3-year-old Jesse Adams to Vidant Medical Center where he later died. His father, 34-year-old Carey Adams Jr., also known as C.J., turned the gun on himself after shooting his son.

Deputies tell us Carey Adams, Jr. underwent surgery to remove his organs and died Sunday.

9 On Your Side talked with neighbors who say they're shocked and upset by what happened.

Ben Gaskins says he couldn't believe it.

"It looked like New York City out here. It was fire trucks, police cars, people still coming and then all of a sudden you hear a helicopter."

"It’s just very sad what we've had to witness,” Pitt County Sheriff Neil Elks says. “Several of our officers are very emotionally upset. I had to send two of them home tonight from what they saw."

Neighbors say they're shocked to hear Adams could be capable of killing his own son. They say from an outsider's perspective, he seemed like a good dad who could often be seen playing with his son in their front yard.

"They had bought him a little John Deere gator and he would be riding the gator behind his dad,” Gaskins says. “Just like any kid just playing and having a good time." "Looks like a happy family,” Trace Yarbrough, another neighbor, says. “You know, I didn't see anything that would tell otherwise."

But 9 On Your Side dug deeper and found Adams’ extensive criminal record, including assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, DWI, breaking and entering and communicating threats.

Sheriff Elks says Adams called the child's mother before the shooting. He says the separated couple had an ongoing domestic dispute and the mother has filed a restraining order against Adams.

But like so many others, Gaskins says he's still trying to make sense of what happened.

"I didn't sleep much knowing that a kid is involved like that, an innocent child,” he says. “So, I can't fathom it to be right honest."

Adams’ family members who live nearby declined to talk with us and we were unable to reach the child's mother.

We will continue to follow this investigation as it unfolds, so please check back for the latest information.

GRIFTON, N.C. - Deputies have now released the name of the man they say shot and killed his son before turning the gun on himself.

34-Year-old Carey Adams, Jr., who goes by C.J., was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center late Friday night. At last report, he's in critical condition.

The shooting happened at 1072 Wiley Gaskins Road in Pitt County. The road was shut down while East Care responded to the incident.

Sheriff Neil Elks says Adams also shot his 3-year-old son, Jesse. The boy was also taken to Vidant Medical Center where he later died.

Elks was at the emergency room at Vidant Medical Center with the family.

He says the incident revolves around an ongoing domestic dispute between Adams and the boy's mother. The couple has been separated four months and Elks says the mother took out a restraining order against him in previous years.

Drunk dad charged with child abuse; where is the mother? (Memphis, Tennessee)

Dad Charged With Child Abuse

Posted on: 1:11 pm, July 12, 2012, by Melissa Moon, updated on: 06:14pm, July 12, 2012

(Memphis) A father is locked up for drinking and driving with his kids in the car.

Thirty year old Stephen Jones was arrested Wednesday night after he ran a stop sign  at Kimbell and Prescott in Orange Mound.

Officers say he smelled of alcohol and had blood shot eyes.

Worst of all, there were three children between two and four strapped in the backseat.

“That’s not good. That’s not good. People don’t need to be driving with their kids in the car when they know they have been drinking,” said Patricia Woodall.

Patricia Woodall lives at the corner of Kimbell and Prescott.

She didn’t see Jones get arrested, but has seen some serious accidents at the busy intersection.
She says he got lucky and never should have put his kids in harm’s way.

“Anything can happen. Anything and right about now we don’t need kids dying like this,” said Woodall.

Police say Jones admitted to drinking beer before he got behind the wheel and had a blood alcohol content of .039.

Jones was also driving without a license.

It was suspended back in November.

Jones has been charged with child abuse and neglect.

The kids were turned over to their grandmother.

Dad wanted on rape and kidnapping charges a suspect in "suspicious" drowning death of 4-year-old son; where is the mother? (Reynoldsburg, Ohio)

Where to even start with this mess. Dad ALFRED E. HILL is apparently suspected in the "suspicious" drowning death of his 4-year-old son. Police investigators then find out that Daddy is already wanted on "unrelated" kidnapping and rape charges from the previous year. Then, in a rather confusing way, it is revealed that this father does NOT live with the mother of this child, but has been staying one step ahead of the law by "staying with various girlfriends." Or living with his sisters and a younger brother. Whatever.

SO WHERE IS THE MOTHER? The reporter didn't even bother to find out. Did Daddy have full custody? Joint custody? Visitation? Was it Mom's idea that a father bopping around from house to house, trying to dodge the cops on a rape and kidnapping charge, should have the care of a pre-Kindergartener? Or was this some nitwit judge's idea of quality fathering?

But never fear! The idiots are here! A moronic neighbor tells us that Hill was a "family oriented" guy! Yes he was! Suspected rapists on the lam are the very best of fathers, don't you know!

This is how low we have set the bar these days for good fathers....Horrifying.

Police investigating child's death arrest dad on year-old rape charges

By Jim Woods The Columbus Dispatch Thursday July 12, 2012 11:07 PM

Police who went to a Reynoldsburg home this morning to investigate the death of a 4-year-old boy ended up arresting his father, after they found he was wanted on unrelated kidnapping and rape charges from a year ago.

Alfred A. Hill, 26, was in the Franklin County jail tonight after police found him near the apartment he shared with three siblings.

The incident began about 9:30 a.m., when Truro Township firefighters were called to 1229 Baytree Court on the report of a child not breathing.

There they found Hill’s son, Alfred Hill, 4, not breathing, said Reynoldsburg acting police chief Jim O’Neill.

The boy was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where he later died. An autopsy will be performed on Friday, said Franklin County Coroner Jan Gorniak.

Police are calling the death suspicious.

Family members at the apartment told police that Alfred had been in the bathtub and might have choked or drowned. It was unclear tonight who had called 911 and whether the boy was found in the tub.

When police detectives investigating the death returned to the apartment around 1:30 p.m., they had found out that the child’s father was wanted by Columbus police on rape and kidnapping charges from a 2011 incident.

Police searched the Eden at Reynoldsburg apartment complex for about 10 minutes. A maintenance worker alerted police to Hill in a courtyard area.

Columbus police SWAT officers and U.S. marshals had been looking for Hill for months, said Columbus police Sgt. Terry McConnell. A warrant was filed on July 7, 2011, accusing Hill of kidnapping a 19-year-old woman from her Oakwood Avenue house on the South Side during the early morning hours of July 6, 2011. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Hill forced her to have sex, court records say.

McConnell said that during the past year, Hill had managed to stay one step ahead of law-enforcement officers by staying with different girlfriends. Kevin Veal, 28, said Hill had been living next door for the past couple of months with two of his sisters, a younger brother and about four children.

Veal said the Hill he knew was a “family oriented” guy.

Veal said he knew that something was wrong quickly this morning when he said hello to one of Hill’s sisters.

“I seen a look on her face that I’ve never seen before,” he said. Moments later, paramedics arrived.

Dispatch reporters Lydia Coutre and Allison Manning contributed to this report.

Search term 'father hates infant' found on computer of Metzger dad charged in baby's death

Published: Saturday, July 14, 2012, 9:20 PM Updated: Saturday, July 14, 2012, 10:20 PM

By Emily E. Smith, The Oregonian

Evidence in the case of a Metzger man accused of killing his 11-week-old son shows that Internet searches on his computer centered on child abuse for weeks leading up to the baby's death.

Court records show the Internet history on Kaliq Mansor's computer in the two months before the death included searches and web hits such as "father hates infant" and "How do I stop abusing my baby," as well as a downloaded video game that involves abusing children.

Mansor's defense attorney is asking a Washington County judge to suppress the evidence on the grounds of unconstitutional search and seizure.

Mansor, 34, was arrested days after the June 13, 2011, death of his twin son, Bryan. He remains jailed on 10 counts including murder by abuse, first-degree assault and first-degree criminal mistreatment in the baby's death. He is also charged with assaulting Bryan's twin brother. He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Mansor called 9-1-1 on the afternoon of June 12 last year, reporting that Bryan wasn't breathing. Mansor told police he was feeding Bryan a mixture of baby formula and "liquid baby vitamins" that turned the formula brown, according to court records. He reportedly said that Bryan started coughing and expelling a brown liquid from his nose, so he turned the baby over, shook him and smacked him on the back.

Bryan's eyes appeared "fixed" and "droopy" and his breathing became "very much labored," Mansor told the detective. While the baby took a breath once every minute or two, Mansor went online to research "what he should do," according to records. After 15 minutes passed, the baby's condition wasn't improving, and Mansor dialed 9-1-1.

Detectives served a search warrant and seized four computers, among other items, from Mansor's home that night. They sent the computers for examination to the Northwest Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory, according to court records. Forensic examiners noted specific Internet activity during the time Mansor said he was online prior to calling 9-1-1.

At 2:08 p.m., the report says, Mansor searched for "11 week old baby pulse no breathing."

At 2:14 p.m., he searched "baby not breathing strong pulse."

And seconds later, "when to call 911." He called 9-1-1 at 2:20 p.m., according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency responders took Bryan to the hospital, where doctors told police Bryan was brain dead. Bryan was diagnosed with shaken baby syndrome, according to court records.

Detectives also asked the lab to investigate Internet use related to child abuse, without a time frame. The forensics report shows that between April 19 and June 9, 2011, the computers' Internet history includes many searches and visits to web pages related to child abuse.

According to the report, information was accessed on state child abuse law, "newborn abuse," infant injuries, shaken baby syndrome and therapy for abusers, among other related information. The report cites specific searches and web hits, including "father hates infant," "How do I stop abusing my baby," and "Parents of Newborn Baby Accused of Horrific Abuse."

The lab also found a game called "Candyvan" had been downloaded on one of the computers. According to the report, the game is a "simple DOS-based program where the protagonist drives around in a van/bus/ice-cream truck, picks up 10 children, and abuses them (physically and/or sexually) while trying to avoid attention and the police." Certain player actions correspond in the game to words such as, "You throw the kid to the ground and kick until there's a pool of blood on the floor."

The report shows the game was saved to a download folder with the username "kaliq" and played.

Defense attorney Russell Barnett has filed a motion to suppress the evidence, arguing that the search of Mansor's computers was unconstitutional. The motion says the lack of specificity in the search warrant yielded a broad, exploratory search that invaded Mansor's privacy. Barnett argues police lacked probable cause for delving into so much of Mansor's personal digital information.

"The warrant issued here authorized a general rummaging into a very large area of defendant's private things (and perhaps those belonging to his wife) and resulted in an invasion of privacy interests that was not intended by the magistrate," the motion says.

Citing state and federal constitutional rights, the defense asks the court to suppress any evidence the search produced. "

The taint of the general warrant poisoned all evidence in its wake, requiring all subsequently obtained information, including forensic examinations completed by authorities, to be suppressed," the motion says.

Judge Donald Letourneau is scheduled to hear motions in the case Aug. 10.

By Erin Udell - The Denver Post

Marquis Garrison, 30, was charged today with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death after his baby daughter died from injuries officials say Garrison caused last month.

On June 25, Garrison allegedly shook the two-month-old and threw her on the ground when her fussing and crying frustrated him, according to news release from the Denver District Attorney's office.

He was originally charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, but those charges were dismissed once the baby died earlier this week.

Garrison is in custody at the Denver Detention Center where he is being held without bond. His next scheduled court date is July 17, 2012.
